Mack Hollins has made himself a nice chunk of money as a career WR4/5 guy and is serviceable (not good, but serviceable) when pressed into duty for more than that.  Keon has the opportunity to still make generational wealth if he accepts that role, and could still have a much higher ceiling.

 

Or he can flame out of the league.

Beane could have saved himself a lot of criticism if he had taken another WR with that 3rd round pick, Troy Franklin being the obvious name. Not that Franklin looks like a superstar right now but in a bad passing offense he's on pace for about 800 yards. That's legit WR production.

 

The optics look so different in that scenario. Beane doesn't fully believe in any of the WRs available to him at the end of the 1st round so he trades down and takes two WRs to double his chances. It's like when Elam busted but we got Benford out of that class so the 1st round whiff doesn't matter as much. Beane instead took DeWayne Carter with that 3rd round pick which makes the whole fiasco look twice as bad.

 

If Beane is retained next year I honestly do expect him to go all in on finding a true WR1 through the trade market. He has basically no choice because of the spotlight on that room right now, especially with the ridiculous WGR rant and the buzz around the failed Waddle trade. It just sucks that it will have taken the worst case scenario coming to fruition for him to finally learn his lesson, and as a result we wasted a season where the AFC was weaker than ever.

Yeah but tough for a guy drafted that high to accept in year 2.  Hollins was a 4th round pick, so much easier for him to understand he'll need to play ST and wasn't drafted top be a starter right away.

Not for nothing, but if the team was so ready to be done with Keon over this, why didn’t they just move him at a the trade deadline? 
 

There are teams who liked him in the draft and likely think he just doesn’t fit with Allen or is miscast outside. 
 

Im guessing they had to see Gabe get right and Keon was the insurance plan if he couldn’t?

I think everyone inside the league knows about Keon.  Stories like this get around.

You probably wouldn't get much but as you said, if Gabe or Shavers didn't work out, they would still need Keon.

So I assume.  The question was with whom to replace him.  Absent an upgrade I suppose it was worth having him

here.  Now that Gabe is contributing, I see no reason Keon gets a jersey absent multiple injuries at that position. 
 

As an aside, another good night by Gabe might make one wonder if he is one of the more unique FAs in NFL history.  Easily the best WR upgrade on the market late in a year, when injuries start to hit, healthy, would be contributing and on a roster, yet free to leave at any time.  A good game

might get him a nice contract now if he’s so inclined.  Food for thought.

I think another good game by Gabe gets him signed to the 53 or an agreement that happens in two weeks. 
 

A good season by Gabe likely means Bills/Gabe work out a deal for next year. 
 

 

He made some money in Jax and I think he just wants to play where he’s comfortable.. which is here, with JA. 
 

Id be shocked if he stays healthy and plays well, then isn’t on our roster next year.
