Allen Wilson, writing for the Sporting News, reports rumors are swirling that the Buffalo Bills may be looking to trade QB J.P. Losman. It is uncertain whether the Bills are looking to deal Losman or merely trying to gauge interest in him, but the growing whispers about a possible trade are not a good sign.

I am aware we knew about the rumor. I was under the impression that KFFL had a certain level of reliability, like they check up on their links. Sorry if they don't I didnt mean to clutter up the board. Thought this was an indicator that the rumor was more likely true.

He's repeating the same baseless unsubstantiated rumors we heard earlier. And if you read the article, he says even though it's not a good sign to hear swirling rumors, it's a silly question, doesn't make much sense, wouldn't look good, wouldn't get much for him, and it's undetermined whether they may be just trying to gauge interest. Vic Carrucci was on 103.3 The Edge this morning and said the JP trade rumours were pure ca-ca. The biggest reason was the enourmous cap hit the Bills would have to take. Funny how a little logic shoots down the peskiest rumours.

Oh, I think that it's very possible that the Bills "leaked" that they may be shopping Losman. That sure makes that #8 pick a little more valuable now doesn't it? That's just like the Titans' owner Bud Adams saying the same crap. Another spin on making this annouced move could also turn the heat up on the earlier teams in the draft to either select a QB themselves, Tennessee, Jets and Raiders, or trade their pick to another team who is in need of a QB. This is a deluted attempt to get a player to slip to us, players like Ferguson or Williams.

If anything, Wilson is as much dismissing as acknowledging the rumor. He's saying, "there are rumors", but they make little sense.

Honestly, this doesn't make much sense to me even though I don't love JP. The draft is a crap shoot, if we wanted to make a change at QB we could have taken a shot at Culpepper.

While I like Vic and think that the rumor is false, I do not believe the cap enters in to it. The Bills will be 14 million under the cap after they trade Moulds, and I do not see 14 million worth of free agents coming in this year. If you where sure that Losman was a bust(I do not think you can be sure of that yet) now would be the time to get rid oh him so you save the money next year and have more money to shop with in what hopes to be a better free agent crop.

The Internet explosion, which is both completely awesome and completely infuriating, has created a new world for professional athletes as well as fans. Where as there used to be that stigma of the press is different in New York City and you have to deal with it if you're a player there, now everywhere is New York City.

 

I have now read about a dozen stories about this shopping of Losman, and each one is referring to the others and that is what is called "more rumors". It's not more rumors, it's the same rumor copy-and-pasted and it wasn't from any real source at all to begin with.

 

Players have to deal with this stuff now, and frankly, I don't see it as a problem for them, just an irritant, like a fly that just won't go away, until it does. I like Losman a lot. I think he will be a very good quarterback in this league and I want him on my team. That is just a prediction and he could completely tank. This should not affect Losman's play whatsoever, and if it does, he's going to tank and I don't want him to be my quarterback.

agreed, but it's less about this one particular story than the slow accretion of stories which hint at the notion that losman isn't getting much love from levy and jauron. there have been many such stories, and levy and jauron's public comments aren't particularly encouraging. you're right though; he still has a lot of upside and can really throw the ball well. if you want my opinion, i think the real question is whether he has the capabililty to direct an offense efficiently and process defensive schemes fast enough.

Actually, I'm very much in favor of shamefull and baseless rumors when they pertain to The Bills. And here's why. It's a little known secret that the amount of shamefull and baseless rumors about a team is taken into account by The League when they're calculating compensation picks.

 

It works something like the Chunky Soup poll - the more shamefull and baseless rumors a team's fan sites have that can be linked to any other football reportage site, the more points that team gets in the very complicated formula league officials use to determine compensatory picks. Extra points are awarded if the site is ESPN - except if it comes from John Clayton.
