I’m not bragging but, this was evident very very early on to a casual fan, I’m sure NFL coaches noticed too:

Yep. I literally made a thread after that game saying the passing game was a problem and got laughed at with about 30 eye rolls lol.

It was so obvious to see. Just had to take off the homer glasses off and look at the film, and not the 3-0 start

Some good film breakdown here…

Your OL is struggling, your HOF QB is getting killed and these are the routes your OC is calling every pass play.

I mean look at all these plays, he has our WR running these 2nd/3rd tier concept routes.

This is just god awful and could of led to Josh getting seriously hurt.

BRADY HAS TO GO

I kind of agree, although perhaps keep him as run game coordinator and find a passing game specialist.

My thoughts are that an offense should be dictating to the defense and not the other way around. Go spread formation and run a hurry up offense to gas those defensive players and run misdirection plays to also wear them out.

The one stinky part of watching from a comfy couch (which I prefer) is that you don’t get to see the whole field.

You don’t get to see what the QB is looking at.

Being at the game, you can. I was there. Where is what I saw:

1) It is tough to describe in words (because people think you’re exaggerating when you’re not) how covered our receiving options were. Texans players were step for step locked in on our receiving options. There were entire series where I don’t think our receivers had an INCH of separation.

2) Allen was watching this unfold and has NO WHERE to throw to 99% of the game, and to make matters worse, he was being pressured non-stop. 28 total pressures, I believe was the final number.

3) What does superman do when he is being pressured and his receivers can’t get open in a normal (or expedited) amount of time? He scrambles to buy them more time to get open.  But by doing so, he gets sacked - deep. Fans who don’t understand what is happening yell “just throw the ball away!” not realizing that this option simply makes it a punt on 4th and 7 instead of a punt on 4th and 20. It also means you don’t have any super hero plays, like his 3rd and 12 scramble. At one point in the game the Texans fans next to us said “there is nothing he can do” … they were right.

4) Brady, for most of the game, kept calling deep crossers, option routes, and traffic beaters. I was pulling my hair out because Allen didn’t have enough time as it was, and Brady had receivers running routes that take 3-5 seconds. On the last 2 drives he finally connected a few neurons and reverted to a shorter route tree and exploited what Houston wasn’t covering (the flats and quick hitters). Magically the offense starting moving the ball.

5) Last thing: I think defenses have figured out Brady’s progression scheme. They seem to be leaving coverage after Allen checks off an option in his progression. This sometimes makes an option look open but Allen is no longer looking at them so it doesn’t matter.

You will see this when the ALL-22 comes out. It was very frustrating.

So the only question I have is…HOW CAN THIS BE TRUE AND THE COACHES CAN’T SEE IT?  You’re essentially telling us that Brady and McDermott are complete idiots.

Is that what you believe?

Yep! That’s what I believe. 👍

If they are, that’s a huge problem.  I don’t think it’s that simple.

I think that the coaches see it but can't do anything about it due to the lack of talent at WR. There is nothing they can do about it at this point in the season. If the Waddle stuff at the trade deadline was true then Josh Allen has every right to be livid.

Check the video that Einstein and Alpha posted in this thread and on this page with Emmanuel Acho breaking down the routes and protection

It basically confirms what @Einstein saw

Yep. Stupid. #1 this yr vs. next blew it. Josh is also taking a freakin pounding that’s just not going to work out

You know Mrs Allen was on her phone text screaming about the mgt. She’s not going to let Josh get killed for long

Maybe Mrs. Allen can convince Myles Garrett and TJ Watt not to hit him too hard since our GM doesn't seem to care.

Man, back then we were asking for a steady WR2 to compliment Diggs.  Now we're at the point where we're begging for somebody, anybody who can just get open.

And we have a GM who was basically telling people in the offseason to stop complaining.  By mid-season he's contemplating parting ways with 1st round picks because he knows he was wrong and here we are.

I’ve been banging on the table for years for better WRs.  I can’t say anymore- because Simon does not allow me to discuss WRs

Given that he has to work with what we have for now, first priority for Brady as the OC should be to protect the franchise - Josh.  Against a defense like Houston or Cleveland, do that first and then go from there. That can be extra blockers, quick passes, moving the pocket, misdirection, leaking the TE as a target, or running the ball more. Brady failed miserably at that and Josh was beat up. If Josh gets knocked out with an injury due to his stupidity, like we watched in Houston, the season and maybe more is done.

There’s nothing the coaches can do about the WR’s. Beane did not sign/trade for any high quality WR’s in the offseason and he didnt do so at the deadline either.

As for the play calls and route trees, yes - I do not think Brady is a good play caller. I was saying it all last year too while we were scoring a lot of points. @GunnerBill and I discussed how much I disliked his play calling because I foresaw how it would stop working against good teams and how he calls the same plays every week. He is utterly predictable. As for McDermott, It’s truly inexplicable how he continues to allow it to happen.

But if you don’t want to believe me, perhaps you will believe a former NFL wide receiver who echoes exactly what I said.
