I've mentioned this phenomenon a few times..........but some people just start worrying about losing a player every time they have a good game.

As Jerry Glanvile famously said........NFL stands for Not For Long.    Performance can drop off quickly.   It's generally better to let things play out.

I said after we signed him, he was going to be a warrior out there for us. I argued with some that he would be fighting through injury that would normally sideline him...like the wrist issue he played through. Guy is on a one year prove it. Not only that but he's a fiery guy, and going for the blah that is playing for the Charger fans where many of their games are overrun with opposing fans to playing in front of our rabid, college like atmosphere would ignite him.

Now that said, he reportedly has a hammy issue now. We will see how it plays out.

At the moment he's getting paid a little better than AJ.  If he'd reup for the same kind of money he's currently making the plays he makes while healthy are worth the time he spends nicked up.

Bosa cost double what Epinessa was brought back for

Given the way our defense has been I think making health a staple for signing someone rules out everyone.  Pretty sure Benford hasn't made it through a playoff run yet and we resigned him.

I don't think Beane will let the most talented player on our defense leave.

The only player to ever have a 10-sack season under McDermott left after a one-year deal, so we'll see.

In the fine print yes.  Actual cap hit this season Bosa is actually cheaper than AJ.  They kick some of Bosa's guaranteed contract down the road because the cap goes up every year.

This is exactly what these guys do

They have one great healthy season when they are about to hit the market, then they never live up to the deal they get

I'd let him walk and take the compensatory pick

I think he's played well for us for the most part and should be retained. How much interest is a injury prone, rotational DE gonna command on the open market? He's making 12.5 right now and will probably see the same next year if he stays.

Yes and Beane has a tendency to go “hired gun” at the position. We saw it with Floyd, Bosa, Smoot, on these 1 year deal vet deals and I imagine he’d be interested in the same kind of thing again.

As they did with Epinessa, and many contracts. Bosa will cost the Bills 7.5 million dollars next year to NOT be on the team. The fine print matters, and when you only look at cap in isolation, it isn’t a true picture of what they’re paying a player on the open market. That’s why I responded to your post. The idea that they cost nearly the same is not accurate IMO.
