Would the Chiefs had ended up with Worthy without the trade with the Bills?

Recommended Posts

This maybe a reach, but I think they would have.

We know that the Bills had Coleman higher than McConkey, Mitchell, Legette, Worthy, and Pearsall.  If they didn't they would have taken one of Worthy, McConkey, Legette or Pearsall at 28 (or 32) instead of trading down (twice).  So let's say for arguments sake that the Bills don't make the trade and draft Coleman at 28.

Dallas and Baltimore don't take a WR.  Dallas didn't grab a WR until the 6th round and Baltimore stole Tez Walker in the 4th.  We know SF didn't want Legette, McConkey and Coleman. That leaves one question, would they have taken Worthy over Pearsall?  That's the real question.  Given how the 49ers went somewhat off the board by drafting Pearsall with Legette, McConkey, Coleman, & Mitchell available, I believe they had Pearsall ranked ahead of Worthy as well.

By way the NFL had a draft grade of 6.4 on McConkey, 6.35 on Mitchell, 6.32 on Pearsall, 6.29 on Worthy, 6.26 on Legette, and 6.25 on Coleman

Given this back drop, it seems to me that KC would ended up with Worthy anyway.  I'm therefore glad Beane stuck to his guns, traded down and added the 3rd rd pick.

No way to know. But even if they would have, it shouldn’t have been through our handing him to them.

We are the joke of the NFL right now. Seeing stuff like this everywhere (and Greeny was a Bills ally all last season, defending us when no-one else would):

NFL Memes is the lowest-hanging, bottom-tier “humor” account for people with a room temperature understanding of the game. What do you expect?

You can’t put a player like Worthy on the field every down, making him a luxury pick. There is only one team in position to make a luxury pick. That said, the Chiefs handed the Bills draft capital for free.

1) we have no idea if the bills had Coleman higher than any of the WR’s drafted ahead of him. What we do know is that the bills didn’t have worthy, pearsall, legette, or Coleman as 1st round grades.

2) no way to know if KC still gets worthy, they could have traded up with another team behind us, or he could have fallen to them. We will never know. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter. What if we took worthy and Coleman is taken by KC at 32, and Coleman is HOFer and worthy is John Ross. Can’t play what if game, just follow your board.

I think we can only know for sure that they had Coleman higher than Legette (knew Carolina was taking him) and McConkey (didn’t pick him when they had the chance).

They didn’t know who KC or San Fran would pick when they made the trade.

Theoretically they may have had Worthy and Pearsall higher.

At the end of the day, they got their guy, we got our guy. We obviously did not want Worthy. It’s our scouts versus theirs.

Very likely. Who cares? The media ate this up because it adds to the "Chiefs own the Bills" storyline. But it's a complete nothingburger. Beane took what was the best deal for the bills, which is what he should do. Can't worry about who the chiefs may or may not take.

We don’t know this at all actually.

We can say they had Coleman higher than McConkey and Mitchell only.
