gonzo1105 Posted August 18 Posted August 18 (edited) I usually wouldn’t start a new thread about something like this but with the board on Code Red about our safety depth and the fact that they could use an upgrade over their backups at minimum (Hamlin, Lewis, Forrest etc) I think the possibility of Dugger actually would be something that makes sense. Now I don’t think that the Patriots would trade him to Buffalo unless they were the clear best offer but if the Patriots were to release him I think the Bills would strongly consider him. Word in his draft year was the Bills and McDermott especially loved him as a prospect and was ready to take him before the Patriots surprisingly took him early. Just something to keep an eye on because it could turn out to be a nothing burger Edited August 18 by gonzo1105 2 1 2 Quote
KOKBILLS Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I purposely do not care or follow much about the Patsies, but I did hear he had a terrible 2024 season. I'm sure some folks around here have more in depth analysis. Quote

True Blue Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Dugger is a Strong Safety, we need upgrades at Free Safety 1 Quote

BuffaloBillyG Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Rumor was the Bills liked him coming out in the draft. If he's cut, it wouldn't shock me to see Beane bring him in. In addition to safety, he can play STs and even has some experience as a KR. 9 minutes ago, BullBuchanan said: We need both, but Dugger is worse than what we already have. If PFF is your thing they actually confirm this. PFF scores from last year: Hamlin: 60.2 Rapp: 59 Duggar: 44.3 Again, that's PFF so take it with the normal grain of salt 1 Quote
henry jones Posted August 18 Posted August 18 He didn’t play for Carolina, so he ain’t on Beane’s radar 2 1 Quote

Not to say there isn’t other problems on the team but the ones that are going to cost us points/games going by last year and the moves made are still the secondary. There’s still some decent vets on the market who have a few years left in the tank; Marcus Williams, Von Bell, Justin Simmons and Whitehead for the Safety positions (all are FS except Whitehead who moved between each role on the backend in his career) Might be time to place a call to Asante Samuel Jr., Kendall Fuller or Emmanuel Moseley a call for the CB position if the backups and depth guys put on the same show they did against Chicago again in Tampa. Essentially from what’s reported the play was by Dugger last season, no point giving up assets when there’s guys who have had just as much capability/production in the league and at a cheaper price. If anyone's trading for him, the Pats would have to eat a fair amount of money along with it. Quote
Herc11 Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Don't know much about him, but maybe his play fell off under a new regime? Maybe his skill set doesnt translate to what Vrabel's defense is asking hi to do Quote

He was the guy I think that wanted out of Buffalo because he wasn't in consideration for the starting gig because he got hurt . If I am remembering his name correctly . I thought he would be the starter over Hamlin . Quote
Success Posted August 18 Posted August 18 I think there is a lot of overreaction going on right now. Cole Bishop is just coming back from injury - we don't know what we have in him yet, but it sounds like he just missed an early coverage last night and otherwise didn't play much. He's a high rounder, and we need to let him play. Rapp on the other side is very reliable. 2 Quote

But to put that in perspective, he only logged 191 snaps as opposed to Hamlin's 875 snaps ...so far smaller grading opportunities. 10 minutes ago, sullim4 said: Who else thought these guys were the subject of the thread? Bad Things Posted August 18 Posted August 18 So, we should trade for something that's been sucking?? Quote
sven233 Posted August 18 Posted August 18 He had a bad year last year for sure. But at one time, he showed some talent and does have some physical skills. I'd absolutely look at him if released because I do think he is better than Hamlin and the other depth we have. That said, he hasn't lived up to some of the hype he had coming out. PS. For those saying we need a strong safety and not a free safety....... While that may be true in theory, our defense runs best when we have position-less safeties. When Hyde and Poyer were running things, the brilliant thing about their pairing is that they could both do the same things and we could disguise what we were doing on the back end. Can he play both? I don't know. Haven't watched enough of him week in and week out to know what they have asked him to do. But, if there is one position group I trust McDermott to get the most out of, it is DBs and Safeties. I'd trust their judgement in regards to whether they want to bring him or not as they have a lot more tape on him than I do. Regardless.....I think we are rapidly approaching the point we need to do something whether it's him or someone else. Quote
BananaB Posted August 18 Posted August 18 (edited) At this point anyone coming in still needs 11 months to learn the playbook before they can get on the field Edited August 18 by BananaB 2 Quote
