100% agreed and can we please add in the massive money in free agency and draft capital used over the past years to get a Defensive line that can get to the QB and not get pushed around... Phillips, Jefferson, Ford, Miller, Hoecht, Ogunjobi, Carter, albiet rookies but have not looked in anyway good in their short time Landon, Deone Walker, TJ Sanders... literally an entire front end of a draft to address the defense especially the D Line and the pass rush and to date I have seen nothing but them get dominated (I know its way early, but I would like to have seen at least a glimpse of promise like oh I see what the possibility is here... ) Like how long can you go trying to improve this line and how many misses does it take. Bosa is the only hope I see for improvement at this time... or that somehow the Sanders, Walker, Jackson trio get it to click and show us there is potential... but color me frustrated as well with our inability to get a premier player on the DL.

AJE might be swappable for a safety. RVD might too. But you'd be getting someone else's 3rd safety for either of those two players. Nobody is giving you a starter for a backup DE / OL. I doubt Anderson gets you more than a bottom of the roster player in return via trade and Carter and Eddie O are worthless in trade value.

This pretty much where I’m at. If the defense fails again this year I’ll be fully in the time to move on camp. If McDermott needs pro-bowl talent at every position for his scheme to work then the scheme doesn’t work. I see he’s already getting his ducks in a row, as far as excuses go, by saying we don’t have safeties. Whose fault is that? Fair or not, Beane and McDermott have the benefit of standing on Josh’s shoulders so the expectations for them have to be higher

Yep. I said that after last season. That we went into the 2024 offseason knowing those were the two weak spots... spent our top two picks on those two positions and came out of the 2024 season with those as the two weak spots. You are right we have now gone through another roster building period - FA and Draft - and are still in that place. It's really disappointing.

I think we saw (and McBeane) saw Gabe in decline when we didnt try to resign him.. of course the money he signed for was insane... I think ankle and foot issues have compromised him a bit... when he left his performance was questionable and his ability to stay healthy was even more concerning... as he comes back to us now potentially for a workout... Injured... that said, vet min deal for PS or insurance... fine.. spending even 3 or 4 WR money on him... hard pass...

Even hancock out-performing him doesn't really push hamlin off the roster. Need 4, and i personally would want a backup who's played in the system. Lewis is too small to play safety imo.

I think he’s just saying it’s too early to tell this season. I think that’s a very fair interpretation of the data so far. Posters are saying we need a new defensive philosophy based off last years results and this preseason. In a funny term of events we have done more new things in preseason and at the end of last season. The change has already started it’s been super rocky. There’s seemingly a plan to continue using more man coverage but it might not be refined until late in the season. That seems especially true while we wait for Hairston to get back up to speed. But all the hand wringing on defensive philosophy during a preseason game is strange. McD said he does less than zero game planning. Not sure how anyone can speak to defensive philosophy when there’s no game planning.
