With us looking the way we are, the Patriots looking the way they are (after great Drafting over the past few years and new good Coaching), and then now having a game and a half up on us - the Division looks like a stretch and I'm far from guaranteeing us a Wild Card. The flaws on this team are far too great for one Chris Olave to turn us from what we are to a contender. I do want him but I fear even making the move is too little too late. And I greatly fear his injury history. He has had FOUR known concussions since 2022. Obtaining him for a 1st that could very well be a Top 16 pick, we lose him, and lose the pick would be a nightmare. And a very real one. I do agree with you that something needs to be done. And like you (and pretty much everyone) I do want Olave. I agree that something needs to be done. And if Beane decided the gamble was worth it and sent a 1st, I'd be happy we got him and hope for the best. But I'd be much happier with a deal as high as a 2nd this year and a 2nd next year.

Yea it is not just player driven. Don't get me wrong there are personnel issues. But the DC is over his head, things that have not been issues in the first seven years of this regime are suddenly issues with this DC. I can count on one hand in the Frazier years the number of snaps where the Bills D was not lined up properly or confused pre snap. It has happened at least once every single game this year. And before anyone accuses me of it I am not excusing McDermott. He hired Babich as a rookie DC (a pretty sought after one but a rookie DC all the same) and he is a defensive Head Coach who establishes the basis for this scheme and when it is his reputation and possibly job on the line he has to step in and fix it. But the defense is woeful at the moment. The first half display in Atlanta was pathetic. It was not NFL worthy. That cannot happen.

I think a lot of people underestimate the impact of missing so many guys that were assumed to be important to the D or even amongst our best guys. Oliver, Milano, and Bernard have all missed relevant time. Arguably expected to be 3 of our better players. Max has missed the whole season so far, our first round pick expected to at least contribute early, if not already be starting by now. Both our FA signings on the DL are both expected to be heavily involved in our rotation up front but have missed the whole season on suspension thus far. So I do think our defense can, and should, be better once we get more of these guys on the field at the same time. I think its fair to add in that Walker seems to be getting even better each week too and his minutes and impact should also rise. Now - all that being said, I don't trust Babich at all, and I think a lot of our struggles even with the guys out falls on him too. So if we don't see a noticeable difference once we start getting all these guys back on the field, then I think McD needs to take over the play calling duties.
