Revisiting Beane's most subtly brilliant move as GM
Magox replied to cage's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dont think there has been a poster on this site who has gotten it so wrong over the past 10 years. Allen is the antithesis of Tyrod, Tyrod protected the ball very well but could not move the team down the field and more importantly could not consistently score to put us ahead in the 4th quarter. Allen is prone to turnovers because of some of his decisions but is able to move the chains much more effectively and can lead the team to 4th quarter scores for victories. You are so invested in Allen not being the guy, I mean for crying out loud you compared him to EJ Manuel that they are of equal talent. It's too bad Biscuit, you were the biggest homer when the team sucked for so long and now when they actually have a good organization and team and a true legit franchise QB you have become one of the serial negative nancies. To each his own. -
Jordon Phillips - UFA - He wants to be a Bill. - He's a keeper Spencer Long - Club Option - Good depth - keep him if you can Lorenzo Alexander - UFA - He will sign a one year deal. Kevin Johnson - UFA - If he can be had on the cheap Shaq Lawson - UFA - If you can get him to agree to a below $7M a year contract Quinten Spain - UFA - Depends on the offseason. My guess is that maybe Ford can move to his spot if they like the way Ford plays this year Frank Gore - UFA - Depends on how he finishes the year - if he finishes the way he has played then another one year deal seems great LaAdrian Waddle - UFA - Meh Julian Stanford - UFA - Meh Maurice Alexander - UFA - Keeper Kurt Coleman - UFA - Could be decent depth Dean Marlow - RFA - Could be decent depth Isaiah McKenzie - RFA - Keeper Jason Croom - EFRA - Let him walk Levi Wallace - EFRA - Big time keeper Robert Foster - EFRA - Keeper

Status of AFC: Should Bills Go All In For 2019?
Magox replied to jwhit34's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wholeheartedly agree with this. I have been saying for quite some time, unless the Bills completely fall apart and lose the locker room which I find highly implausible, no matter what the Bills performance this year or for that matter the next, they aren't going anywhere. It's clear as day that they have a much better well-thought out construct of an organization than we've had in decades. For those Whaley defenders who think that Whaley was nearly as good or better than Beane are wholly delusional and clearly have little to no feel of what a true proper organization look like. This is what it looks like, methodical, structured, process oriented with lots of high end talent surrounding them. The sheer number of guys that are GM candidates is a very telling sign and this organization has a lot of guys in the front office that will be receiving promotions. -
I don't think $7m a year nowadays is big bucks for a DE.

I like Shaq, but Murphy has been a tad bit better.

Status of AFC: Should Bills Go All In For 2019?

Beane has shown that he is not afraid to roll the dice. He's had some moves that have worked and others not so much, thankfully the good have been more plentiful than the bad. The moves they make should be made all within the construct of what they believe fits in their mid to long-term views. Beane will look at all positions, even the positions that we believe are rock solid because they are constantly looking to upgrade every roster spot, even if that means for higher quality depth. The Bates trade is a perfect example of that, this was an under the radar trade that helped contribute to the victory vs. the Titans. But if we are talking about splashy sort of moves, the areas of most need are: D - Lineman - Pass rushing specialist Offensive tackle - At this stage I am not convinced Ford is a tackle and is better suited as a guard. Nseke is pretty good but he's getting up there in age. Wide Receiver - If Foster can regain his form and Duke Williams can continue his ascent then we may be set at the WR spot. But those are two big IF's that won't be fully answered for at least another month or two. -
If you can get Shaq Lawson to agree to a similar contract to what Trent Murphy agreed to which is around the $7M a year range, I think you look at other options. With that said, I'd really like to have him back. He certainly is an overall productive D Lineman.

The point is to put the Titans game in the rear view mirror and move forward.

Ok, they had their fun. Now it's time for Phillips and Lawson to let it go and move on to Dolphins game film.

Bates played extremely well in the preseason and was being lauded for the way he was practicing. The guy is extremely versatile which is something that Bills brass values and has a shot at eventually starting somewhere on the line. -
How do you tweak this roster for week 7 and beyond?
Magox replied to MtlBillsFan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This Yeldon hate on the board is strange. Aside from that fumble he has been a productive overall back. -
Duke Williams for making key plays Offensive line, despite all the injuries that closed out the game. Jordan Phillips was an absolute beast Daboll with really good playcalling against a very good defense McDermott for keeping the troops motivated. No matter the adversity this team never gives up and rarely gets flustered. Allen, hell of a game despite that horrible mistake. Super accurate and made clutch throws. Way to rebound after such a bad game and a concussion. Allen gets the game ball.

Marcel Dareus cited for weed possession in Florida

That is what you are saying, Nedboy. What's my legacy? A legacy to hand down to my loved ones knowing that they will be taken care of financially when I pass, but that isn't nearly as important as other things. Such as a legacy of respect among my peers, friends and family. Passing down qualities such as respect, trust, love and dependability to my kids who will hopefully pass that down to theirs. Leading by example and practicing what I preach and sharing my values to the ones I love. I can't think of anything more important in one's life than having a positive impacting legacy. Legacy isn't just about leaving material wealth it's about the qualities you share with the ones who have surrounded you throughout your life. -

So you're saying that he should be all about the money and not give a flying flip about anything else? Because if he doesn't give a crap because he's made a lot of money as you were saying, then that would be that he is all about. While money is nice there are more things that are important in life as well, such as his responsibility to the organization that is paying you and to your coaches and teammates that you would hope have friendships. But I think what's more important than it all is the legacy you leave behind. -

He's not that sort of a "bust" but he certainly was a bust for us after he signed big contract. -

Man, I seem to remember a whole bunch of people on this board who said the Bills made a bad decision getting rid of him for a 5th rounder. Pretty sure @ScottLaw was one of them, but you aren't the only one, there were tons more. Just like many of the decisions that Beane made that many on this board had problems, Beane has shown to be correct. -

Jim Kubiak Analysis of Allen against Pats
Magox replied to Casey D's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Allen took a beating and lost some of the goodwill he had earned so far up to this year but he will be fine. He's a gamer, he's intelligent and he'll learn from it. With that said, the game is moving very fast for him mentally when blitzed and he's got to learn to calm himself and make better pre snap reads and trust what he sees. Right now when blitzed everything is moving a million miles per hour for him and he isn't seeing anything, even when something is there. He'll overcome it but it is a significant hurdle for him to overcome and expect to continue to see defenses throw the kitchen sink at him until he does. -
Tom Brady looks and sounds “checked out” to me
Magox replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's not the way I read that at all. He is the 100% opposite of what you are describing. He takes every single performance personally and this to me is the sound of a man who is used to having his way and he is absolutely frustrated that he is not able to perform well against the Bills. He's happy they won but he's struggling to internalize his struggles with the McD's defense and he wants to figure it out. He is a control freak and the dude is really having a hard time with why he can't get it going and why the Bills defense is giving him such a hard time. -
Great defensive coaching today. Should have kicked the field goal though. This was a totally winnable game that slipped through our fingers due to bad QB and special teams play.

Ah but this is the "house is on fire approach" Stage one: overreact to the slightest bit of bad news Stage two: posters mock the overreacting ninny's Stage three: overreactive ninny's rehash the glory days of Sammy Stage four: Posters bring up the facts of why player personnel moves were made and despite the facts, the ninny's are still unable to comprehend the larger picture and what McD/Beane's vision of a team looks like despite the clear upward trajectory of the franchise Stage five: Same ninny's despite being wrong on numerous occasions of the moves they questioned the Bills making still complain Stage six: Harumphhh!!
