Game week thread - Bills at Falcons MNF
Ray Stonada replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Gonna be a tough one with the state of our defense. I would prefer we play the younger and newer guys and let them get going. Time to let the older guys--Tre, Taron, Jordan Philips, Daquan, etc.--step back and a new core develop. -
Some changes you would like to see this week

Can't do this. The way things are going in the NFL this season, you need to have your backup kicker dressed on game day. By this same token, need to sign Zach Davidson to the 53. You can thank me later. I'll be setting up a Go Fund Me. -
This. I was pretty certain that someone inferior would knock us off after near-misses by Miami and N.O.

Great post, I don't think this has been discussed ever here before -
downfield is not part of the current coaching plans. its be careful and run clock and hope the other team makes a mistake.
-
That team has Bijan Robinson and Drake London among others, and a rising defense…that’s a tough out

Return of the Tre! (Tre White signs with the Bills)
HappyDays replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
Unfortunately I think that was the plan. He was getting 1st team reps from the start of camp and even before Hairston's injury he had reportedly locked down the starting job. I think they made a bad decision bringing him back and felt that way at the time. You need to be aware of your own bad habits so that you know to avoid them. They were always going to go with the culture fit veteran who knows the defense once they gave themselves that option. He had a solid training camp against what it turns out is a well below average group of outside WRs, and they used that to convince themselves he could still play. It turns out the tape from last year didn't lie - he simply is not physically capable of playing the position anymore. He'd be a nice emergency depth option since he knows the defense but it was a big mistake to enter the season with him as the starter. And now week over week it is getting worse because offenses are identifying him as an easy target. -

Return of the Tre! (Tre White signs with the Bills)
BillsFanForever19 replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think the hope was that Tre returning to the Defense he was familiar with would make him at least serviceable. The issue is, not only is he not remotely the same guy anymore, but the stellar Safety play behind him he was used to isn't there to bail him out. I don't think the plan was ever to start him and have him play 100% of the snaps as he is now. There was an outside chance Hairston would start out of the gate. But more likely he'd be splitting reps with Hairston initially, with Hairston gradually getting more as he got his sea legs under him - ultimately starting and taking over by this point or mid season. Hairston getting injured really messed those plans up. But we had an insurance policy in Dorian Strong, like we did when we took Elam and Benford. And he showed some promise. Last night, I'm positive he'd be being cycled in for White with how bad he was playing. As he had been throughout the season. But now Strong's on IR too. And we're just stuck with White. Relying on him 100% with no one cycling in for him, unless we want to go with Ingram. This is absolutely nowhere to be. The good news is i'd expect to have Hairston back after the bye or soon thereafter. The bad news is, that plan to bring him along slowly and not throw too much at him too soon will probably still happen. So I wouldn't expect them to just throw him into the fire. -
While I agree that a downfield passing attack would be nice, unfortunately, we do not, currently, have the personnel for it.

So it’s McDs fault Allen threw the INT? It’s McDs fault Allen and Knox fumbled a snap? I guess McD made Keon fumble too? We either lost points or gave up points on all 3 turnovers in a game we lost by 3. We literally win by 2-3 scores if we just don’t commit 2 of them. You have 2 choices - you can blame the person whose fault it’s not just because it fits an agenda or we can stay grounded in reality about the real reason we lost, which was 3 individual mistakes. And hate to break it to you, when you lose the turnover battle 3-1 you most often lose. This isn’t about defending McD, this is about the reality of why we actually lost as opposed to just firing the person who actually had nothing to do with it. Blaming McD for this loss is like blaming your golf clubs for why you shot 110. Does it mean McD gets a free pass - no - but it’s pretty silly to put all the blame on him where the players made 3 very critical individual mistakes. -
I don't know if this is just by Brady's offensive design or if the receivers are all just that bad or what, but we need to be able to pass the ball downfield. Dink and dunk is fine. It also has to be part of our arsenal. It can't be the entire gameplan though. A downfield pass game opens that stuff up more. We have a QB with the biggest cannon in the NFL and we don't even use it anymore. I know people will say that we just don't have any receivers capable of it. I don't really believe that. I see no names all the time catch downfield balls. If it's true then it's true. If thats the case then I as much as I hate to say it... we need Gabe Davis back on the active roster. I don't trust his hands, but the dude has made downfield plays for us. It needs to be part of our arsenal. We aren't going to dink and dunk our way to a superbowl. It takes too much precision and leaves no room for mistakes. Hell, I think this Pats game was the first time I seen Brady take a shot on 2nd and 1 instead of just running the ball to pick up the first down. I been banging the table about that since last year.
