Johnston isn’t a bust in any sense of the word. He had 700+ yards and 8 TDs in 15 games last season as a 22 year old. You’d take that kind of jump from Coleman in a heartbeat. That’s not really the point, though. McConkey is great, but it’s silly to blame Beane for passing on him, as there were plenty of reasons for doing so. He was an older rookie, had an injury history, wasn’t overly productive in college, doesn’t have great size, and plays a position that was already set. Did any of that ultimately matter? No, but that’s pure hindsight. If Coleman can return to, and build off of, what he was before his injury, he’s a perfectly good pick. If he remains what he was post injury, he’s a bust. In any event, the comparisons should be to guys like Worthy, Pearsall, Legette, and Mitchell.

Purdy and 49’ers extension. 5 years 265 million
Kirby Jackson replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah, he’s an interesting case because I think Baker is better than that whole tier I listed earlier and he makes less than all of them. Yep!! Absolutely agree. That’s the point. If they aren’t impacting winning in a significant way, the less you’re paying the better. The irony is, as of last week, Purdy was the best contract in football. The 49ers had a window because he’s a pretty good QB that made nothing. I thought @BillsFan130 hit it a little earlier on the guys that you win because of or can win a Super Bowl. -
Keon is starting his second year, his first marred by injury. He is adjusting to going from being one of the best athletes on the field to the pros, where everyone is good. Give the kid a little time. We'll find out if he has it or not by the end of the year. No need to get ahead of ourselves.

The Bills are the only team currently favored to win all 17 games
US Egg replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Still historic. Never been to Saratoga during race season, kind of regret not doing so. Lost my mojo at this point for that size of a party scene. Drinking and betting is a bad combo for me, it was probably a good thing. Clarkson or St. Lawrence? -
Do we? Keon, Shakir, Palmer, Samuel, Moore are our projected top 5. And all 5 would, or at least compete to, start on other teams right now. So, unless one of them surprises and isn’t on the roster week 1 then I don’t think we have any open spots because I doubt we keep more than 5 unless we keep one for ST, and if that is the case it will almost certainly be Shenault. So I’m not sure why people think we have a spot to fill.

That’s almost incredibly optimistic for Coleman but I certainly hope you’re right.

Id rather pay Tyler Shough $6M than Fields $20M -
If the Bills had won a SB over the last five years (or even appeared in one), this topic is moot. Because we’ve been so painfully close, it’s easy to point to Beane’s misses as the reason (Ford instead of AJ Brown or Metcalf, Basham instead of Humphrey, KC jumping us for McDuffie and we whiff on Elam, he’ll even Oliver instead of Wilkins, Simmons or Lawrence). But as been pointed out many, many times every GM, even Veach and Rosman have misses. The teams referenced here - SF, KC and Philly - have all had huge misses. SF picking Lance #3, Philly Reagor over Jefferson or Higgins, KC with numerous whiffs over the years. If we win or even reach the SB this year, all this goes away.

I don’t know what is qualified for SoD anymore because our last administration was a disaster globally, had free falling enlistment numbers, generals in sex kink animal masks and was led by a guy that disappeared for a week and didn’t tell anyone. So, sorry, I’m not worried about Hegseth when, so far, we’ve had success in reclaiming the Panama Canal and breaking the will of the Houthi’s, along with rising enlistment numbers.

Keon Coleman success by route - Not pretty
starrymessenger replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yeah we all remember the hit he took from the two Jets DBs. One of the worse things I've ever seen on a football field (next to Hamlin). I agree that Boldin is an outlier obviously. And every big slow receiver gets compared to him without justification. Where I might disagree with you is in thinking that (without actually being Boldin) he cannot have a very productive career having learned to do the kinds of things that Boldin did. I think I saw enuf from him last year before injury to conclude that it is not unreasonable to project him that way. Boldin was rare. Coleman is a rare specimen.
