daughter worked there for several summers.  Even after she went away to college they'd give her shifts whenever she came back to town if she wanted them.

I just went to Cape Cod for vacation and it looked exactly like the Cale Cod Creamery (Great Place)

all these fancy boutique ice cream places are great.

I love cale in a salad and cod in a fish fry but it's hard for me to imagine them in a frozen confection.

Their Ice Cream Cakes (I think they call them ice cream pies) are absolutely killer. Fudge and that cookie crumble....mmmmmmmm

That dirt ice cream looked great. now how do I get it 100 miles home still frozen

In case nobody else responded, a simple cooler with ice should do the trick. I have transported ice cream from a creamery in in the suburbs of PA to Washington DC, around 3ish hour drive and it's held up perfectly well. The biggest issue is fighting the desire to eat it in transit.

Pittsford Dairy is a huge draw in the summer months, with lines well out of the front door.

Worth the wait in line for the ice cream, and they sell some amazing gourmet baked goods inside, too including the best biscotti.

If you like ice cream and come to ROC, Abbotts has awesome frozen custard, and Lugia's in Spencerport has ice cream cones served so tall, they could be on the Flintstones lol

I've only been to Pittsford Dairy a handful of times as various Abbott's locations have just always been a lot more convenient and I personally LOVE Abbott's. Pittsford Dairy is excellent ice cream though; compares well to any ice cream I've had in the US.

Now you got me wondering if anyone's ever put kale in ice cream. We're not too far from Gilroy, CA which is the self-dubbed "Garlic Capitol of the World" and they have garlic ice cream for the Garlic Festival... which was resurrected this year for the first time since the shooting back in... 2020?

Anyways, garlic ice cream... haven't tried it yet.

I haven't tried garlic ice cream, but have recently had olive oil ice cream and it was outstanding.

Never been there but everytime I get to Rochester Abbott's is a must stop...crushes Anderson's and outside of some place in Wisconsin near Milwaukee, the best custard I've ever had.

When I was growing up in Irondequoit, the only Abbott's was in Charlotte right by the beach, and in the summer the line was huge. I kind of always thought they were just average.

Pittsford dairy is overrated. Change my mind

How many other places hand make their own ice cream from milk from their own cows? Not many. It's far superior to anything else I've had. What's your point of comparison? Is there something better I should try? For science? 🙂

Totally worth it. As I mentioned in a previous post, they make it themselves from their own dairy cows, with fresh and delicious ingredients. Plus, the building itself and the other baked goods they sell are top notch. I haven't had anything better.

i'm in the same boat.  my kids' school is right down the street, and if i pick them up on a nice friday, i get absolutely harassed about going there.

on a side note, if anyone has the chance...try their egg nog.  holy ***** is it amazing.

Agreed, @teef . I'm convinced their eggnog is 50% nog; 50% liquified crack cocaine.

I grew up in Charlotte and I can remember when an Abbott's cone was 15 cents...I'm sure they're over five bucks now.

Love both Abbott's and Pittsford Dairy ice cream.  Someone opened an Abbott's about 40 miles from us here in Westchester about a decade ago and I made my wife and kids drive there--worth it.

Also once had a conversation with Kim Pegula down here about how Wegmans and Abbott's were two pilgrimage staples of every trip home.

Grew up in ER, so am waiting for Hard Knocks to showcase a midnight beer run to the ER Alcoplex next.....

Every summer in the late 80’s-90’s I’d spend a few weeks in Fairport with my aunt and uncle, and I’ve tried many the local ice cream/custard spots, with Pittsford and Abbott’s being my favorite.  I now live in Northeast Pennsylvania, and when we moved here from California we saw that there was a farm dairy close to our new house.  Just so happens that they serve what I consider to be the finest ice cream I’ve ever had, both in flavor/richness and variety of flavors.  Amazing chocolate milk as well.  So if you ever find yourself in NEPA near Scranton check out Manning’s farm dairy in Dalton…for science of course, haha!
