There is a misconception that Ruff coaches rough hockey.  Outside of 1 sequence against Ottawa, Ruff's teams were soft to a fault.  Under him, they rapidly moved on from the hardest working team in hockey group and it culminated when the team sat there and hugged it out as Milan Lucic stomped a hole in the franchise

Interesting viewpoint.  All I know is they have guys that are supposed to be stars and leaders of the team and they’re not worth much.  Dahlin and Power are defensemen that don’t play defense, and people talk about Thompson or Tuch as leaders and they don’t do anything to hold guys accountable.

Brutal week or two for Buffalo sports.

 

While I’m not a big hockey fan per se how the Sabres have been handled certainly doesn’t make me optimistic about the Bills.

 

From an outside perspective re hiring Ruff seemed equivalent if the Jets re hired Rex Ryan

Yeah, neither has been good. lol

 

we obviously need them to be our best players to have any chance at a better season. Hopefully they start playing better soon. I really thought we may see Thompson take a step forward (again) this season after playing such an important role for the USA winning gold in that tournament and with the Olympics on the horizon.

 

I mean, it’s only been 3 games so there’s still plenty of time. But the overall morale of the team 3 games in is definitely concerning.

Friedman talked to an unnamed coach that has played against Ruff for years. After watching Ruff in the postgame presser that coach is worried that Ruff is already resigned.

This is the same thing that happened to O'Reilly. Was basically a skating corpse with the Sabres then goes to St Louis and wins Stanley Cup Conn Smythe.

My crappy Isles have a shot. 0-3 and with another loss tonight vs the Oilers to go 0-4. We need the #1 pick for the 2nd year in a row. On the plus side Schaefer looks like the real deal. We have our current and more importantly future #1 defenseman. The kid is only 18 and already playing very well at the NHL level.
