Augie Posted May 31 Posted May 31 (edited) When we lived in Sarasota, Fl there was a huge event every year called the UnGala Gala at the Ringling Museum, designed for the younger people rather than the Opera House crowd. We went a few years, and I learned it was actually an upscale meat market for the 30-somethings, but I digress (with some humorous memories). Hundreds of people there, and it was 100% GAYla. Now, the Gala apples I’m not so sure of. . Edited June 1 by Augie Quote

ExiledInIllinois Posted June 1 Posted June 1 This the US. Use American English: GAY-la Sheesh... Next thing, British wannabes will start using: whilst instead of while. /smdh 1 1 Quote
Augie Posted June 1 Posted June 1 OK, I mentioned the UnGala Gala above, so I’ll try to add something interesting. It’s a huge black tie event at the Ringling Art Museum, a grand setting for a big ass party. I went to the bathroom, then to the bar on the terrace level. I got separated from my wife but I pull up to the railing to look down on the band and the dance floor. I thought I’d found my wife when a soft hand comes from behind me as I lean on the railing. I was enjoying it for a millisecond until I looked down and saw my wife on the dance floor. I was so startled I jumped up, and by the time I turned around I couldn’t figure out which gown behind me to thank. I’m not sure if it was a nice hello, or “DAMN! Wrong guy with dark hair in a tux! They all look the same from behind!” Quote
ExiledInIllinois Posted June 1 Posted June 1 This is a ridiculous poll. Nobody calls it outside The U.K. with short vowel. This election is a a hoax.😆 😕 Quote

BritBill Posted June 5 Posted June 5 Absolutely no surprise it's pronounced GAY-LA your side of the pond. No surprise at all. Although, Queen's Radio Ga Ga now makes more sense. Quote
teef Posted June 5 Posted June 5 i pronounce it gay-la, but i just assumed it was because of our rochester accent. Quote
