PoundingDog Posted July 27 Posted July 27 Like the content on DL investment where Beane said "let's take some swings at defenseive line." I think the failure of getting talent there is on OBD's mind. I had to laugh when the question of Beane's son working for the Giants as a scout came up and Beane said "he's fortunate enough to get an interview with Giants." Really? Fortunate? I bet the interview question Schoen had in that interview is "can you tell your dad don't forget me when I'm let go here." Note his son interned in Carolina first and guess who runs Panthers front office there? 1 7 1 Quote

For better or worse, networking opens up doors that hard work cannot. 5 2 Quote

In some instances, and fields, yes. But there are still cases where those who work hard, and keep their heads down, get the recognition and advancement they deserve. 1 2 1 Quote

I get genetics matter for on the field performance so having familial connections is logical. But off the field should seemingly be more open and yet feels just as insular. Barrier to entry is tricky cause it takes years to learn the nuances and the relationship of coaches would get that for free. As football becomes more accessible from video review online I’m excited to see what new approaches people previously unable to learn can bring. 1 1 Quote

Thoughts would be Josh, Edmunds, Eddy, Rousseau, Cook, OCT? Quote

You get recognition from certain individuals, they get promoted and/ switch employers, then offer you higher pay, promotion, etc to move up with them. It’s earned nepotism, but still a result of who you know. Quote

Agree that it was a first or second rounder. With as diligent as they were with Josh, including private jet visits to Wyoming, I’d say there’s no way it’s him. They had to be in unanimous agreement there. If I were to guess, I’d say it was Oliver - a bit of an undersized DT who had a highly publicized spat with his college coach. The pick also didn’t require a trade up. Edited July 27 by Brand J 1 Quote

If you want to try to guess who it could be, you can start by eliminating any first rounders not named Josh Allen. 1 Quote

You know, after I posted that I thought it was Oliver, I got to thinking… there’s not a home run draft pick Beane has hit on - besides Allen - that’s worthy of Terry’s bragging. That said, I’d still be surprised if it was Josh as that’s the one position everyone should be united on. Quote

For pick #30, he’s been productive but he was pretty raw coming out. And it’s not like he’s been terribly underwhelming for his draft position. I would say he’s exceeded expectation for his draft status than Ed has overall. The only alternative if Beane is talking about Eddy after 23. 1 Quote
