Playoff record, rule changes and the Bills
Dafan replied to RoscoeParrish's topic in The Stadium Wall
You can't saw that whatsoever. You're saying that in 4 of those years, the Bills would have had a bye. Which means they could have rested more and played better. You can't just climate their wins and expect the same results in the rest of the play offs. -
Playoff record, rule changes and the Bills

Fun fact once the NFL goes to an 8 team playoff the Bills will get the 1 seed every year. -
I just peeked around other teams practice squads to see if any of the bills cuts landed elsewhere - I don’t see any ex-bills anywhere yet which is pretty interesting. I’d thought there would be some interest in some of the younger O-lineman (Gouraige, Mike Edwards, even Jacob Bayer) that the bills didn’t retain - but maybe this just shows how thin the margins are for these fringe players to hold onto their NFL dreams. (I did notice the Jags put TE Quinton Morris on their practice squad. I thought he had a good chance to be TE2 with the Jags but obviously didn’t work out. Any injuries happen to the bills TE’s, I’d expect them to bring Q back).

I’ll deal with what actually did happen. -
There weren't any cuts I didn't like or thought were surprising. It was pretty much as expected. What did surprise me a little bit is that not a single player from the veteran pool of QB Mike White, WR K.J. Hamler, WR Laviska Shenault, TE Zach Davidson, OT Richard Gouraige, LB Edefuan Olofoshio, or S Darrick Forrest were brought back on the Practice Squad. I thought there were multiple people from that list, if not most, would be back on the Squad. Not a single one was a bit of a shock.

Playoff record, rule changes and the Bills

Going back to 2000 is hard because the playoff format/divisions were different before the NFL expanded in 2002. What I can say is that from 2003-2019, the two seed made the SB 7 times. So closer to 41%. -
Allen vs Mahomes, is this a controversial take?
GoBills808 replied to zow2's topic in The Stadium Wall
maybe you would but most people w brains would see a guy dragging his team along while steadily compiling the most impressive statistical playoff profile in league history and realize calling that qb a loser is just a bad take -

Again, that means there's restructures that were done that weren't announced. Which is entirely possible and something I am wondering about. They have everything that's public up until today. And like I said, they not only need to be at 0, they need to be like 2.5m in the positive for in season spending. That's not just a little off - that's over a 10.5m discrepancy. So I'm intrigued as to what we're missing here.

Playoff record, rule changes and the Bills

I don't know why this is so hard for so many Bills fans to understand. McD just beats mediocre teams in the playoffs. Really the only impressive win was last year against the Ravens and that was a home game with terrible weather conditions and we just squeaked by with a few major blunders by the Ravens. -
So, the first person is……not here right now? 🤷♂️

Trump said in an interview few days ago that if there was a war there wouldn’t be an election. And you find this clip deranged?

While I do think ideally they don't have to play Poyer, I do believe that unlike Hyde - Poyer has the potential to play if there's injuries. Unlike Hyde, Poyer is here in the building before Week 1. If this were just a "potentially get him a ring" thing like Hyde - I think they would have waited until later like we did with Hyde. The main reason that Hyde didn't see the field, in my opinion, was his health. He was said to have had multiple recurring stingers in 2023 after returning from his Neck injury. I think he and the NFL as a whole realized his Neck wouldn't allow him to play after that. Poyer doesn't have health issues. Also, last year, we had multiple veteran Safety's on the Practice Squad in Kareem Jackson and Lewis Cine that they could play instead of Hyde. This Practice Squad, however, only has Poyer and Sam Franklin - who is much more of a Special Teams player than he is an NFL Safety. So again, I think ideally the Safety room stays healthy and they get production from the depth chart. But if there are injuries and we need to promote a Safety, unlike Hyde - I believe they wouldn't hesitate to call up Jordan Poyer.

Does stopping at 2010 vs say 2000 change the percentages? -
Agreed...I'm hoping preseason was just a mirage and everything just corrects itself. I feel the offense will be fine, but will take a few game to shake off the rust. The only way this team makes it back to the AFCG is if injuries are at a minimum. The defensive backfield gives me the heebie-jeebies. The defense without injuries will easily give up 25-30 points per game.

After reading this thread, you only have 2 choices. Eat the casserole Remove all of Draconator's warning points. Your choice. Choose wisely. Speaking in the 3rd person because I'm sober after doing yard work in the dark.

With respect, I think it is far fetched. Because if another team agreed, they'd sign that guy to their 53 and let them compete for the starting job.

Improved Coleman Josh Palmer might be better than cooper Rookie DT’s had excellent camp and preseason healthy and motivated Milano Joey Bias as a pass rusher Hoecht as a pass rusher Nielson as DL coach Tabor as ST coach Worries injuries during Stacy and PS - a ton of missed practices safety and CB are untested is Kincaid ready to take the next step in year 3 Will Johnson come back from a poor season

I saw a few post on some of points below and I wanted to put some things together. #1 Josh Allen is the only QB with 6+ playoff wins and no SB appearance #2 Josh Allen is 7-6 in the playoffs. McD is 7-7. both of these stats are kind of interesting to me. Mostly in the context of the rule change in 2020, expanding the playoff field to 7 and eliminating the bye week for the #2 seed. Under the pre-2020 rules, the Bills would have a bye week in 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024. thats 4 extra playoff games (all wins) against teams that would not have qualified for playoffs prior to 2020. So under the old pre-2020 rules: Josh Allen would be 3-6 in the postseason. Sean McDermott would be 3-7. Here’s another stat. Since the rule changes, only ONE two seed has made the Super Bowl. And that was this season in the Eagles. from 2010-2019, a two seed made the Super Bowl 5 times, good for 50%. So, major points. Has the 2020 rule change helped the PERCEPTION of the Bills playoff success with an inflated win total, but in reality, actually damaged their actual chance of playoff success by eliminating such an advantage?
