I would say it was both. The Chiefs have fallen behind by at least 10 points in every single Super Bowl they've played in, and in all but two their offense eventually found its groove and completed the comeback. But Philly's elite WRs allowed them to build a lead that was insurmountable so by the time KC started moving the ball it was too late. That 2nd half deep TD to Devonta Smith was the dagger that ended any chance of a comeback. Tampa Bay also had an elite WR corps when they beat KC.

But the other factor Philly and Tampa had in their Super Bowls was not just one elite pass rusher but waves of pass rushers that they were able to relentlessly send after Mahomes. So in that sense I like the way Beane has attacked the DL this offseason. A lot will depend on how well the three rookies develop and/or DeWayne Carter improves, but right now it looks semi-realistic that we could be 9 or 10 players deep with legit DL talent. That's the formula that has proven successful to harass and ultimately beat Mahomes in the playoffs so on paper at least I like the strategy.

I have a different take on the end of that SB as the Eagles took their foot off the proverbial gas and didn't go after Mahomes as much, and this allowed ole Patty to get his garbage yards. Did the Eagles bench some of their starters to avoid injury while allowing the backups to get a chance to play in the game?

With 8 minutes to go, the score was 6 to 40 with 3:43 minutes left in the 4th, with the Chiefs having a 5-minute drive. Sixteen points by the Chiefs and two field goals by the Eagles in the fourth quarter. This kind of tells me that the score could have been even more embarrassing for KC if they had kept the pressure up. Just sayin.

Plus, I think the entire NFL world watched that SB, and in the draft, so many teams wanted to build their defense like the Eagles, which is why most of the top DTs mocked to Buffalo were gone by the 30th pick.

Let’s take a moment and be thankful that the Chiefs didn’t sign him

Why? They weren't in on him. They have Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown, Jalen Royals, Skyy Moore, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Tyquan Thornton. Hanging on every move they make, don't make, and expressing thanks for them not making moves that they weren't ever going to make is taking the fear of them too far.

Shaw, the point is that there isn’t a player that’ll put them in a position any better than the one they were in last season. The only thing left for the Buffalo Bills to do is to have someone make ‘a play’ at the point of do or die. You either make the play or you go home.

The other night I was watching one of the NBA teams (can’t remember which one) lose a game because a player inexplicably let a ball go right through his hands and legs out of bounds when all he had to do was grab it and hold on. The opponent got the ball out of bounds and proceeded to go the length of the floor for the winning layup as time expired. All I could think to myself was geeeez what a Billsy way to screw up a sure victory.

Yes, Deek, but this is the argument that has raged around here for months, even a couple of years.  The Bills need a playmaker, a stud I call him.

Well, I'm generally in that camp, but I no longer make that argument. Why not?  Because by their actions McDermott and Beane have made it absolutely indisputable that they do not agree with a philosophy that demands that they go get a stud. They just don't.

Would they like to have another star who is also a team player, a Josh minor to Josh's Josh major?  Of course they would. But they will not spend really big draft capital to get one, and they will not spend really big cap money to get one, either. Their only hope of getting a second playmaker is to grow one.  Draft a guy with big upside, and that's what they've done, year after year. Kincaid, Hairston, Rousseau all are big upside guys.  Oliver was too.   Bernard was a big upside guy.  Cook was.  If they don't turn into the star we all want, well, okay, but they still can play really solid football while the search goes on. And they have three or four more of those guys now, in Hairston, Sanders, Jackson, and Walker - commentators three years from now could be saying that any one of them was the steal of the 2025 draft.

They've been very clear about their system: they plug holes in free agency and they build through the draft. Moore came as a free agent, and his role very definitely is to plug a hole, to make the receiver room better. His role is not be a stud, because free agency is not where McBeane look for studs.

So, as much as I would love for a real stud show up at some position, some guy who has Hall of Fame potential, a Chris Jones or a Watt, or a top five-receiver, or Saquon Barkley, McBeane are not going to acquire that guy by overspending.

I'm not going to criticize McBeane for having a perfectly logical and reasonable team-building approach just because I wish Chris Jones was on the Bills' roster.

I'm not going criticize them because there is no way that if I were the owner of the Bills I would fire one or both of them because they haven't chased after a stud. This team has had a spectacular record since taking over, they have a system, and the system is responsible for where this team is. Some people will say where they are is with an empty trophy case, but the reality is that the Bills are one of the five best-run franchises in the league, and they have the wins to show it. I'm not firing them because there is a thing here or there that I disagree with.

If I'm not going to fire them, then I'm going to accept the conscious decisions they make to run the team.

So, yeah, Moore isn't Justin Jefferson. Okay, everyone gets that. He's exactly what the Bills want: relatively cheap talent who will compete for playing time, and by virtue of his competing, the Bills will get better. That's how the Bills build and improve, and that's why I'm happy the Bills signed him.

Not only that but it is clear to me this was not really a one time thing.  Those guys can’t stop talking about the need for wrs.  It has been happening for years even when Diggs was on the team.

Which probably generated that "fantasy football" crack.

Is it just me, or are the Browns uni’s just ugly as sin?

🤢

Both professional football teams in Ohio have a direct connection to Paul Brown and this determines both their uniform and name. The Browns are named after him so the connection is clear. But the rest goes back to Masselon High School, where Brown played HS football and had his second coaching job. Their uniform in the 40's was orange and brown with an orange helmet. Pretty much exactly the same as Cleveland's. Then when Brown founded the AFL franchise in Cincinnati, he had zero energy for uniforms or names. So, he just changed the brown to black and wrote Bengals on the helmet. And the Masselon football team's name is the Tigers, so he named his team in Cincinnati the Bengals.

I’ve not said a single negative word about the signing. I honestly don’t care. I just want a Bills player (I’ll settle for a third string TE at this point) to make THE PLAY that’s needed to get them to and over that final ever elusive hurdle. Preferably….“Just once before I die.” 😉

Can't argue with that.

They drafted a third string tight end. Maybe you're onto Beane's secret plan.

It will be fun to see how much Brady has grown.

Do expect more depth of game calling. Still everyone eats.

Aint nothing wrong with that 🤠

I find this place to be interesting. Do I like this signing? Sure! Why not? Would it have made a difference in the Bills making it to the Super Bowl last year? Nope! Will it this year? Probably not, unless Moore catches the damn ball when the AFC Championship Game is on the line. Period.

If he does it will be more than Diggs did in the playoffs for the Bills.

I agree they likely would not have had interest, but I think a good standard or logic to apply is if you would feel bad about the Chiefs getting him, then you should be happy the Bills did.

Posters blow that out of proportion though. Anyone that the Chiefs Draft, sign, or might sign sends a lot of them into panic. If *any* player becomes available, it's inevitable that you'll see "oh god, please don't go the Chiefs". Even if it is a marginal player. Bc it's always assumed that if the Chiefs sign them, they're going to get the best possible version of that player and more. Now we should be giving thanks that they didn't sign Elijah Moore - even when they weren't in on him? That's a little much for me.

I like that we signed Elijah Moore, given our situation at WR. But if the Chiefs signed him? I wouldn't lose any sleep.

I just get a litte irked by the constant Chiefs obsession and fear posting. They live rent free in so many Bills fans minds. I can guarantee Chiefs fans don't give a crap what we're doing. If i'm a Chiefs fan seeing all the fear posting (and there's a few on here) - i'd laugh.

One throwback I would definitely love to see is that basic Bengals look from the 70’s.   Never liked the current set with the varicose veined pumpkin for a helmet.  It’s okay if they were sponsored by a strip club.

I hear you and I’m definitely not advocating OBD roster builds with solely or even primarily the Chiefs in mind. Still, I think if the Chiefs signed Moore, then I’d be disappointed about the very real possibility he gets unlocked there, and that is just a little bit further support for why I like the signing, which I really do.

Or the leggings worn by a 55-yo MILF named Tammy with hoop earings smoking a Virgina Slim.
