Right, there’d be at least 64, but I took the 34 to mean RGs only, so a couple other backup guards who have gotten significant playing time were also rated higher.

I’m never a big fan of taking huge offensive lineman. Lateral quickness is always a big question mark and knee bend. When big guys get tired, they get lazy. Torrence surprised me early in year 1 but since then has been about what I expected. An average guard

Spencer Brown showed flashes of elite play and had ridiculous athletic upside. Torrence doesn't have any of that going for him. My concern is that he hasn't showed any sort of progress. He is still getting beat in the same way he was last year. I'm not giving up on him, offensive linemen can take a while to develop, but early returns are not promising.

Getting Cody Ford vibes yet? He was passably decent (not great) in his first season too before the wheels came off.

Cody Ford by my memory was even worse. Torrence really just has the one major weakness in his game, Ford on the other hand couldn't do anything right. But if it gets to the end of the season and Torrence still hasn't progressed then I will start to think we will need legit competition at the position next offseason.

Couldn't believe Beane was able to get a draft pick for Ford. He was awful in 2020 and 2021. He has actually started one game for Cincy this year!

He is by far the biggest disappointment on the team right now. I'm worried this is not just a blip. His pass blocking really got worse as the season went on last year. Was hoping it was just the rookie wall. I had high hopes this kid was going to be a star.

Long season yet to play for him to figure it out.

IIRC, Torrence really only had 1 season of SEC level competition before he was drafted. This might be a reason why it might take him a little longer to put it all together.

 

I didn't start the thread to crap on Torrence, just to state the fact that he isn't as far along in his development as I thought he would be at this point.

 

Like you stated, lets hope we see some progress, especially in pass-pro, by the end of the season.

It looks like he's gotten slower. I'm afraid Colemanitis is a communicable disease.

Another reason why our team should not abandon the run as run blocking is more of a strength of Torrence whereas pass pro was his weakness coming into the league.

 

That is not to say he will not improve, just that it is a known area that needs improvement that defenses will exploit until he does.

 

From one of several draft profiles re: weaknesses. Not that far off...

"Can be susceptible to speed rushers. Has only good quickness off the snap and doesn't possess the acceleration to corral defenders once they cross his face

    Often gets too high in his sets, sacrificing some of his power, and Torrence doesn’t always show great coordination between his upper and lower body when sliding back in pass protection.

    Torrence has good overall vision, however, he sometimes misses the block in a scrum. Sometimes a little (slow) to pick up the blitz

    He’s often too mechanical as a pass protector, oversetting and getting beat inside"

agreed.  The issue is if this, like Bass, ends up costing the Bills important games.  Still time to figure it out, but I hope the staff has a plan if Torrence keeps playing like this.

It’s so annoying they show the PFF grades. They had Roquan Smith graded in the bottom percentile which is crap. I wish we had made the trade for him he’s a baller.
