Sounds like the gap has definitely closed since then. After further research, I was thinking of the IFAF world championship that happens every four years. It started in 1999 and the US first played in 2007. The championship game was actually closer than I remembered, but before that, it was blowouts.

Lol Bama has three non conference games. Two of them are Louisiana-Monroe and Eastern IL. I half expect them to play a online university at some point soon. I don't disagree; just trying to differentiate between folks who consider it an unfair advantage vs folks who find it tedious. Sports require tension to be interesting and the NFL is on a torrid run of doing things that remove tension from the game.

I agree - it is also I think much more superficial now where they don't really try to create as many "dramatic" story lines or dig as deep into the ones they do make (which I'm sure is partly done to try to make it less objectionable to prospective teams)
