Personally, I think they have to see it through until they have come to the conclusion that he is not a franchise QB.
-
They have work to do, no doubt about it.
-
I think a lot depends on who New England’s QB will be next year. I think they go after one of the better available QB’s in the off-season and if they get let’s say a Matthew Stafford or Matt Ryan then I think they are the main challenger in the division.
-
Not really. They are strong against the run and have been very weak against the pass over the last half of the season. They also give up a lot of pass plays and have no good man to man corners. I would expect a lot of zone defense from them. As long as we can not allow Buckner to disrupt things sort of like Cam Hayward did in the first half of the Pittsburgh we should be able to carve them up.

Round 1 Playoff: Colts at Bills - Sat. 1/9 1:05pm
Magox replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He said that they identified weaknesses of Josh in the offseason through the technology they were using that they haven't even began to address and this offseason they plan on working on what they found. That's exciting and scary. -
As they should be. He's only been an NFL QB for one year, they invested all this capital and they should surround him with talent. He's got enough tools to be a decent NFL starter if they play their cards right.
-
Yes they have, but there are some tough decisions coming up such as Daryl Williams and Milano. These guys will most likely command over $10M a year.

What is the second-most important position on a football team?

I say CB. The most potent weapon on offense aside from the QB are the WR's and if you can essentially shut down the top weapon then it opens up a lot of things that the defense can do. -
GMFB-Brandon Beane wins Executive GM of the year
Magox replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks for finding this. You can see some of the posters who like to fancy themselves as experts really show that they truly know football much less than they like to pretend they know football. I battled these clowns for years on this board and they had this undying belief that Beane screwed things up by dismantling the previous regime's team in order to build the team they saw fit and that McDermott was Jauron part deux. Remember that? Beane and McDermott as I said then had every right to build the franchise as he envisioned. This was their chance at building a franchise and just like Sinatra They were going to do it their way. They cut bait with Watkins, Dareus, Legendary JAG Jonathan Williams, Darby and others and these guys cried every step of the way. They were certain to attempt to remind everyone on this board anytime any of those players had good plays that it was the wrong decision. History has shown that the McBeane made the correct decisions and not one person can come close to attempting to justify that any of those players were worth the value that they got on the open market with the possible exception of Darby. But even Darby, these guys know how to find capable DB's that fit the system and play at a high level. And remember when some posters used to call McDermott - Jauron? That he was a "conservative" coach? I argued it's not that he is a conservative coach it's that you have to justify your play calling based off the team and trust with the players you have at that moment. Of course you are going to be more conservative with your play calling if you have less talent on that side of the ball. As the talent improved, guess what happened? The play calling and boldness opened up along with the tolerance for risk. For crying out loud, we did a fake punt in NE, in prime time, early in the game. Yeah, those posters were wrong, McDermott isn't conservative, he just makes decisions that are appropriate for the team he has to play with, whatever that may be. I was a big fan of Beane right from the beginning. I can't find that article for anything but it was one that was written about him as soon as he was hired. It was a detailed piece on him on how methodical his decision making process is and after I read that piece I was convinced that this is the SORT OF GM that we needed. Wasn't a guarantee that it would work out because at the end of the day he needed to be able to evaluate talent and make the appropriate decisions with those evaluations. He also has done a phenomenal job in surrounding himself with great talent evaluators which shows you how sure he is of himself, guys that could be called on to take his job if he faltered. He in my book is the best GM in the league, he showed it in year one and he continues to do so to this very day. I am thankful that he and McDermott have built this culture of success. They get Buffalo and they get football. -
Dion Dawkins: A Letter to Bills Mafia, Part II
Magox replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm truly grateful for everything the Bills have done for us this year. That was an amazing blog post by Dawkins, the guy is clearly very intelligent not just intellectually but emotively as well. I loved every part of that blog and his description of Diggs and Allen were both spot on. That's the description I gave to my dad the other day about Josh that the game has slowed down for him that it's like he's NEO now in the Matrix, dodging bullets. That's exactly what I said to my brother and dad. Also how that Josh is learning things so quickly in real time. You can literally see him processing and improving DURING the game. I just love this team. -
I just don't see the Bills making any significant FA moves this year. Priority one is managing the cap for the eventual huge cap hit of Josh Allen and re signing the most critical players to the success of this team, along with having continued success through the draft.

I remember warming up to Josh Allen the week leading up to the draft even though I really wanted Baker followed by Rosen. The more I kept seeing video of Allen the more I realized that the analysis that he was inaccurate was off. A lot of it was the sort of vertical low % plays they ran and his bad mechanics. Watching him on those broken extended plays and rollouts I thought “man, this guy can make plays that very few others can on this planet”. His rookie year with the Bills he wasn’t ready to be a drop back passer. But what jumped out was his competitiveness and athleticism. The guy had a burning desire to make plays. I knew after that Dolphins game which I happened to go to in Miami that we had found our franchise QB. The swag he brought to the team was exhilarating and he improved his processing of the game as the season wore down improving his passing numbers. Then he worked his ass off in the off season and improved his mechanics. He showed steady progression through the year and my belief was that we had a very gifted player albeit still raw who is ultra competitive, very intelligent and that is committed to being the best player he could be. That combination gave me a lot of confidence that he would continue to ascend and watching him with all those comeback wins, high 4th quarter QB rating was just another data point that affirmed my belief that he was going to be something special during his 2nd year. I knew he would come out strong this year and believed he was going to be borderline pro bowl level but never did I think he would come out this good this soon. He is just seeing everything right now and if defenses confuse him early on he has shown the mental ability to diagnose what the defense is doing after a few series to then just torch them later on, like what we just saw in Miami and Pittsburgh. How many times have we seen an opposing defense just suffocate our offense and the game turn around in an instant? Not often. The guy is like an AI learning machine. An equation he hasn’t seen early on may confound him but after a few series he diagnoses the problem and learns from it, in game. That’s next level QB’ing and there are only about 5-8 guys who can do that. He is only going on to get better, the OC will give him more leeway to have more input in game planning and changing calls at the line and he will just dominate the mental aspect of this game like what he is doing now. I think the Bills like Favre said will dominate the AFC East for the next decade.

One of many good moves. Trading away Marcel and Watkins were very unpopular with some of the fan base and now it’s indisputable that they were the right moves. Same with Phillips and Shaq, even though they produced and were fan favorites they weren’t worth what some in the open market were willing to pay. Now we gotta see what they do with Milano. Personally I’d love to see them sign him to another deal, just not sure they will do it. We have an OT that we need to sign and that probably ends up more of a priority.

The pump on the TD to Brown was critical for Brown to get open. But it wasn't just the pump, if you see when he did fake the with the shoulder pump it temporarily froze the DB which was all Brown needed but then Allen looks to the other side of the field and then comes back and lays a dime. Absolutely next level QB play.

Round 1 Playoff: Colts at Bills - Sat. 1/9 1:05pm
Magox replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm just watching this and basking in it all, soaking it all up. What a pleasure it has been to be a Bills fan this year. Rome made the point that the Bills aren't just happy to be in the playoffs and it ends with Edmunds telling Rome that they are looking to win it all. -
I don't think they will just arbitrarily sit him out for the sake of healing for the following week. I think they will do what they can to get him out on the field but if they don't believe he is the best option then he'll sit. With that said, the Bills are deep at WR and and most likely can manage just fine without him against the Colts. Having Brown back and him looking sharp really helps a good bit.
-
A, it's not a rush and B, it's not to change things. Stills in their view represents an opportunity to improve the team. That may not necessarily mean for the playoffs, it could be a move for the long-term. Either way, Beane has earned the right to make these personnel decisions especially considering that comparatively speaking since he's taken over, he's been one of the best.

[Misleading Title] Antonio W. Harkens FredEX
Magox replied to DeltaDigital's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Once he planted his food the acceleration to score was pretty impressive. He just seemed to have a lot of pop to his runs yesterday. -
Ken Dorsey or Chad Hall. I wouldn't be surprised if either of the two get promoted to OC. I would be surprised if the Bills went outside of the organization to fill the role.

The Bills are a juggernaut. There is no team in the NFL that is playing as well as the Bills. The Ravens are playing really well but their quality of opponents haven’t been as tough as the Bills and Buffalo’s offense is tougher to stop than Baltimore’s. I think these are the two hottest teams in the NFL.

Can we trust Josh Norman in a playoff game?
Magox replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He played a savvy game today. That bump he had as the WR was breaking that led him to fall and get the pick six and the 4th down play where he sat on the sticks and got the pass breakup were sublime. oh and the 4th down PI in the end zone was Chinsy. He brings a lot of swag to the D and I’m glad he’s part of the crew. -
I love Jim Kelly but he was never this good.
