He plays the penetrating style of defense the Bills want. He sacks Drake Maye and Shaduer in the video and stops Maye on Qb sneak. Who knows?
-
Yep. I think that is the ball park. And with the 3rd year of the extension being a pretty comfortable out for the Bills. Maybe around $5-6m dead cap ideally... but definitely no more than $8m. So it might be $15m AAV as the shiny number for the agent. $12.5m AAV as the number for cap purposes and then about $11.75m AAV if the final year of that extension is one he isn't really likely to play on because it has a big cap # but most of that is non-guaranteed base salary (you'd either extend and lower the hit if he is still good or cut bait if he isn't..). Davis can't easily replace James Cook anywhere.

Malaki Starks wants to pick off Josh Allen most

So a rookie DB wants to intercept the league MVP? Am I supposed to have feelings about this? -
That would be cool. He has huge hurdles to overcome and make the roster but a 6’5” guy running a 4.46 is a good start. Prob stash him on the PS and see how he develops I liked his measurables a ton going into the draft. I thought his strengths matched our D style perfectly and thought he was a late 3rd:early 4th value. Pure guess but I think he makes Dane Jackson a cut.

Most guys that hold out have a legitimate claim for their ask, he doesn’t have any reasonable claim to be a top 2-3 paid back in the league. If he wants to hang the team out to dry, while the guy they drafted to replace him takes his reps, that’s his option, just don’t be surprised when it blows up in his face and he hits the market with 600 yards and 6 TDs. Davis can easily replace him at the goal line, his td total can be halved in a hurry.

I mean this piques my interest some.

Bills 4th Round Pick : Deone Walker - DT - Kentucky

Beane and McDermott seem to Disagree with you - they’re not always right but I’ll trust them -
Yep. If he turns up the final week of camp he probably doesn't start week 1 or even week 2. But that isn't about being in the doghouse it is about being in proper game shape. They'd ramp him up and week 3 or 4 he'd be back to the starting job. But as long as he is here most or all of camp James Cook will be the starter. No question. He is just a different talent level altogether than the other guys.

I have no problems with any of this... over hyped bs.. OF COURSE HE WANTS TO PICK THE MVP.. jeeze guys come on lol -
Don't know if he was significant but he was/is competition. I wonder if Hancock might get a look too. Feels like a ton of their eggs are in the "Cole Bishop astronomic leap forward" bucket though.

You're right, but an by its very definition an extension just creates a new contract including what's left with the old one, correct? So DK Metcalf now has 5 years remaining on his contract. The extension is literally just taking what's left of the old contract and extending it. Your DK example in your last sentence would have been accurate if you adjusted the numbers for this year. Or is it the signing part some of you are up in arms about? James Cook might sign a $15mAAV extension for 3 years at $45m, but his actual contract would be 4 years at $50m for $12.5m AAV. The 1st number is more optics. The 2nd number is probably what really matters

All I've seen is his 2023/2024 highlights and his senior bowl tape/coverage. If you have followed him at Kentucky you are certainly in a better position to opine on him. I understand why you would compare him to Jordan Philips because that's what he can look and play like. The tape suggests that. But that comp, while obvious, might be incomplete. I agree that his strength is in his upper body and that his lower body needs to get stronger. But that's a big part of what he needs to work on if he is going to play with a lower pad level. I don't know if you would call it job one but it's certainly very important. If he can't do that his chance of succeeding will be lessened. I am assuming without knowing for certain that a strength and conditioning program will enable him to get there. But maybe this is just a consequence of his unusual body type. I hope not. I'm glad you said he "rarely" occupied two blockers (instead of never) because even based on my limited exposure I've seen him do it against good competition. I can credit your statement though based on your greater familiarity with his play. But I will add that I've seen tape of him showing exceptional lateral mobility for a guy his size pursuing on sweeps and penetrating, not to pressure the quarterback, but to disrupt the run game. There was a senior bowl rep where a 280 pound guard was supposed to disengage from the defender and accede to the second level. He wound up in exactly the same spot after the snap as before. I think he can perhaps develop into the kind of player who has positional versatility along the line. No doubt for now he is a controversial, polarizing player. -
I’ve shared this before, but a friend is a quite well connected attorney in NY. He’s a downstate guy, went to St. John’s for law school, and knows many of the players in NYS govt. Going back a few years, we talked about corruption amongst public servants in NY and when I asked his general feelings on what percentage had baggage/issues, his response was “All of them.”. I happen to believe there are significant issues, and I certainly trust his judgement. It’s the galling part of the weaponization of the govt from some of these cretins. If the stories are accurate, Letitia James knowingly falsified documents, knew they would be accessible, and some were quite egregious—yet she’s so certain she’s above the law that she pushed on anyways. I think, sadly, we do go on in perpetuity, B. There are too many people reliant on NYS govt, and too many people profiting from the system and there is not nearly enough outrage to take back the state. My plan is six mos plus in Fla (eventually) and 5 mos plus in NY. The challenge is we’re a close family and spend a lot of time with our children, and that may be too long away. In that case, we’ll suck it up.

Forrest has been in the league for years and done nothing. I think he's far worse than Hamlin base don what I've read and his production. Hancock is currently a CB they want to convert to safety, so not a real threat to push anyone this year. I missed Ownes, so good catch on that. Significant is a wild overstatement on a guy who's done absolutely nothing in 3 out of 4 NFL seasons, and nothing in 2 years.

He has WNY roots…
