BillsPride12 Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Bonham would be my personal choice but once you are talking about Bonzo, Peart, Moon it really comes down to preference. They were all legends 1 1 1 Quote

Pete Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Jaki Liebezaint, drummer for German band Can, is one of the greatest drummers of all time. Here is this albums Drums isolated. Jake was known as "The Human Metronome. 1 Quote
Pete Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Idris Muhammad, known as The Funky Drummer, is one of my favorites. Some of the best drummers I have ever heard and seen were street performers using buckets. Amazing 1 Quote

davefan66 Posted August 19 Posted August 19 There are many great drummers. Peart, Bonham, Moon, Stewart Copeland, Buddy Rich…even Ringo…and not necessarily in that order. My top guy? Peart. Technically sound, intricate, dedication. Great lyricist. Was perfect for Rush and loved watching him! As for the remaining guys, all great drummers who were perfect for their respective bands. Again, even Ringo who I’ve been learning to really like. I just feel Neal was a step above. A sleeper that I love watching from back in the day is Joe Morello who played with Brubeck. 1 1 Quote
Bill from NYC Posted August 19 Posted August 19 My favorite is Keith Carlock. The man is beyond great. Jmo. Quote
frostbitmic Posted August 19 Posted August 19 Carl Palmer never gets a mention, I'll give him his. Not bad for being 72 at the time. 2 1 Quote
BillsFan4 Posted August 19 Posted August 19 (edited) There are a lot of truly amazing drummers out there, and I keep discovering more via social media outlets like YouTube. I have a hard time saying any one guy is best. I love Neil Peart. He’s among the best for sure. But personally, there are drummers I’d probably put above him. Like Danny Carey (of Tool). His drum tracks are iconic. As a former percussionist myself, I think Danny Carey’s drum parts are some of the most complex I’ve ever attempted to play. Half the time you can’t even figure out what time signature he’s in. lol If you are into the drums, check out the YouTube channel “drumeo”. They have some awesome videos where they bring in all these different drummers from famous bands and then they have them listen to a bunch of different songs with iconic drum tracks until they find a song the drummer has never heard before. Then they play them the track without the drum part and have them do their own drum part to the song. Then compare. It’s super fun to watch if you are into that kind of stuff. Metal Man Posted August 19 Posted August 19 Can't have a great drummer thread without including Danny Carey. His ability with odd time signatures and polyrhythms is masterful. 3 3 Quote

Greatest drum solo I’ve ever seen. no love for Tommy or the Blink 182 drummer either Travis Barker neither are my own particular taste but still. . Best of anything depends on a lot of things. Your taste. preference etc Quote
