Not exactly. The Bills defended the play well. They didn't bite on a fake handoff to Stevenson, who had motioned in from the WR position. Daquon blew that play the heck up, and drove Maye backwards. He threw the ball falling down backwards. It was all arm.

 

Here is what Maye threw to. DIggs found a spot in the zone and just hung out there. As Maye scrambles, Diggs comes back to the ball. Shaq Thompson was near him, but takes a poor angle if you want to blame a Bills player, but that was a great play by Maye.

That is more insidious topic of discussion.  There is no way you are going to eliminate that except if said referees are eventually called to the carpet for those errors of judgment and somehow made accountable. After the horse has left the barn though and games were impacted

 

I don't know what accountability officials are held to for performance in games wether Good OR Bad. I'll google it. Most highly rated crews are awarded the super  bowls.

Watching it live I thought he was down but all the replays I saw looked like he threw it before his knee was down. 

 

The replay angles were not very good so I can't say it was conclusive but there was absolutely not enough to overturn it.

On the desperation pass play where Josh threw the ball a bit too deep in the end zone to be caught, it was probably not defensive pass interference.  However, earlier in the route, I thought Davis held and interfered with the route running of Coleman.

Did anyone else try and make prop bets on multiple sites on Cook but the bets got denied. I refreshed and the draft site had Cook locked out of bets. I’ve never seen that before.

I guess more than anything, it was weird that the refs didn't just call it down while live. It seemed so close that you would think that it would have been ruled down and that would have left it to NE to challenge, or from the booth under 2:00. But the refs did absolutely suck (and routinely do) so I guess it's not surprising they let it play out.

I thought the more interesting part of the play was that Maye's eyes were looking at the turf as he was being sacked. I don't think he was trying to pass to Diggs, I think he was looking to ground the ball like he had done a few times before. It was just dumb luck, or fate, that it went straight to Stefon.

The first no call on Maye's blatant grounding was egregious.  Didnt cross the LOS, he wasnt even looking at an eligible receiver, and threw the ball 5 feet in front of him as the sack was imminent.

I saw a really ticky tack holding call on Conner McGovern.  As I noted in another thread, I thought Davis held Coleman during the pass play where Josh Allen overthrew a desperation pass at the end of the game that was just out of reach for Coleman in the end zone not defensive pass interference at the catch point).

Maye wasnt down. By pure luck he release a split second before his knee touched. Was he hoping to hit Diggs? I think he was possibly but I seriously believe he was hoping to just get rid of the ball to avoid the loss and got lucky. What bugs me is that the refs by not calling 2 previous throws by Maye into the ground as intentional grounding made that miracle pass much more possible. Maye probably just thought get rid of the ball as close as I can to Diggs to save the field position. And why not try it as the refs are not going to call me for intentional grounding.  In any case, Daquon should have closed faster and got to the throwing arm quicker to stop the play. The real culprit of the negative play for the Bills though is Shaq Thompson who whiffs on the tackle of Diggs, followed by the 3 Bills (Benford was one) who stand there instead of trying to meet Diggs before the first down line.  Tackling skills and taking the right angle to the ball should be something that a player figures out in high school let alone by the time they turn pro. Yet the Bills and other teams have players that seem to lack this basic skill. Its not like Thompson was tackling AJ Green, DK Metcalf or some other beast of WR. Diggs should have been stopped right there when he caught the ball.

The NFL has overcomplicated its games to a point where the referees play way too big a part in its outcome. 

The Chiefs get away with murder in the secondary - routinely holding, grabbing, illegal contact, etc. Rarely gets called, but I was glad to see them get burned by it last nite.  

 

As for refs playing too big a part, you could tell that Hochuli was showboating and really working to insert himself into the game. No one is paying to watch the Refs.

Is there any technology or even radio frequency that allows one to locate a "chip in the ball" to withing a few inches, works from 100 yards away, and can penetrate at least one human body twice (to get to the chip and then to return?) Seems like it would require a really high frequency and a huge amount of power.

 

I'd love a technically competent person to open a thread on this because I can't imagine that we have this capability anywhere else, but lots of people think it's practical so I'm probably wrong but I don't know why. I also think the advanced stats people would have chipped the ball if it was a thing that could be done.

As for the Hoculi being corrupt. I think he just hates the Bills. p=0.012 is very strong evidence that something is up. We feed kids new medicines on far less. It also is consistent with "the eye test." I rarely complain about refs. There a couple these days that make me wince, but Hoculi and his dad are just in their own awful tier.

 

I can't see him being on the take for the Eagles and against the Bills over the course of years. I think he's just personally biased.
