This is worse than drought era hot takes

Want a fun read - go read the ridiculous hot takes about Hard Knocks in the original thread this spring on the announcement. -
How do you know Beane could have traded up to get DeJean? How do you know he will be end up being better than Bishop?
-
No worries, I get it, I know what the OP was asking. My response is that IMHO the game tape on Diggs says and shows how talented he was. Talent and fit are very different things, and while Diggs had immense talent (still some of the best feet and routes I have ever seen), his personality clashed with the vibe of this locker room and wore down the relationship. And it was magnified by Brady's offense going away "featuring" a target which also allowed Josh to play less reckless and minimize mistakes by getting rid of those forced error turnovers. As far as the MVP goes, not having Diggs (or Davis) helped his case for the MVP because Burrow and Lamar had better stats, but Allen had a better record while working with less weapons around him.

Early returns on 2024 Draft is awful
Delete_Delete_Delete replied to Pete's topic in The Stadium Wall
Groot is solid, but no OC’s are game planning for him like a top tier DE, but I’d give him a B. James Cook is legit… After that, excluding Josh, his resume for the first few rounds is less than stellar. Edmunds Oliver, who given his top 10 draft status has underperformed. Elam Kincaid who is running the risk of venturing into bust category without a breakout year AJ Mehpenesa Cody Ford Boogie Basham That’s a lot of high end draft capital, and as the OP mentioned, last years class isn’t look so hot at this point. You’d like to give them the benefit of the doubt, but this teams track record of developing its day 1/2 picks doesn’t leave me feeling to optimistic for Carter or Bishop, I still think Keon can contribute, but would’ve rather had Worthy, Ladd or traded up for BTJ, Coleman was not a guy I was keen on but I can think Josh can get the most out of him. -

Does there need to be a rethinking of the basic D?
Victory Formation replied to oldmanfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Much of the time on defense you know what the offense will do, but can you stop it? Most of the time it’s a battle between will. -

I don't hate Diggs. I hated his drama. Outside that.. He came to Buffalo.. Immediately hooked up with JA and Balled. But just like his last team.. Drama boy ruined his rep.

First off I defend my pukes.. I don't puke on a post and leave it as is.. you should of just stopped with the But. You were doing so well till then... you're reading too much into preseason ball. You really think that half the game, we will play 1 man back all game when they are throwing as much as they were? There is 1's vs many of our 2's/ Their 2's vs many of our 2's and 3's its reading to much into preseason Did EVERYONE forget the 36-6 but kicking we took against Chicago 2024? And how did that work out for both teams last year.. You want to talk post season then I am game.... but till our #1 team is on the field altogether.. you have no clue how this team will look like. moving on. -
If you are cutting Hamlin, do it now...
Paup 1995MVP replied to Ethan in Cleveland's topic in The Stadium Wall
Buffalo Joe could not start right now for the top half of the SEC or Big 10. He looks so overmatched. We have a lot of guys who are so limited athletically on defense. It’s a big problem. We have missed on a lot of guys. Even our supposed good players on defense are not that good. Other than maybe Benford and Milano, if healthy. (Bernard is always banged up and so is Taron.) Having the same coach and GM is good for continuity. But sometimes you need a different set of eyes and different way of thinking added to the mix. Things can get stale. Hopefully last night was a wake up call. If not, the opener could certainly be. Having Tre White and Bishop or Hamlin starting against the Ravens really scares me. -
Kyle Dugger….Possible trade/cut candidate
BigAl2526 replied to gonzo1105's topic in The Stadium Wall
If he was playing so terrible, it is hard to believe the Patsies would want to pay him that much and commit to a 4 year deal. The article says the new contract was signed late in the year. If the Bills were to trade for him, it would take some hard work to make it fit under the cap. -
I just feel such great relief with him not being here anymore.

Love the bolded, as it defines McD's tenure to date. The problem with what many of us want the Bills to do more of, as you detail above, relies on a different mindset/philosophy of play-calling all together. It's a more high-risk, high-reward style of diverse/matchup/play-to-play poker play-calling where the DC is competing against the opposing OC (whoever calls plays) as much or more than he's running a "scheme" or "system" that only really works with high end talent who know "the system" with total fluency. I'm recalling what it looks like when Sean McDermott calls out-of-character, yet predictable, late game cover-zero blitzes that lost us two games in the same season (2023, right?). He's not always great at predicting what opponents want to do in general and what they will do play-to-play imho. Hopefully Babich shows growth in this particular skill. The bend part is more talent-based imho. The Bills cover guys, outside of Benford, and Johnson a little, don't fare well being more aggressive early in the route. Our LBs (minus Milano and to a lesser extent Bernard) and safeties do NOT always get to their spots or read the route concepts/progressions early enough to close those drafty windows. Which means there are reliable gimmes for the taking if they stick to a quick hitting/timing attack and continue to mix in the run with some success. That Carolina defense, on the contrary, didn't intentionally bend much, primarily because they were stacked with difference makers. Until that season when they repeatedly left their rookie corners on cover-3 islands to get fairly abused. The "scheme" didn't really adjust to the talent, or I guess the talent was not good enough to continually run that scheme. -
Training Camp News - Around the League version
Sierra Foothills replied to DrDawkinstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes, in the Browns QB Derby he edged out Slim Pickins. I agree that 4 games is around the over/under... maybe 3. As has been discussed, they can't afford to be too patient. -
I think what the OP is trying to say is that Allen was responsible for making him look elite, as his numbers with Allen are much better than without. IMO, the Offense actually got better last year without Diggs, and Allen had an MVP season.....I think the case can be made for this theory.

Good Night / Bad Night - Pre-season Game 2
Alphadawg7 replied to GunnerBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Good write up, nothing really to add, pretty much agree with everything you said. I said before preseason began that Shavers probably ends up on the PS. But then after the rest of camp and the first preseason game, I posted that I think Shavers may already be ahead of Moore, and a big reason was not only was he playing better at WR thus far, but he was playing more and playing well on ST. Moore and Samuel at the end of the WR bench bring very little value there. For the Bills to keep no WR's that can help on ST much means those 5 guys better be balling, and they just arent. Now after the 2nd preseason game, I think Shavers is ahead in the competition with Moore. On a side note, Samuel hasn't done anything either to keep his job security up either. BUT - his advantage is worse contract to cut and he has experience with Josh, Brady, and the offense. So I think its Shavers or Moore and right now, if I had to bet on one, I would bet on Shavers. Would it surprise me to see them send Shavers to PS and keep Moore - No - but I still think Shavers is the betting favorite now over Moore. -
Very good wideout Not elite until he got here and fading quickly afterwards

Cleveland Browns building a new dome stadium
Sierra Foothills replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'll go back to my original point which is that there are a lot of very smart people working in that special niche of commercial real estate that encompasses stadium development. If there was money to be made by building a domed stadium in Orchard Park, there would have been a big push to get it done. The fact that it was never a possibility tells me that it was not viewed as a good investment. -

Wasn't his name Bagent. And I thought that McDermott was arguing that the ball went forward and was therefore an incomplete pass. -

This. I would say top 5, but he had a case for top 3 for his first 2 1/2 seasons here.
