I like his potential for the reasons you stated. It's nice to have a big-body receiver, especially one with a basketball pedigree that can leap. We need to be throwing him a couple of long jump balls every game. Worst-case scenario we have a few picks that are effectively arm-punts.

President Trump Cracking down on Crime in our Nation's Capital
Andy1 replied to B-Man's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
It’s not just Harvard. Everything, every business or other entity in Trumps crosshairs feel compelled to fork over extortion money in exchange for them being allowed to exist, or Trump will attack them with the power of the Federal government. Nvidia now has to pay 15% of their revenue from chip sales to China to the government. (Im not sure they should even be selling chips to China, but I guess Trump is fine with that, as long as he gets his cut). Tim Cook has to deliver a gold bar to Trump, foreign nations have to give him a jet airplane. Law firms are forced to donate their services to Trumps causes. On and on… Whatever happened to Republicans wanting government out of society? I thought you all hated how the Dems made big government requiring masks, vaxes CAFE standards, etc. Trump is the most progressive, activist President we have ever seen. He wants to manipulate and control every facet of American society Republicans disagree with. He declares all these fake emergencies to justify his actions. Why has he gone after the big law firms? It’s because they are the ones who bring lawsuits against the government for unconstitutional actions. When has a Dem president ever used the power of the government to neuter powerful law firms? Trump is trying every possible action, constitutional or unconstitutional, that he can to expand his power. Presidential norms are out the window. Every President following him, on either side of the isle, will feel free to do likewise. The question is: Is that the kind of government we want? Regarding DC: Since when have Republicans cared about the lives of city residents? This is much more about Trump trying to change the story from Epstein and make himself look powerful to his base. Every other President has been extremely reluctant to deploy troops in law enforcement capacity. There is a reason for that. Now Trump declares fake emergencies to normalize their presence on the streets. I hope it goes well but there is reason for concern. Trump is now seeking to create a quick reaction force of troops to deploy on civillian protesters. I don’t like the direction this is all going. Our nation has done just fine, through much more turbulent times, without regularly deploying the military on our soil. My concern is that in an heated protest, young military troops not trained to deal with such events, will take violent action against our citizens. That would be a tragedy for both sides. I hope I’m wrong. -

I think this narrative is just so overblown. Despite being on the field 45% of the snaps he still nearly doubled Ray Davis' rush attempts and quintupled Ty Johnson's. He had almost as many receptions as Davis and Johnson combined. People act like he was just a cog in a rotation. When in fact he was by far our most consistently explosive skill player and made a big difference when he was on the field. Personally I'm glad they're limiting his snaps. Keep his mileage low so he can continue making game changing plays for the next four seasons. -
Yeah, and we did it through the 80s too with Booker Moore, Greg Bell, and Ronnie Harmon.

I'm not panicking. I don't expect Rookie's to be finished products in Year 1. Things happen with injuries and slow development. But that's the point. With our cap situation with so much delegated to retaining so many guys (who should or should not be retained, depending on the situation) in the window we're in, we rely on these guys in Year 1 to be big time difference makers to take us over the top. Bc we can't afford to get known commodities. Guys like Coleman, Bishop, and Carter are crucified for not being ready quick enough bc we're *relying* on them. When a little more fiscal spending on the number of people we retain could get us players who we KNOW will be an impact instead of not being able to afford to sign or trade for them - as we have for the past couple years. -
Marshawn was definitely on his way out. McD would’ve dumped him even sooner. The problem was taking Spiller when they had Jackson on the roster. Just grab a complimentary back on the second or third day and use the #9 overall on something important. Crazy drafting.

This is why I tell anyone who screams for Beane and McDermott to be fired, we could easily be right back in the mess that preceeded them. I get they haven't won a Super Bowl. I understand where their critics are coming from but I would much rather have the competence we have had for nearly the last decade even if we never win one than go back to the nearly 2 decades before it.

There are plenty of other threads to bash McDermott and Beane's actions. This is a thread about Cook re-signing with the Bills and posters to express their opinion about the deal. Making a passing comment about a related subject (such as weapons on offense besides Cook) is fine but you are going on and on about such topics. It is called hijacking a thread. Also, your posting language needs to be toned down. This board has been here a long time due to decorum, very reasonable rules and highly knowledgeable posters. Consider this a friendly suggestion to tone it down before the mods start saying the above in a far less polite way. -
First off, are you okay? You're reviving dead threads to rehash a dead issue based on quotes from a player and randos. But to move on to Ladd's point, the answer is really simple - the "slot stereotype" comes from his usage. Khalil Shakir is our Slot. No one questions that. His snap percentage from the Slot was 70% last season. No one takes 100% of their snaps on the Outside or the Inside as a WR. And what was Ladd McConkey's Slot Usage? 65% There's a difference between a guy who "can play outside" and an Outside WR. He took 35% of his snaps on the Outside (as Shakir took 30% of his snaps on the Outside). That doesn't mean he can live there. If the Chargers felt McConkey was an Outside WR, he'd be taking 65% of his snaps on the Outside and 35% on the Inside instead of the other way around. If the Chargers felt he was an Outside WR, they wouldn't have spent another 2nd Round Pick on a True Outside WR this year to replace Joshua Palmer. They'd have just slid him over. We didn't need a WR you "can play Outside" in certain packages. We needed a guy who could live there. And in both College, his evaluation coming into the League, and how he was used in his Rookie season - he's not that.

Chris Hogan routinely played under 50% of his snaps in the slot. do you know why? its not because of his skin color

So you’re only allowed to look at the successes and not the misses, got it… I expect Beane’s scouting department to do a better job of not blowing high end draft capital on a regular basis. Or we can keep pretending that this team contends for anything whatsoever as it’s currently built without the generational unicorn that is Josh Allen under center… it’s a decently built team with a decent head coach and arguably the greatest QB ever to take the field. If Beane and McDermott landed Baker or Darnold instead of backing into Josh are they even in Buffalo right now? Point is I’m not going to blow smoke like Brandon Beane can’t frickin miss when really the only bullseye has been Josh Allen, and a kudos on building up the OL… But am I wrong expect him to hit some drafts out of the park every now and again? Rather than resting his laurels on the fact that he’s the guy who drafted Josh Allen. I’m supposed to sit here and make a big deal bc the guy extended a running back? He has Josh Allen and zero Super Bowl appearances at this juncture in his tenure with the Buffalo Bills, by my measuring stick that’s underperforming when we all know who and what we have in 17. -
No worries.

The problem is you need to hit on those guys. The HOPE is that your Picks will be great. But to rely on them to take you over the hump is a big ask. Seldom do we take a guy in the first few Rounds that we don't feel good about as prospects, just as we feel good about Hairston (who's already hurt and who will miss Rookie Training Camp and Pre-Season, an integral part of Rookie development), T.J. Sanders, and Landon Jackson (who looked not ready for Primetime in Pre-Season Week 1). But we still have had misses, slow development, and injuries there over the past few years that have kept us from getting us to the Promised Land. You can disparagingly drop "names" to discount the importance of known commodities. But they're names for a reason. We know they're difference makers. With the current format that Beane applies to, it's maintain the core that hasn't gotten us there and relying on unsung FA's and lottery ticket Draft Picks. And again, I'm not advocating "blow it all up". But I do believe he goes way too hard on the "Draft, Develop, Retain" mantra. There's some players that we've delegated a fair amount of cap space to that could have been moved on from. -
Are you sure those numbers are correct? https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/player/_/id/21807/larry-ogunjobi His guarentees were broken into the signing bonus, spread over 4 years which gets you to 3.4 mill and a 2 million salary guarantee (which was voided because of suspension). It would have added to 5.4 guaranteed if not for the suspension. So the Bills are looking at guarenteeing 3.4 mil if he never takes a snap. I am not suggesting releasing him now but if the 5 DTs you carry on the initial 53 (none of the guys you listed, Oliver Jones Sanders Walker Carter) you could choose to release him week 8 following the suspension given they are happy with the room and healthy. This would be 3.4 mil out the window, carrying the bag for 2.5 in dead money next year, which they are going to have to eat no matter what. I see it as a bit of insurance at this point. Beane could have bailed. But at that point he did not know they’d be taking 2 DTs in day 2 of the draft or how they’ll pan out early on. Though it’s an unlikely scenario, it’s happened before. Beane has shown that he’ll eat guaranteed money even on a one year guy (OJ Howard) if it’s best for the roster both immediately and long term. You make a good point about the IOL. I think they’ll need someone with some flexibility to play inside. It’s tough to know if they see VDM Grable or Lundt as that versatile but going in with truly only 3 guard options would leave them light in depth.
