Chiefs playoff chances are currently at 15%.

 

There are nine teams above them in the playoff hunt. The Chiefs have lost to 5 of those 9 teams (Broncos, Jags, Bills, Texans, Chargers). They have wins against 2 of those 9 teams (Colts and Ravens). They will play the Chargers and Broncos again.

 

Obviously they would need to win out. But their tie-break scenarios are not great. They also have the least amount of wins in their division and the worst conference record of the teams still in the hunt for the playoffs. Not impossible, but it certainly is not looking very good for them.

There was a sports channel, don't remember which, that played a clip of a bunch of Chiefs fans calling a Chiefs radio station saying that Andy Reid was a problem this season. And all I'm thinking is "why the hell are you complaining? You all should be worshipping the ground he walks on for what he has done for your franchise". Like, I get they are having a down year but come on

I hoped for this last season, but you never know. But now we see it. Kelce, once an unstoppable force and a first-down machine, is now 36, a role player, and very stoppable.

Chris Jones, still makes plays, but is no longer an unblockable terror up the middle. He's good but no longer consistently great.

I'm not saying the Chiefs can't be good or make the playoffs in the next year or two. But the dynasty is over. They are no longer favorites to win it all every year. They will battle for the playoffs now. The 90s Bills are happy (that record run of four-straight SB appearances record should stay intact), the current Bills are happy, and we should be too.

No they aren't... we, as in the Bills, are. And last year I'll throw the ***** ref's into the mix too. We control our own destiny, KC doesn't.

The Bills and KC are both powerful but flawed teams - let it play out.

They need someone else to step up to that true elite level. I'm not sure who that is.... but other than Patrick Mahomes the only other guys on their current roster who I think are elite are Creed Humphrey and Trent McDuffie (but only from the slot.... he is a good to very good corner outside... but he is only an elite guy inside). A center and a nickel corner are not the most impactful spots on the field.

If the Chiefs did indeed miss the playoffs, that would guarantee that the Bills record of appearing in 4 straight Super Bowls would still stand.

In most sims I run this morning KC makes it as a 7th seed. Basically if they beat the Chargers next week they are in good shape, because there are not actually that many wildcard contenders. 

 

They have basically no chance to be better than the #7. In most situations I have the Bills going 2-2 from here it makes them the 6th seed and there is basically a 50/50 chance that is @ Houston (ugh) or @ Jacksonville (bogey team). However, if the Bills go 3-1 they are almost certainly the 5th seed. Then @ Pittsburgh is the most likely but both Baltimore and (unbelievably) Cincy are still alive. I have Cincy as an 8-9 division champ possible. 

 

Even if the Bills win out they cannot beat New England to the division unless New England loses to the Ravens AND one of the Jets / Dolphins which I just don't see.

Yeah NYT says they have about 54% chance if they win out. And it's not impossible, they have 2 relatively easy games on the road (Titans, Raiders) and 2 tough divisional games at home (Broncos, Chargers).

 

If they do win out, I think they actually have more than those 54%, since I am not sure how NYT takes into account Jones injury. Colts probably won't be a factor now. So in such case it comes down to the Chargers either winning W18 @Denver, or winning all other their remaining games. To sum it up, if the Chiefs win out, they get in imo.

 

Given their state of play that's not likely though. But who trusts Chargers not to fold next week at the Arrowhead? And if that happens, things might start to look different.

Agree with the first paragraph, I just said something similar. They need to beat the Chargers and they are still very much in play.

 

As for the Bills, we are NOT ending up 2-2. Not in the December. 3-1 at worst. So it's the Steelers or the Ravens (or like you said the Bengals, which seems crazy but isn't). I always thought it's gonna be Ravens despite Steelers splitting with them, but the way the Ravens are playing it really looks like Pittsburgh. Lamar is not right.
