I think it's about time. Heck, the way gambling punishments are going, particularly in NFL, pretty soon most gambling infractions will simply be a fine.

Might come in handy if/when the truth comes out on Ohtani. Currently, we’re supposed to believe that his interpreter racked up $5M in betting debts, that bookies kept taking bets from a guy making an interpreter’s salary… and Ohtani, out of the kindness of his heart, paid it all. OK 🙄.

Shoeless Joe Jackson should be inducted into the HOF TONIGHT in an emergency vote by the electors.

 

It's a total farce he was banned to begin with. Hits .375 in the series to lead players on both teams, hits the only home run in the entire series, commits no errors and throws out a runner at home plate and he is supposedly trying to "throw the series"??

 

In the history of people trying to to cheat, he must have been the worst cheater of all time of this was true.

 

On top of that there is no evidence he ever was in on it and strong evidence he actually tried to report it but was possibly manipulated due to being illiterate and lack of understanding what was actually going on.

 

I'm sure some would say what about Rose...well Rose admitted to doing the things he was accused of. Shoeless Joe never did any of the things he was accused of and was railroaded because he was on the team and made an example of by the Commissioner at the time, Kennesaw Mountain Landis.

With all the sponsorships, there might be mandatory gambling 

 

I'm kind of mixed on this.  Probably more in favor than not.  The way Manfred made the rule (deceased players may be eligible/reinstated) makes it much better and im for it.

 

It'll be interesting if that classic baseball committee votes them in and if they do right away.  Pretty sure the neckband writers wouldn't

If you go off his playing career, then Rose is a slam dunk to get voted in. But will he get enough votes despite being reinstated. Many of those who vote on this may not forgive him despite being reinstated.

With Shoeless Joe there was no doubt...he didn't do it, tried to report it and his actions and stats back up there is no way possible he could have been involved.

The roids/HGH is a different thing altogether.

 

Those people arent banned.  They just can't get enough votes.  I wonder if Rose and Jackson get in... and also a fringe HOF player like Cicotte.

I'm torn on this. On one hand, Pete Rose is a Cincinnati institution. He is as Westside Cincinnati as a person can be. The westside is a weird place. It's a really insular working-class community that does not accept outsiders. Think South Boston or South Buffalo with all that goes with that. Except for the Irish thing, because here, of course, they are mostly ethnically German. Went to Western Hills HS. Graduated from high school (Western Hills) and got a tryout with the local MLB team and made the roster out of that first spring training. Really a local boy made good in every way. And when he opened a restaurant, he opened a diner across from Western Bowl (like saying "on Seneca by Caz Park"), not a downtown steakhouse (although he might have had one of those too). Pete Rose also lived in Western Hills. He never left the neighborhood. This was both good and bad.

 

Pete got himself into debt. Everyone knows a bit about the gambling. but it was much worse than he admitted to. It has recently come out that he bet on baseball all during his career as a player, and owed lots of money to organized crime figures all around the tri-state area. This is a lot bigger than placing a few bets at Draft Kings. But then again, there is no evidence that he threw a game. In fact, he played at 100mph every second he was on the field. So, like I said, I'm torn.
