Yes, the balls come into play. But also, the path of the kicker as well. Used to be kickers were small. The most unathletic guy in the field. Now, we are seeing larger, athletic, stronger guys as kickers. Kickers actually lift these days and work on strength and power. However for the most part it seems they lack the consistency on a regular basis that we saw 30 years ago.

Probably a dumb question but do we believe kickers are so much better now, across the league, or are we just letting everyone use insane kicking balls now? I feel like if we are going to give you the ball at the 35, and not let anyone touch anybody on defense, so you can throw 2 mid-range passes to get into range, then least we should do is not give the kickers a balloon they can kick 70 yards. Should it not be impossible to kick 70 yards FG? I find it hard to believe anyone is kicking the ball from the 90s that far.

pre game planning by coaches set the tone last week and the players responded accordingly. Hopefully they can get palmer and coleman going this week together, those two are the key for this seasons success in the passing game.

I love Mack Hollins. Wish we had kept him, and think it was a mistake not to re-sign him for what NE offered. That being said, the talent level is higher this year-- the execution isn't. Largely that falls on coaching imo, but drop-offs in effort and/or comfort among players will do that, too. God, do I miss Mack though. Amazing locker room guy, and a fantastic example of making a career out of doing the dirty work.

These next 3 games, and really the next 2, will tell us everything about this team. My gut tells me winning the division is a mug's bet, but advanced analysis says it's a very likely outcome

Go on Youtube and watch a bunch of game summary videos from 2020 - 2023 and one of the things that stands out was how often you see Davis either making a big catch to convert 3rd down or score a TD. And he did it in the playoffs to. I agreed 100% with Beans decision not to pay Davis 13 million per year. His production and other issues did not warrant that level of pay. But if he can return to near his pre-injury production then he will be the best WR on this years team. It's not saying much other then it would be a big upgrade from the current low floor.

A 13 seconds video came up on my FB reels about 2 weeks ago. I had not seen those 3 plays since it happened. It has been too painful to watch since. Watching it again I was stunned to actually observe it was WORSE than I remembered. They were playing so far off those receivers and no pass rush. Even if they had purposely held and tackled Kelce and Hill on the first down play and drew a penalty that would have killed clock and they would have got 10 measly yards. No time for a 3rd play FG try. It literally is the dumbest defensive coaching in NFL history in the most crucial circumstance imaginable. I never forgave McD after that. Total idiot strategy that cost us a SB.

With Palmer's injury Palmer/Moore have yet to replace the production and presence of Hollins & Cooper. T.Johnson has been a far less effective receiver then he was last season where he had multiple big time receptions down the field. Ditto for Cook. Kincaid is better then last year and Allen has a QB rating of 151.5 when targeting him. This means that Allen is exploiting Kincaid's jump as much as possible and the real question is why is Kincaid not on the field for even more targets? Coleman has regressed from last season where before his injury he was making big plays downfield. So I don't see how you can say there hasn't been a drop in receiving talent from last season to this season. Oh and last season it wasn't exactly a great WR room either.
