Surprise surprise, the defense looks the same as it did last year and a historically mistake-free offense is reverting to the mean. That was an easy outcome to predict and the people in charge didn't see it coming. I still think we are just one legit outside WR away from being an offense that can steamroll teams. That to me was the best chance we had of being a powerhouse team. Score 35+ every single game. The goal this year is to be the #1 seed. Don't look now but the Colts have an easy peasy schedule the rest of the year while we have some tough opponents after the bye. They and the Lions look like the best teams in the NFL right now and it's not with dominant defense, it's with offenses that are steamrolling their opponents and running up the score. That's how you win a Super Bowl in the modern era. I'm worried that we blew it in the offseason and I have no reason to think McDermott and Beane are going to learn from their mistake. They still have a chance to rectify it. If they trade for a CB at the deadline I'll know they haven't learned. They need to make a trade at the only position that will make a legit difference to the outcome of games. When Maye got out of the pocket tonight he had his guy working open. Diggs turned back the clock tonight. When Allen got out of the pocket he was holding holding holding the ball and nobody was separating. That is where the biggest room for improvement still exists on the roster and I really hope Beane can see it, his little WGR rant notwithstanding. This team will never win in the playoffs until Terry tells McDermott to either hire a big name defensive cordinator and allow him to have his own defence or replace McDermott. I'm sorry but I'm sick of seeing these small and slow defenders who can't tackle get burned week after week playing this soft zone that has defenders playing not to give up the big play and keep everything in front of them. He has had years to get this right and still we get killed when playing good QB's and that's all you will see and play against come playoff time I agree 100% about getting a WR with speed who can get open. Right now this team has a bunch #2 and #3 receivers, no legit #1 and Beanne said he would replace Diggs and has not done so. I 'm so tired of starting games with gadget plays and seeing so many throws behind the line of scrimmage. We allow bad teams to get their confidence going and then we have to fight until the very end to beat bad teams and last night it cost them Quote

The defense actually played alright in patches, was decent enough for once on 3rd down, but has bigger fundamental issues on the backend. The Pats started to cook once they abandoned the idea that they needed to run it and just let Maye throw the ball against our secondary. Tre is slow as hell, Rapp is ill disciplined, Bishop is still late reading and reacting and Benford.... I honestly don't know.... but he has had one good game out of five and that was the Jets (who suck). Edited 24 minutes ago by GunnerBill 1 Quote

DrBob806 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I'm not happy they lost, but maybe it's a wake up call. The AFC is truly wide open. Bills may still be the favorites but the gap isn't as large as we thought. All the so called contenders are flawed. 1 Quote

Hoping that an injured player that has never played in the NFL a single snap to come in and be a savior is asking for too much. This coaching staff needs to go back to the fundamentals and figure out a way to change things based on the personnel we have. Otherwise, we are going to be cooked come playoffs time. 21 minutes ago, Cray51 said: So we just ignore the offense with their multiple turnovers and poor performance in the first half because the Bills defense is human? the defense did not lose us this game. The offense was the issue I think everyone agrees with it. But the defense allowed their offense to march 90 yards and score a TD right after the INT at the NE 10 yard line. The defense showed no spine on that series especially giving up 3rd and longs again. 1 Quote

The defense isn’t perfect, but if they showed no spine that series, I wonder if the offense (Josh included) were born with a spine at all their first half is one of the worst halves of offensive football I’ve seen from this team in years Quote

I think Josh is starting to feel the pressure that he has to do more to compensate for what the defense isn't doing. He also knows he doesn't have the weapons he truly needs. These two things feed into each other and then you get games like tonight. It's gotta ***** with his head to watch them give up those sideline snipes over and over and know that he's going to have to try to compensate somehow when he gets the ball. Tonight, he couldn't do it. Knox is a very expensive liability, cannot believe what his cap number is Quote

This team really makes me feel it’s a pig with lipstick unfortunately. They have been in control in one game only and could easily be 2-3 just as easily as we have squeaked out being 4-1; nothing has looked easy as it’s never about good complimentary football like Mcd preaches. The d , like Chris sims has stated may be the worst db room in football, is filled with flaws at every level and once again proved it can’t make stops when it really matters. Tonight it just was compounded by a lackluster offensive performance. I watch most of the NFL games , and while we aren’t the Ravens debacle , we don’t play like a championship caliber team with championship TALENT; we win if things go our way and we are facing less talented coaching staffs or teams with QBs that are notably inferior. We are a team that rarely gets sacks , rarely makes quality pass break ups or plays by the dbs ( pats quality dbs broke up the critical pass to Shakir , our dbs get penalties or allow Diggs to toe tap the sidelines ) still struggles with the run , has always held on to players for too long who are injured and keeps going to the same well rather than tapping new talent resources. We have spent so much capital on the defense with essentially no large change in results. At the same time , despite having a once in a lifetime Qb , we go with this everybody eats strategy ( not seen or mimicked by any other franchises that I can see ) while getting it thrown back in our faces as an aging premier receiver demonstrated the flaws in that strategy. This comes down to BEANES roster building strategy. It’s been horrible in my opinion. Never giving Josh enough talent to throw too will be the legend of this era. I agree with you ; the only hope to actually get a championship will come with getting more talent , especially a premier type talent to throw too and help carry the load. Josh holding onto the ball for so long and forcing a throw into double coverage is proof there is no consistently good wr to throw too. Worthy returned to Kcs lineup and the speed has helped KC look like they are yet again in the mix. The problem for the bills tho is even if they trade for talent , like we’ve seen in the past , it takes forever for our coordinators to integrate a new player into the lineup. I know you’re right about needing wr talent , but I just think it’s probably too late to make a difference THIS year. Beane is responsible for this noticeable lack of talent. He and Mcd refuse to go outside of reaching back to their old Carolina past. He has kept the oft injured players to depend on as starters. He let the Bass issue linger until it forced his hand and while that worked out, the wr and db lack of talent has not done well. Beane and Mcd have proven in over 8 years they can’t field a quality defensive product. It’s the cause of the infamous 13 seconds and other debacles. They actually felt after Hairston got hurt badly they could depend on white as a starter ( and don’t look now but our nickel db has looked sluggish and maybe facing decline as well ). This is just a pattern now of poor roster creation by Beane and at this late date I think we will be the same team as in the past. We will beat most teams , but won’t be good enough to get the coveted 1 seed they need for the playoffs. The talent we do have can never stay healthy enough to all be on the field concurrently. I can’t keep believing in Beane. All these issues are similar to things that have happened before. It’s Deja vu. I will hope something changes as we get suspended guys back etc, but this teams season seems limited to me by the same old issues. Why this regime fails to try to surround Josh with more talent at the wr position is just baffling; we need a true wr playmaker. How many times do we have to watch this offense go into lapses , with no way to adjust on the fly as it’s limited by a lack of star power in the wr corp? We don’t have that now and haven’t with this regime who continues to pour everything into the d with the same disappointments recurring. Totally agree with your thoughts and analysis. 1 Quote

He is a one trick jump ball pony. Shakir is great in the slot, but we don't have a boundary wide receiver as good as a 30 plus year old Diggs coming off a torn ACL last season. I know we had limited dollars to acquire a WR for last season and this season, but Samuel and Palmer seem like wasted investments. Secondary has been bad, but I see almost no chance that the Bills try to trade for a CB. That would be an admission by the front office that signing White and drafting Max and Strong was a poor use of available resources this offseason. Linebacker is a big concern now, particularly if Williams' injury is long term and Milano goes on IR. We have no depth at this position. I have said it many times, should've drafted ladd mcconkey. Coupled with Shakir, wr is fixed 1 Quote

DT Jones is a FA so we will need a staring 1T… Milano is a FA so we will need a starting OLB… On top of all that, we still need a #1 WR… It literally feels like Groundhog Day, as this team keeps spinning its tires, and never improving… No wonder Josh said it is no longer superbowl or bust, for him- but rather he said he’s just going out and trying to have fun playing… The resigning of mid tier starters to long term deals at top 10 player money is killing the team. How would you expect to improve while not getting better talent on the field? Not to mention the team is constantly against the cap and has no real game changers outside of Allen and I guess Cook has to be considered one. The years of non-impact players in the draft and resigning all of them has caught up. 1 Quote

We should be fine against London, Egbuka, Evans, Godwin, AJB, Smith, Nicco, Rice, and in a SB that might have Puka and Adams. I watched this all unfold from ten rows up. With the defense prensently constructed we are absolutely cooked. Tre White is washed up. All around me people were screaming “ can someone else please cover this Ahole?! ( Diggs) who else is there? right now no one. This team allay relies too heavily on the offense to bail them out. Well what happens when they play a good defense? what happened last night happens. these receivers cannot get open consistently and Brady ran the ball into the end of the 3rd quarter too much instead of opening the offense 4 wide and letting Josh be Josh. I’ve said it since the beginning of the year. Our defense is a liability on key 3rd downs and cannot get off the field. It cost us the game tonight and we will win nothing this year. We get painfully exposed when we play a halfway decent team. Not sure how they fix it this season at this point but there is no “Window” anymore . This defense is just not good enough. 1 1 Quote
LetzGoBuffalo Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Thank you for mentioning Tre. It was hard to watch his getting abused out there but man we gotta make a change at his slot because he was getting cooked out there. Switch something around and sit Tre on the bench!! He will be beneficial to teach some of the younger guys but keep him off the field. Quote
Mailman Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I knew it was over when we played for a tie game and gave them the ball back with over 2 minutes. This made me hearken back to the Dick Jauron days when he would coach not to lose....and then proceed to lose. Quote
Orlando Buffalo Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago i look at it as we played at a 4 level, NE played at an 8 level, we got the worse of the poor officiating, and we lost by 3 points. I am not worried but if we lay an egg next week I will be worried Quote
