Plausible X/#1 receiver trade candidates — are there any?

While I don't think you're wrong about how speed would help open up the short and intermediate areas, I do think intentionally calling those deep routes and taking low-percentage shots with what we already have at WR would also help keep defenses off balance.  

The Bills need to be aggressive and assertive with these calls.  Literally telegraph your intention to attack deep (even in pre-game pressers).  Don't ever underestimate how quickly NFL defensive coordinators will start to play conservatively just to stop the threat of the big play.  

Then combine that with your offensive line and running game prowess, and mix in some play action passes with at least one deep route.   Get the defense thinking "gotta defend deep... but wait, also gotta defend the run.  Crap, they're running.  *runs to LOS* OH NOOOO IT'S PLAY ACTION AND KINCAID IS BEHIND ME IN THE MIDDLE IDK WHAT'S EVEN HAPPENINGGGG!"

Really, all it would take is to have Josh throw a few passes deep, and if he connects with one, it would scare the bejesus out of the defense and get them to start dropping deep and back off the run game. Seems like that would open up the offense even if they are low-percentage pass plays.

 

When was the last time Josh went deep on a pass play, and he normally has time in the pocket to throw deep?

 

We also know that Curtis Samuel can run a 4.31, Moore a 4.35, and Shakir a 4.43. More than enough speed to break away. It's all about how the Buffalo offense is schemed and set up.

Strong disagree. 

 

Once they realize it was a fluke and he isn't able to connect like that for the rest of the game going forward, it's over. 

 

Statistically speaking, even these dog water receivers we have will connect on a deep play here and there. We are absolutely hosed if Beane doesn't find a way to bring in a WR better than the ones we currently have. It sucks, but that's just the reality. Josh knows the quality of the receiving corps he is working with and it's clear that it's impacting him psychologically. 

 

If the offense sputters to start the game this week, don't be suprised if we see the wheels come off even more catastrophically than the Atlanta game.

Jon Brown + Josh was so lethal for the intermediate stuff. 20-25 yard chunk plays that got msde with the ease of a 5yd completion. Yes! 

 

The deep stuff is cherry on top. We'll need to hit a few to get the full respect... but its a guarantee to back defenders away from the line,as well

As have to defend to the sidelines, not just between the hashes.

 

 

The synergistic effect it would have is immeasurable and plays into the best talents we have on the team.

 

-cooks life easier, and more productive in run game.

 

-cook in space more on his receptions, always a threat for house call

 

-Shakir could start seeing REALLLLL volume. We need a volume guy desperately. That was our "run game" aka chain mover in 2021.

 

-Kincaid sees a much less crowded route tree

My left field thought is Rashod Bateman. 

 

I am unsure whether he is a plausable number one, the three things that I like the most is that he is 25, he has been extended by Baltimore (three years $36.75M) and the Ravens might considering trading him at 1 and 5.

 

I haven't looked into the deeper mathematics of it all.

Bateman, 25, has gone from being an underachieving 2021 first-round pick to the best deep threat for the NFL's No. 1 offense in 2024. He was the only player in the NFL last season to average over 16 yards per reception and catch at least nine touchdown passes.

His contract is manageable this year and next. Worry about 2027 later.

9 TD's is a real anomaly as every other season he had only 1 or 2.  The rest of his stats look that way too.  Doesnt mean im out on him.  Wonder wtf was so different last year than every other year? Huge deviation... like astronomical.  LOL was it only because he was fighting for contract, cause it wouldnt shock me and what a lazy bag of **** hahah

But back to your premise if we get Olave I want another WR, too.

 

Ridley and Olave - sending Samuel or Davis or someone else young would be fine - is what i would take.

I'm starting to really like Ty Simpson's game at Alabama.  I think he'll be the next Brady and I could be talked into a trade for a couple of 1st round picks from a bottom feeder org.  Even the Jets & Dolphins would be a consideration.  Reset the 4-5 year window with a true pocket passer that won't consistently pass up open receivers in crunch time (see the last offensive plays from 2024 (Shakir) and 2023 (Diggs)).

 

For all of Josh's strengths, he gets tunnel vision at the wrong times.
