An Observation during broadcast of Bills/Bengals

I saw something interesting during the Bills/Bengals broadcast on Sunday.  There was a shot of Brady in the booth.  Standing behind him was a guy with binoculars.  It looked like the Binocs were pointed directly across the stadium.

 

So, was he checking out some babes in a suite or was he trying to steal signs/read lips in the Bengals coaches’ booth?

Idk who the guy is by name, but it is likely an offense quality control staffer looking at how they’re matching personnel or something along those lines

You nailed it with your last bit.   Hes a coaching assistant who watches the opposing sidelines to try and get real time intelligence on signals or tendencies.

The guy with the binoculars is charged with keeping an eye on the Niagara Falls skyline.  If he sees it, he tells the director that the obligatory shot of the Falls is a 'go'.

Used to be players and coaches.  Now it's twenty something young women.

Dennis Lock, who's photo doesn't appear on the team website near as I can tell, is "Vice President of Football Research".

 

Maybe you spotted Cole Jacobson, football analytics guy late of the University of Pennsylvania, who is a "Football Research Assistant" for the Bills?

I'd like to know how much the Bills invest in scouting their next opponent. If I were them, I'd put a whole squad on prepping for games down the road, especially important ones. I'd hire a dedicated expert on every divisional opponent studying tendencies, even monitoring fan forums like this. I'd also have a working group, not just one person, on quality control, studying the Bills patterns as much or more than the opponent will. The personnel needn't all be top people; a bunch of smart, eager interns could come up with all sorts of valuable intel. Sometimes I think this forum knows more than the Bills coaches. 

 

Somehow, I don't think this is happening. My guess is that the team has one or two scouts and one quality-control person. Anyone know for sure?

Maybe here or there folks do pick up on things first, but absolutely ridiculous to believe on average this forum knows more.

This is so accurate by Ridge it is scary.

 

i love the Falls, but it is not the only not think here. Hell, it isn’t even the only geographically beauty of living here.

Yes, and maybe McDermott, too, in the case of Babich and Brady. Babich might turn out to be a terrific coordinator, but it's pretty clear he wasn't ready yet to take over play calling duties. And Brady.... Let's just say I hope he lands a head-coaching job. In that sense, I'm totally in his corner. If he does move on, I really, really hope McDermott looks outside the organization for a replacement. He should be able to attract top candidates.

He is watching the packages coming in on the opposing teams defense and who is warming up.

 

Simple as that. Every team watches it to know what to expect to counter the on the field substitutions.

I'd get some computer science/programming interns to make a program that you can quickly plug in what players are on the field, the down and distance, maybe even the spot of the ball, and it would give you, based on the previous games, what the most logical play the opponent will run.
