Incredibly contrary to Allen's growing tendency (on repeated display so far this season) of stepping up when there's an early lane (especially through the left side A or B gap) to buy time and to put 2nd and 3rd level defenders in conflict. He did it a TON vs Baltimore to my eye. He's just ELITE at avoiding pocket pressure (while still looking to throw) in ways I don't think we always appreciate fully. The OL is pretty good, but not nearly as good at pass pro as 17 makes them seem.

Or if there's obvious pre-snap pressure coming, he'll do the opposite thing and adjust protections and routes to leave one blitzer/side unblocked and try to stand in there long enough to hit someone behind that vacated area.

Burrow probably does that 2nd thing (standing in and delivering over/through diagnosed pressures, as you detailed) as well or better than Allen, but just isn't as big and durable (historically) as #17, so he pays the price in more impactful ways. I've seen him move dynamically UP into/past the pocket in some games, but it's not really his nature. He's got underrated feet that he should use a little more often against 3 and 4 man pass rushes.

Great post.  Allen is so special, it’s unreal.  Watching him play vs virtually anyone else it’s night and day.  There are guys who do certain things a little bit better, but the only guy out there that’s comparable as a total player is Mahomes and at this point, I genuinely believe Allen is better.

Watching the Bears vs. Vikes the other night made it so clear how lucky we are, two high 1st round QBs and combined, they aren’t half of JA.  You see Stroud, who I thought was going to become THE man after his rookie campaign and he’s just “good”.  Daniels is good, but so far this season hasn’t looked like he’s taking the next step.  Herbert has talent, but has yet to show he is the man when it matters. Burrow is a touch better passer, but injury and lack of wheels is an issue.  That’s basically it, who else is on the same planet?

If this was true, I could definitely see the Bengals cheap asses having this happen to them.

Browning was 4-3 as a starter two years ago.  Here's his game log:  https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BrowJa08/gamelog/2023/

He did well against non-playoff teams and teams resting their starters in Week 18.  Lost against all playoff teams, including getting swept by the wild-card Steelers.

He's a pretty good backup but Cincy will not make the playoffs with him at the helm.

Most importantly, they are now out of the 1-seed race.  They were probably a pretty big underdog in that race, but now they have a 0% chance.

Browning will fall to 4-4 today.  Still no wins against playoff teams or teams not resting their starters.  (And Minnesota, who is pasting Cincy, might not be a playoff team this year).

If the thinking was that Browning is a starter-level backup, let's slow our roll on that.

You can only be outplayed week in and week out for but so long before you have to admit someone is a better player.

Mahomes has really leveled off as teams have figured out how to play them offensively over the last 2 years.

Allen is as or more unstoppable than he has ever been and the offensive numbers back it up.

Well said. Unstoppable is absolutely right. Pedestrian games for Josh are still great games.

You might be right about the Chiefs but you still have to factor all the events that have unfolded regarding their receivers and running backs. If they can draft some offense on par with their starters they’d have a chance to revert to being a dominant team.

That's hysterically funny but also too close to truth for many of us dealing with our health insurance

Turf Toe is no joke.  Thats ruined some players

Yeah, Pete.  Honestly even when he's back, lets be serious...he is NOT going to be "back."

Honestly, if they are 4-9 or something why even risk the guy.

This made me laugh so hard.  I realize it is fiction but we all can relate.
