So last year around now I was pushing 195 lbs at 5'9".  I felt for the first time since I was younger I could stand to lose some weight.  So I tried eating better and hit the treadmill.  Even did a 5k in the summer.  I can't do them nearly as fast I used to in my 20s but still.  I got down to about 180-183 lbs in September.  Thought I was doing good but I've been slowly gaining the weight back.  Up to about 190 lbs.  I feel like haven't really done anything that dramatically different then the summer.

But maybe subconsciously in colder/darker weather I've been craving more calories.

At anyway I googled it in our information age and looks like I'm not alone

I've definitely gained like 12 lb in the last couple months but I stopped running

And all I eat is rib eyes and chicken breast basically so that will do it

With some carbs

I've lost 20 labs since July. I gained a ton because of prednisone (which I need for anti-rejection) are putting me on mounjaro after my colonoscopy in Jan.

I use my phone to track my steps. If you look at my steps month by month over a full year it makes a perfect little bell curve. When the weather is nicer I’m out and get more steps. When the weather gets cold and wet my steps go way down. The peak of the steps mountain is June, July and August with FAR fewer steps in Dec/Jan/Feb. It’s just natural unless you have perfectly level seasons.

for me the sweets and treats of the holidays come home to roost on my body yes indeed

. Once the holidays are over it's back to healthy lifestyle reality. I eat pretty clean otherwise. I like to stay at my goal weight as often as possible

Fat season is officially marked at the start by the purchase of Halloween candy, typically around 28-Oct, & continues through when the last of your Xmas junk is consumed, usually about a week into the new year.  I'm happy if I only gain 5 lbs.

I thought of all that was warming up for Easter. 🐰

For me it’s the relationship between intake and exercise. I’m busy and active when it’s nice out. When the weather turns I not only get fewer steps in, but I’m sitting around more….thinking of what to snack on. Fewer steps AND more snacks is a double whammy.

Who doesn't gain weight during the football season + holidays?

You might be eating and drinking more- assuming you drink watching football, eat and drink attending holiday parties, etc.

You might be burning less calories. Most of the calories you burn in a day come from Non-exercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT)- this is all the random stuff you do during the day- walking, fidgeting, etc. During the winter, your NEAT is probably down- maybe due to cold weather making you sluggish, making you go outside and walk around less, less daylight causing shorter days with less activity, and other factors specific to you.

It's gotta be one or both. Either more calories in, or less calories out. I'd be willing to bet it's both: You're eating more seasonal calories, and your NEAT is down, which are both super common for the time of year.

Macro diet. Best way to go.

9 grams carb

6 grams protein

1.5 grams lipid

X

(Your weight/10)

_____

Simple easy diet

If you weigh 220...

22 blocks a day

If you weigh 150... 15

They have proven calories don't need to be increase with proper diet and nutrition by studying long distance runners who seldom consume more than 3000 calories.

Those long distance runners don't run 20 miles a day every day. They hit 100 a week, sure, but it's a bunch of short runs, a rest day, and a long run of 20-25 miles.

These Buffalo Winters are brutal because of these facts
