Here are some rules I think are dumb and that should be changed:

1. After a missed FG, why is the ball spotted at the point of the kick instead of the previous line of scrimmage?  The team not only misses the FG but also effectively gets penalized 7 yards.  I say change this rule.

2. When a team gets flagged for delay of game, why not give them the option to use a timeout to avoid the 5 yard penalty?  It would make for some interesting coaching decisions.

3. In victory formation, the QB should not be charged with a -2 yard rushing attempt.  It should be "team yardage" or something like that. I saw a game the other day where the backup QB was pushing forward to get back to the LOS on each kneel-down, which is just dumb and dangerous, but he apparently didn't want the negative rushing yardage.

There, I said it.  Now back to ragging on Beane and McDermott and Brady.

How about a kickoff rule that essentially guarantees that the drive starts at the 35 combined with allowing the kickers to bring their own worn-in balls to the game?

A couple of first downs pretty much means three points now.

On the other hand, a controversial rule I love is that if you fumble out of the endzone while trying to score a TD, the other team gets it as a touchback.

I hate the victory formation even more when the QB back pedals slowly to kill time then kneels of you get close.

should be a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty… same with a QB running to the sideline with intent to go OOB then  turning upfield, or intending to slide then continuing to run

1. Anything that disincentivizes kicking, I'm all for. So I like this rule.

2. Not a bad idea. Also, related to this, the "half the distance to the goal line" penalties are stupid. If an offense false starts at their own 1, the first down marker should move forward 5 yards. Moving back half a yard is meaningless.

3. Sounds like someone had a frustrating fantasy football week..

I would support this.

Same with holds and personal fouls?

Ya, definitely. A penalty for half a yard is not punitive in any meaningful way. All penalties when they reach the "half the distance.." area should change to moving the first down line forward by the penalty yardage amount.

Agreed on #1 for sure! Especially with the shorter fields we're now seeing from the kickoff rule changes.

Yep. Two first downs and the offense is in a good kicker's FG range. Go all the way back to the OLD rules and put touchbacks at the 20. Make teams earn points. Also, opening kick-offs have lost all their ceremonial drama with a bunch of dudes standing still.

I hate the clock running after penalties. Each down should have a maximum of running only the play clock. Seen games where a team has multiple delay of games or false starts and like 2 minutes comes off the clock with only one actual play being run.

How about a rule preventing the refs from calling phantom holding calls on the Bills in the Patriots game?

Or BS DPI calls like the one against Tre?  I'm sure there would be downsides, but teams should be able to use challenge flag (maybe once per game, and included in current total of red flags) to challenge a penalty.  A panel of 3 people (in NY or somewhere) would have 3-4 minutes to review all footage and make a final decision.  Something like that.  And if refs knew they could be challenged, it would incentivize them not to make ridiculous calls.  Just my 2 cents.

The soccer offside rule is a joke! I know, I know, old line soccer people don't like it criticized. I hate to see players winning with speed to get open and the defender steps up to put him Offside. Oh wait was this american football?

Offensive holding needs to be five yards. Ten yards is too much for a penalty that occurs on pretty much every snap, and the refs can call at any time.

the whole PI at the end of the half that goes half the distance when time is running out... seems like an incentive to take a penalty... like Ball is at the 6 with 9 seconds left play runs you take a PI on purpose now its at the 3 with 4 seconds...  I would like to see a half the distance and an untimed down (if they want) given to the offense...  Don't like the taking a penalty being a good option...  SO maybe if you take a PI or DH in the last 30 seconds... or minute the team gets half the distance or an untimed down.

It took me a minute to digest what you are saying, but yeah, I like that idea.

an injury TO forced to be taken under 2 minutes is proof the league doesn't care about safety.

get rid of it for the first half entirely. then for the end of the game, give the option to take the TO or not let the injured player be able to return to the game only if that player was a starter of the game... make it so if two back to back injuries occur to stop the clock the team is forced to take a TO and get a penalty of 5 yards...OR take the TO.  If a 3rd injury happens on the same drive and it's on the defense the offense gets a 15 yard and 1st down call for personal foul... or if on defense the offense loses a down and 15 yards with a 10 second run off.

The rule that there is no penalty for a horse collar on a QB in the pocket.

With as much as they try to protect the QBs, this one blows my mind.

I'm not sure if I'm for or against the rule, just odd that they specifically made that NOT a penalty.
