Gino had basically 30 starts before the Jets gave up on him The niners gave up on Trey Lance after like 5 The lights were too bright and the expectations were too high.. they were calling him a Josh Allen type All of that was a recipe for disaster 1 Quote
stevestojan Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I consider myself a pretty die hard bills fan and would have lost money if someone bet me that he was ever a Bill. Quote
Steptide Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Who was the qb that was here under Rex that threw the backwards pass in a pre season game? Still cracks me up when I think about it Quote

That was the preseason from hell. Leinart was signed off the street a day or two before, and if he had been merely average in that game, he likely would've been the Week One starter. 1 1 Quote

Bills passed on him to take EJ, and Smith fell to #39 in the draft. I don't recall many people thinking he was a monster. Maybe Jets fans, because they can talk themselves into almost anything, but most Bills fans were lukewarm at best about Manuel and glad the Bills didn't take Smith. . Quote

I'm talking about tre lance was compared to Josh Allen and he had a lot of expectations Geno Smith was a second round pick who played a lot his first two years not great.. and then did bust his ass on the bench for 6 years till he got his next chance He also was known as a terrific thrower of the football coming out of college he just had a long learning curve Edited 8 hours ago by Buffalo716 Quote

I recall divided opinion about Lance, not exactly like Allen, but similar boom-or-bust potential. That's what you're saying. My feeling is that a guy like Lance might hold on in the same way Tyrod has held on. Keep working and playing, getting buy on some special talent, and then see how far he develops. Tyrod was similar to Smith in that way, but didn't go as far as Smith. I think a Smith-like late career blossoming is possible with Lance. 1 Quote

Yeah and they also were paralleling two under recruited kids Who both wound up at small colleges.. even North Dakota is smaller than Wyoming FCS to FBS And their overall athleticism and ability to create outside pocket Not to mention that Lance was billed as a 6'3 230 lb modern day quarterback.. He really does seem to have a lot of talent but I think playing quarterback at the FCS level is almost too much to overcome at the NFL now Even Joe flacco was probably close to 20 years ago and he was the prototype pocket passer that the NFL looked for Trey Lance was a projection Quote

ganesh Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Leinart and Garappalo were system QBs manufactured in the Patriots system. They were not going to work out without a McDaniels. Quote
BillsFanForever19 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago There probably wasn't a time when I more actively followed College Football as it were happening and was more invested in a Draft than the 2006 NFL Draft. It was wild then to later see most of the College Superstars from that Draft end up wearing a Bills jersey at different points in time, even if incredibly briefly in some instances, in Mario Williams, Reggie Bush, Vince Young, and Matt Leinart. 1 Quote

He sucked as QB with the Bills and there were fans that were optimistic that it would be him comeback story Quote
