Greg Cosell is one of the great football minds.  He is a master of breaking tape, studying players, and offenses.  Go to 5:40 of this, and Cosell breaks down what’s wrong with Brady’s cute system.  Bills D is ultra easy to defend, no one is scared

Well, we will see tomorrow if the Bills offense can get to scoring 30+ like they did the first four games this season, versus struggling for 3 games in a row.  I think there’s some reactionary/panic at the moment because of the two poor showings.  I also question how much of this less than dynamic offense is a function of personnel.  Brady can only work with the players that Beane gets him, and I’d continue to argue Brady has generally been doing a solid job w the tools he’s been given.

Scoring a franchise-record in points last season wasn’t good enough for you?

A 10-1 turnover ratio was instrumental in that metric.  See what it looks like now that there’s been a regression to the mean?

Brady and the in-game offensive coaching is my concern.

So far on the season it’s as follows:

vs Ravens: 12,  8 converted to points (5 TD / 3 FG)

@ Jets: 11, 6 converted (3 / 3)

vs Dolphins: 9, 5 converted (4 TD / 1 FG)

vs Saints: 11, 5 converted (4 TD / 1 FG)

vs Patriots: 10, 4 converted (3 TD / 1 FG)

@ Falcons: 11, 2 converted (2 TD)

64 drives, 30 converted to points. 46% of drives resulted in points.

Since Baltimore 22 out of 52 (42%)

Since the Saints 6 out of 21 (28%)

Last two games have had 3 turnovers each game (one being on downs)

Since Baltimore the Bills have had 10 opening half drives and converted 9 of them into points. The exclusion being the fumble in the Patriots game.

There’s clearly an in game problem of putting points in the board outside that time period. 13 of 42 drives (30%)…

If that continues and the offense continues to sputter it might be best for Brady to go elsewhere.

Did you hear what Greg had to say?  Greg was trying to be nice, but he’s not impressed.

The Bills Offense has fundamental flaws that need to be corrected.  The NFL is a copycat league. Opponents have been overloading one side,  cage rushing, spy in the middle- Josh has no where to go.  And he’s taking a beating.  And he’s not smiling anymore.  Joe Brady had no answers.  Josh has been getting hit over and over.  No answers from Joe.  Bills D gets run over in the first half, Bobby makes adjustments.  2nd half Bills D plays good, just about every game.  Joe has yet to make an adjustment.  He’s had two weeks- let’s see if Joe has made an adjustment yet.

I think the sweep play that keeps failing is some heinous blind spot but I don’t think he’s a bad OC

Yea, I listened to Greg Cosell like you requested. I think there’s a reactionary element going on right now because the Bills haven’t scored 30+ in two straight games.  Cosell also doesn’t comment on the offensive weapons that Brady is working with, which I would argue could be contributing to the concepts being used.  I agree the performance against Atlanta was about as bad as it’s looked, it was as if the offense had never seen a blitz in its life.  We will see more tomorrow.

im really not confident that McDermott isn’t clipping Brady’s wings some

and we know factually that beane has handcuffed him at wr.

At this crossroads, I’m confident that Brady has concepts like deep digs. Are you confident we have the talent and desire to play more vertically?

So if you were running the show, you would have gotten rid of Brady at some point already, and/or not hired him as OC at all?  Just want to make sure I understand what you’re saying.

Penn State insider published story.  Brady’s name has been floated around the last few weeks for the Penn State opening.  Rumor is that Brady was getting pushed by Terry Pegula.  As a board of trustees member Pegula has some say.  I thought this is interesting with respect to the Bills.  Mcdermott doesn’t seem as bullet proof.  Without Ben Johnson Brady is likely the next hot OC in football.  He is getting mixed reviews currently, but if Buffalo moved on from Mcdermott it seems Brady would be Pegula’s preferred choice.  I haven’t given much thought about that scenario but it doesn’t seem far fetched.

Sean Fitz is a well respected PSU reporter.

Having said that, the notion that Pegula (PSU grad and major donor) is pushing for PSU to hire Bradybas next HC makes no sense to me, on several levels.

1) Brady hasn’t been involve in college football for 6 yrs. A lot has changed in that time.
2) Brady has never been acHC at any level.
3) PSU fans have been complaining about their current OC being too cute, and having no downfield passing game. Ring any bells?

4)  bills are still among Super Bowl favorites this year. Who ever heard of an owner trying to replace his OC in the middle of a Super Bowl run?  Bills don’t need a distraction.

This is where I am at.

I think it's more personnel than scheme/playcalling. Can't make chicken salad out of chicken you know what.

Ravens did it in 2012 and won a SB.

Absolutely.  It’s very clear that Brady is not good enough.

You know, after the Bills failed so many times running the same play in short yardage against the Chiefs, I was sure, SURE, that Brady would have spent all offseason scouring effective short yardage plays so that he’d have a much bigger treasure chest to pull from when they’re again in those situations. Well, his short yardage plays this year are worse than last year; we don’t even run the tush push anymore. I’m a bit disappointed in him as a coordinator but do feel it’s less for the Bills to have to rebuild if he’s promoted to HC. The offense can rebound, the defense I feel never will under the current scheme.

The Fun Fact is I don’t think Brady ever called plays in college or the pros.  He has zero experience calling plays before becoming Bills Offensive Coordinator.

He was the OC for the Panthers but got fired.

Strange that the Panthers were smart enough to fire him but the Bills aren't

Cosell mentioned that WR who cant separate dont do well in man, but all should be able to beat a zone by scheme.  You attack zones vertically and horizontally.  You find vulnerabilities in zone and attack.  Thats football 101.  Bills dont do that.  Bills have not done a deep dig in years.  Lions do every game.  Scheme should beat zones

During the Cam years, 100% they were a team you would strive for some semblance of if you’re a middle of the pack feeding team in the league.

For me, the question at this point is, whether Brady is completely his own man, or does his play calling reflect Sean McDermotts philosophical biases?

We are on our 4th OC since McDermott has been here.  He definitely puts his two cents in.  He would butt heads with Daboll about having more balance in his play calling.

I think I’d be pretty good with Brady going somewhere else. Boring offense, Allen isn’t a big passing weapon, can’t get WR into the offense.

Lets see our offense post bye.

Teams go through rough stretches.

Im also not judging Brady with this WR crew.  Main gripe, is just not involving our RBs in the pass game.  Thats very confusing, given Tys success and thats a big positive of Cooks.

Im expecting we see alot of this tomorrow.  Horn going to lock up Keon, expect more targets funneled to Shakir and the running backs.  Need to get ahead of sticks more often, 2nd and 4...3rd and shorts.

Too many unsuccessful 1st and 2nd down plays.
