TO 1 was based on ref KC Land not giving Bills opportunity to sub.. like happened to Josh multiple times when he wants the snap.TO 2 was not necessary.

TO 2 there was only 10 guys on the field, and it led to stopping their 2 point conversion. Not necessary?

"Wins are hard to come by" especially when your defense can't tackle, play 7-8 yards off a WR and still can't make a play. I'm still waiting for this amazing defense to take shape from this defensive head coach since 2017, even when it was top 10 did anyone ever feel like it was so good that we could beat a team in the playoffs if Allen had an off game? I sure never did. I always hope that I'm wrong and we can win even in spite of McDermotts terrible scheme but so far we haven't been able to do that.

I still worry it will come down a time pressured drive in the playoffs to win the game and our lack of ability to go down the field will undermine us. What is particularly concerning to me is if anything happens to Cook. Cross everything we have. Because this style doesn't work if Ray Davis and Ty Johnson are your lead backs.

This is my worry, as I have stated many times here. At a minimum, you have to have capable backup to spell Cook, your offensive driving force, and so far the result says nada.

Now I do get it that Beane and McDermott thought Davis should be better than he has showed so far - he showed flashes as a rookie and you expect a jump in production in year 2. But I see a trend now with the older rookies (Kincaid, Davis coming to NFL at age 24), you may get satisfactory result year 1 but not year 2 jump. The optimistic side of me expects that as the season goes along, Davis figures out and overcomes the book that defense have piled based on his rookie season.

I thought they said we had 12 on the field for TO #1

There was somebody hustling off but he made it in plenty of time.

I got the sense Coach called it out of frustration and to make a point to the stripes as much as anything.

1-0 this week. That's all that matters. I'll be glad when we get Oliver, Milano, and Spencer Brown back. I believe they were all sorely missed this week. I am also awaiting PEDynamic duo to make their debuts. Hopefully, they add some juice to this front and also understand disciplined football.

It’s all meaningless until the playoffs , beating the Saints/ Jets doesn’t need celebrations imo. But that’s all it is at the end of the day, if you disagree I’m good with that but I don’t see us winning anything with this HC unless he changes his ways and hire an actual DC who knows what he’s doing again imo.

I often get the impression that McDermott is not completely comfortable in public speaking scenarios where he’s forced to be ‘on stage’.
Facing the media he frequently has nervous itches he has to scratch when fielding questions he may not want to be totally candid with. Addressing the team in post-game there’s a lot of congratulations being punctuated with ‘man’ to put a bow on it.
This isn’t a knock on the coach. Just an observation and belief he’s probably more at ease in one on one situations…man.

Two of the Saints three games prior to this were decided by 7 points or less.   This nonsense narrative that the Bills need to blow everyone out is ridiculous.  Its the NFL.  Its hard to win.  Be glad they are 4-0 and move onto next week.

Yes, it's hard to win, but HOW they play in those wins does matter.

They can't keep letting significantly inferior teams hang around on them. We've seen seasons like this before, and the same posts pop up every time. "A win's a win, so stop complaining."

As I said in another thread, that's fine for week 4. Just stacking wins is good enough for this point in the season.

But that 13-3 record in 2022 didn't mean anything come playoff time. All those issues we saw in those games immediately reared their head in the WC game against the Dolphins, then got them demolished against the Bengals.

And for those that paid attention to HOW they were winning, it wasn't surprising.

Got to say McDermott not a great speech guy. Not very inspiring. Looks uncomfortable talking to the team.

You're not wrong.  But it seems to me great speeches are more of a Hollywood thing than anything else.  I've seen a lot of other coaches give speeches and they're mostly uninspiring too.

As a former soldier, I'm always interested in the speeches military leaders make in Hollywood movies.  I received no big rah-rah speeches before I went into combat from anyone.  Nor did I give one to my soldiers.  We talked all the time.  There was nothing left to say; they were fully prepared, mentally and physically.  After our success (Desert Storm), again there were no big, eloquent victory speeches.  Hollywood gets this stuff wrong.

I think it's similar to football.  McD and the other coaches talk with the players nearly every day, building relationships.  A big halftime or postgame speech just isn't going to accomplish a lot.

It should go without saying that 10 men on the defense is an execution issue by a player or lower level coach, right?

It was an homage to Sean Taylor.  Totally symbolic.  RIP Sean.

I like that he’s started the last few of these out with that slow clap that progresses into a quicker one to fire up the team.

Kinda reminds me of coach Bud Kilmer.

Really like him pointing out the guys that have a great performance or break a franchise record.  And for those who say his speeches are boring, the sustained success speaks for itself.  Also if it’s the flashy speech you want, watch Hard Knocks…he had some pretty good ones in there.

It was Bosa, and "hustling" is not exactly the description I would use - they even commented on it on the broadcast.  The lack of hustle is what caused the TO - he took forever getting off the field which is what precipitated calling it.  The fact that it was 'not needed' was more due to Rattler not being savvy enough to take advantage and hike the ball as Bosa was glacially getting off the field

EDIT - actually they didn't use a TO on this play so ignore :)

Wasn't that a different play where they actually did get called for a 12th man?

Oh you may be right.  My point that Bosa didn't hustle still stands though 😛

Did he take a TO before he gave the speech?

Yes. It was a defensive timeout.

What they showed on the broadcast was that the Bills only had 10 men on field before the TO.  After the TO when the Bills Nader the stop it was 11

That's my understanding too... the timeout was because they only had 10 for the 2 point conversion.

After the timeout, they prevented the 2 point conversion with a full complement of players.

Speaking of. locker room speeches and the slow clap, this might be the greatest one of all time, albeit in cinematic history:

Posters' responses to that speech is a textbook example of the Rashomon Effect:

Quote

The Rashomon effect describes how parties describe an event in a different and contradictory manner, which reflects their subjective interpretation and self-interested advocacy, rather than an objective truth.
