Mikie2times Posted August 31 Posted August 31 (edited) I understand it’s his first road start and that was a very difficult environment, but I don’t think I recall seeing a QB that inaccurate in the top 10 of college football. Maybe DJ Uiagalelei at times last year or with Clemson? He wasn’t just missing. He was missing by 5 yards. Virtually all routes. Several times he could have made a sandwich looking for a WR. Again, understand Ohio State and on the road. I’m sure he will have some games this year. But not a good start to his season. Edited August 31 by Mikie2times 1 Quote

I never bought the hype I got to see him in HS I mean yeah he's got talent but I never understood the number one overall ranking and all this Heisman hype from really nowhere for your first real true road start that's a tough go... And any chance of winning a Heisman trophy also went out the window this year He realistically could not beat out a dinged up ewers last year.. Steve sarkisian is not playing his second best quarterback lol especially if Arch was the chosen one like they said the one thing I noticed was he did not play a lot of crazy high school competition at Isidore Newman... He was always on Superior ground... Not like 6A Texas ball or 6A Georgia ball Toughest game he faced at isidore and he got smoked Edited August 31 by Buffalo716 1 2 Quote
YoloinOhio Posted August 31 Posted August 31 Matty Patty had him seeing ghosts but I don’t think he’s even going pro this year so he has a lot of time. I didn’t realize though he’s already 21. 2 Quote
NORWOODS FOOT Posted August 31 Posted August 31 His performance, especially contrasted to Julian Sayin’s first start, looked extra not great. 1 Quote

SirAndrew Posted August 31 Posted August 31 I think he’ll end up being a great college player, but those type of performances give me pause about NFL potential. I agree, he didn’t look decisive or accurate. I think we’re seeing a decline in college QB play access the board. It seems the consistent increase of QB talent may have plateaued. Quote
thenorthremembers Posted September 1 Posted September 1 (edited) He's started what 4 games in college? He just played a defense with some serious players, and Super Bowl winning defensive coordinator. I don't think he made the best decision for himself going to a school where he had to sit for two years. The kid has virtually no time on task playing big time college football. But it is what it is now. He will be plenty good enough the next 3 weeks and then he'll have another tough test against Florida. I think he will be fine. Edited September 1 by thenorthremembers Quote
Bockeye Posted September 1 Posted September 1 He definitely does not have the arm to be a NFL QB. He was skipping balls. College QB - maybe? Quote

Buffalo716 Posted September 1 Posted September 1 @Bockeye I also don't think Arch Manning is throwing for 60 touchdowns anytime soon in a collegiate season lol He's got a long way to even be Colt McCoy at Texas... He has the frame he just isn't as big as Peyton and Eli Those guys were thoroughbreds He's more like his grandpa style wise .. I'm more interested to see how he will fair against say Kansas State It is a tough first career road start but for somebody hyped up as generational... It just shows he's not there yet 1 Quote
Willyville Guy Posted September 1 Posted September 1 I think Manning will be fine, but it's a funny stat that he had more TV commercials than completions in the first half. 1 1 1 Quote

Anybody see that former OL from Packers saying he thinks he might have a shoulder injury not being disclosed? I truly don't know if thats true, it makes a ton of sense. He could've just been rattled by the most hostile stadium in sports... but damn he missed and one hopped a ton of easy throws... but also dropped a pretty dime later on in 2nd half. Made me think of that UCL injury (aka Tommy john). Ohtani took a year off, yet was able to knock 40 bombs. Its a weird injury. When Josh hurt his ucl I remember hearing something about the shorter passes being tougher, but the deeper passes put a different strain on the arm and actually felt more comfortable to throw. Am I imagining that, i swear to god I heard him or someone else talking about it after the season. Would seem to make a ton of sense to me. The kids annointed as chosen one and now cant hit a 15yard out route? Characteristics of that injury atleast visually made sense to me 🤷 1 Quote
BarleyNY Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Agree with @YoloinOhio Not a great start, but the kid has time. But the coronation was premature, obviously. Quote
Royale with Cheese Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Something about his delivery is weird. He reminded me of Ryan Nassib. Quote
Jauronimo Posted September 2 Posted September 2 There is minimal velocity on his throws. He is going to get his WRs killed with how long the ball hangs in the air. Quote

Lots of youth football is being played out of the shotgun formation today, which can actually deter some skill sets. Not many young QBs ever took a traditional snap from a center like the old days- that's just one symptom, but it's an important one. 1 Quote

The NFL is almost mostly shotgun now Like 70% of all snaps last year were shotgun.. People like Patrick mahomes never took one snap under center in their college career... The game has definitely just changed Most quarterbacks now are growing up in a spread compared to 25 years ago when they were still playing Wing t or something like that in high school Edited September 3 by Buffalo716 Quote
dpberr Posted September 3 Posted September 3 I don't think Texas had any idea what was coming or from where with OSU's defense. Matt Patricia had the entire offseason to plan for this game, and being a new DC in the college ranks, there wasn't any film on his strategies. Texas got punched in the face, and never recovered. 1 Quote

True, but as you can see there's 30% under center. Lots to get used to if you've never done it, and you have to do it against the best of the best. Quote
