I’m pretty confident that Rashid Shaheed and Adonai Mitchell were available at the trade deadline, and neither was in the AFCE…

Neither are difference makers in the way Waddle is.

9 times out of 10, I'd feel better about the draft if Beane didn't have a 3rd round pick... so that's kind of wash. I'm also seeing some speculation that Miami wanted more than a 1st and 3rd to trade Waddle within the division. So, who knows.

So Waddle or bust?  I think Shaheed is a difference-maker on the Bills. I think he’ll put up big numbers in Seattle.

Im pretty sure you just named two overrated players.  The Bills were looking for a #1 not a #3.

Both would have been major upgrades…

Dang… Beane had the right idea.

Bills needed to swing for a difference maker and Waddle would’ve been that.

Other guys were simply upgrades and I don’t know that an upgrade is the difference between this team winning and losing.

If we were going to give up draft capital, it was go all in or stand pat.

So frustrating that the Dolphins wouldn’t trade within division.   Have fun with Waddle, wasting his prime years in a rebuild I guess.

100% fair. I know he was in on others too. I blame him for the WR room but not this trade deadline. He backed himself into a corner and couldn’t get out.

If he was that intent on acquiring a WR and the 1st and 3rd as reported were accurate, then I also hope he tried to blow teams away with an offer in the weeks leading up to the deadline to avoid it coming down to that. If he hadn’t recognized it by then, the Pats and Falcons games should have made it crystal clear to him that he ###### up. It’s beyond absurd that this hasn’t been addressed by now and our hopes of addressing it this season rely on Gabe Davis coming back and being the best version of himself, which he couldn’t achieve consistently enough for the Bills to see fit to extend him in the first place.

So he made a great offer for Waddle but they didn’t want to trade in division.  Meanwhile check the league stats for offense.

Check the league stats for WR production and ask yourself what’s going to happen in the playoffs when elite teams can actually limit our running game.

We get this same tired rationale all the time from folks.  Let’s take a team like the Chiefs.  We could say what will happen when teams take away Kelsey.  You can say this for any team in the league.

What will we do?  We’ll either load up the O line and batter teams into submission on the run.  Or we’ll use the 3 TEs.  Or we’ll get throws to Shakir.  Or Palmer.  Or whatever Brady cooks up.

Why assume other teams can slow down the #1 offense in the league in yards/game?

Story is not true. Beane has friends in the media to drop “he’s trying” for him

🤔

Not that I think it’s true….. but I did think it.

This thread feels like your buddy telling you about the knockout he almost hooked up with….. but she went home. Somewhere in that moral victory/ego self stroking.

Williams would have been the score imo……Waddle, not so much. And, not because he wouldn’t have helped but not to the tune of late first round +. Also, we still don’t know how much of this is on Brady and his inability to scheme vs McD keeping him on a leash.

I don't think so. Not the way Brady uses receivers. I think the problem is much more that Brady doesn't optimize the WR talent we already have than he needs more talent.

Maybe it’s just me but Jalen Waddle just doesn’t strike me as a #1 WR.

it’s not you. The media narrative about these players around the trade deadline seems to overinflate everyone’s value.

imagine if a team traded a 1st for waddle before the season began. We all would be laughing about it.

After they freed up the space and nothing happened, this was my assumption. Either of those guys would have been massive additions.

I had heard that he was in on BTJ too. I do not know the comp there though.

You’re spot on. The neglect and arrogance with how the WRs have been handled is wild. He doubled down this summer which was insane.

They need Palmer to come back healthy. He’s a role player and the best of that group. I’d use Moore as the other and try to get him more targets. At least those 2 get open some. It’s not perfect but that, along with a role for Gabe, is better than it’s been. They need to try to glue it together for the next 4 months.

Kind of odd if true...which I will assume since we have some legit sources reporting it

Beane has been steadfast that the Bills did not need WR help, and there were other players available that would have been a similar upgrade as Waddle would have been. Olave is a superior player than Waddle, so why wasn't the same offer the Fins rejected given to the Saints?

I would've probably pulled the trigger for Waddle if the Fins would have done it, but I have a feeling he would not live up to being a number one on this team

I gotta be honest - as a Bills fan, I've never sat down to watch a Buffalo/Miami game and thought, "Man, I hope Waddle doesn't kill us today."

Tyreek Hill? Sure. But not Waddle.

Right. I mean, Waddle is a good, injury prone player. He just has #2 written all over him. A player we could certainly use but a #1 for him is a steep price, IMO. The problem is he would be our #1. I believe we need better.

If Beane's hill to die on was that he would give up a 2027 1st but not a 2026 first, and that is ultimately what prevented it from getting done, I think I have a problem with that.
