But again why not to the left?

Because rushing from the blindside also possibly allows for a sack.  Rush right at him from where he can fully see it gives more time to fully react and possibly throwing to a quick out or hot read.

Yeah, McDermott can blame whomever he wants, but the fact of the matter is that the same flaws we're seeing this season were issues in past years with completely different rosters and coordinators. He's the common denominator.

Why won't McDermott explain the fact that he keeps on trotting Tre White out there knowing that he can't play the position at a high level anymore?

I know the game pretty well.  That said, I had no clue Landon Jackson was even up for the game.  So I guess theres that,.

Same...didn't have a chance to check and see who was active for the game and never knew Jackson was even in the game.

One of the ***** things about those uniforms is that it's hard sometimes to see the player number. I think the TV guys even commented on that at the beginning of the game.

I thought this was interesting today.  Sal made a good point so I put the two clips together with the play they are talking about.   I wonder if McDermott was talking about Jackson or if it was someone else....honestly who else though?  This must be Sean's way of calling out young players.

Quick note for those of you who are so far advanced in your football knowledge as opposed us fat losers living in our mom's basement playing maddenwho don't watch the nfl, you already knew about this play and what happened right so spare me your personal insults.

This wasnt the only one.  I dont know how many of hhesexwere designed roll outs you his throwing side vs pressure forcing him that way. There was not that containment on that side.

That is why they should have reversed the pressure coming from his preferred D ide to roll forcing him to try and throw from the other side.

Definitely calling out either Landon or Bernard on that specific play.  We do tend run more contain/spy with LBs, but maybe a different look here?  Confusion either way, which reflects poorly on player/prep.

I will say, they adjusted in 4th qtr and used Shaq as the spy.  Flushed the qb out and Shaq scrapes and makes the sack.

I think we got too cute last night, as Coach said himself...on both sides of the ball.  Confusion, out of position, penalties, turnovers--- poor execution and coaching.  Beane hasn't helped either, when you see Gonzales and Davis lock up 1-1 on our boundary receivers all night and shut them down.  Then you can funnel coverage to the middle and drop a safety for the run....takes away 2 of our strengths.

sure but given the choice i think id rather move Maye to his left (iirc the one time he had to throw moving left he skipped the throw off the turf) than take a chance of sack vs him escaping right where he was killing us

Actually, to play Madden well, you have to read defenses and call audibles and hot routes based on coverages. You also have to shift protection to account for incoming blitzers.

People love to bash the game, but it does do a pretty good job of teaching you football.

Sal always tries to paint a picture that it’s somehow the fans fault when Coaches and players don’t execute.

Oh, well fans were complaining about the lack of passing down the field and this is what happens.

Yes, the fans did that! Totally!

that is a weird thing to take away from the video and what he and mcdermott said.

Come on. They were damn good in the first half. Not in the second, unfortunately. After the break, Maye really had his way.

Just a bad game.

They were better against the run and actually stopped on 3rd down several times That is positive. But

1. the soft zone where a guy is 5 yards open and the dbs are rooted to the spot and not moving to where the ball is going was idiotic. When Hyde, Poyer, Tre and Milano were in their prime this is how we got turnovers or separated  the receiver from the ball. The zone defense is terrible with this personnel and simply does not work. Mostly on the coaches but partly on the players.

2. The inability of Bills Blitzers to keep Maye hemmed in and when they were rushing him not close quick enough to make the sack, hit him and affect the throw and not jumping with hands up to either knock the ball down or unsight the receiver. Its been at least 2 solid years of inconsistent play in this area and last night was one of the worst examples

3. The missed tackles. There was a bunch last night but the Shaq miss on Diggs was a game loser that allowed the Pats a first down. I'm not sure how pro players cant tackle. I have no idea how they fix that? fundamentals somehow missing.

It seemed like a couple of positives for the Bills last night then a lot of regression

A coach can either:

Coach to his players and talent

Coach his players and his talent

McDermott is doing square pegs to round holes and expecting triangles.

@Coach Tuesdaysaid it

"The entire offensive structure is designed to protect the defense from having to be on the field. The entire draft and free agent approach is designed to protect the defense."

This defense isn't getting the results it need time and time again.

So a coach calls a big risk blitz on a guy who has broke contain all night?

It’s designed to do that because McD knows this team has very little talent on the defensive roster.

Yeah, it’s not wrong, but you’re blaming the wrong guy

I don't want to blame anyone. It's a systemic issue from player acquisition, player analysis, etc.

It’s tough to judge. You could take the point of view that McDermott had his best defenses when he still had pre-Bean talent on it, so that would make it Bean’s fault. On the other hand, it could be that the NFL has passed McDermott’s scheme by and he’s never adjusted. Who knows?

Our McDermott defenses stopped being great around 2020.

We all know, when. It was about 13 seconds away from 2021
