Five big AFCE questions

Would love your answers to these, Mafia.

 

Here are the five questions the article asks:

1. How does Rodgers change the balance of power in the division?
2. Is this now the most QB-rich division in the league?
3. Which QB is surrounded by the best talent?

4. Which team has the best defense to shut down an elite QB?

5. Which team helped itself the most in the draft?

Your answers more of less agree with the article, with the Patriots being the exerts' choice for question 5, and no best QB division for question 2, except not the AFC E.

I think these have to be the answer. I think the jets/ Miami/Buffalo are capable of winning any of the games played against each other now that Rodgers is in. Wilson's jets beat the Bills so anything is possible.

Dolphins are a threat for sure

 

just not sure about how sustainable they are...both offense and defense are kind of boom or bust imo. Even last year when they were putting up those big numbers they seemed inconsistent w some ridiculous stretches of big plays

1-  yes and no-  it just adds the Jets to the mix of potential division champs.  It doesn’t make the jets the favorite but a contender.

 

2- no-  dam close though.  I think Mac brings the AFCE down below the AFCW and maybe tied with the AFCN.  I’d take Jimmy and Pickett over Macnchz.  I think Watson and Wilson will both be equal to Tua.  
 

3-  I think Miami, NYJ and Buffalo are all similar in talent.  The jets and fins both have better weapons on O, but I think we have a better OL now.  
 

4- Toss up between the jets and fish.  Initial thought was the Jets-  but the addition of Fangio is more important that Ramsey imo. Both teams have a chance to be elite vs the pass.  
 

5- the pats helped themselves the most during the draft.   Plus they effed the jets.  They had 12 draft picks and I think they got tremendous value with Gonzalez, Boutte, Davis.  We did dam good too- but 12 picks >>>>> 6

1. AFCE is more competitive within the division that it has been within the last 15 years. I still believe if Buffalo plays to their potential they win the division. Schedule looks even harder this year. With the exception of the last game against Cinncy, the Bills shot themselves in the foot against MIA, MN and the NYJ in the 3 regular season losses.

 

2. Tua and Mac still need to elevate their game so I would say no.

 

3. Overall offensive talent is MIA and Tua. OL play could determine who wins the division.

 

4. If fully healthy, I give the edge to the Bills but barely. NYJ are right there.

 

5. TBD, One could make the case for NE for overall contributions if they hit on the kicker and punter they drafted.

1. Jets can compete for the division but likely take a WC

2. No. Definitely not decidedly better than AFCN or AFCW and NFCE might have better or equal overall QB talent. 
3. It’s close. I think Tua has better top end talent while Allen has greater depth of talent. 
4. Jets.

5. NE* has the best potential helping themselves with all those high picks, but I think Jets and Bills tied for talent brought in.

Dolphins are not a threat because Tua will never make it through an entire season. He will miss 4-5+ games every year he is in the league, which has been consistent throughout his pro and college career. The last time he played an entire season was in high school.

i mean they almost beat us in the playoffs at home last year

What order would you rank the AFCE coaches in, in terms of liklihood of winning a Super Bowl. (one guy already has).

It's tough because they'd all have to have comparable talent to really answer

I will just answer the first one. 

 

I understand Rodgers was banged up last year and the Jets had a horrible QB last season. Allen was also banged up last year and the Bills injuries and expectations made things very difficult. 

 

Below is performance against the AFC East last season. If I just put this up and nothing else, can anybody tell who everybody is outside of our guy?

 

 
 

Maybe Rodgers turns things around but he will turn 40 this year and he's no longer going up against the pillow soft NFC. Expectations for him and the Jets are high. Envisioning an abrupt fall from grace given the market he is playing in does not seem that far fetched.  

 

 

I still consider Buffalo the dominant leader in this race. The more people want to talk about the Jets and Miami, the more I like our chances. We have the best QB and it's not close and we have not had the benefit of playing with a chip on our shoulder for a long time.

I have a weird hunch that this will work out like a lot of assumptions last season.

 

The Colts, Broncos & Chargers were all going to be bigtime contenders last offseason.  I even thought that, about each of them.  In reality, they were paper tigers.

 

Right now, the AFCE is being talked about like the best division in years (and what a turnabout from the Brady years!)  We'll see. Rodgers didn't do anything w/ Green Bay the last couple of years.  Tua & Miami are legit - but they're not that much better than last year, and we still prevailed, even with subpar efforts against them in 2 of the 3 games we played them.  I don't buy that O'Brien is going to magically make Mac Jones that much better. He's a capable QB, but in the game manager mold - which won't cut it in this division or conference.

 

It wouldn't surprise me a bit if we had the division title wrapped up in early December.

 

I didn't answer each question, but that's my general feel for how it's going to play out. Right now, it's all a lot of hype.

Bills have to beat the Chiefs and Bengals in the playoffs. Does it matter if we win AFC East? I don't think it does. Wouldn't mind seeing them coast into the playoffs and keep everyone healthy for a change. Regular season wins mean nothing. We beat KC every year in the regular season and nobody cares

I don't think it matters all that much outside of the fact that the team makes it such a big goal each year. If they can't accomplish that goal, it wouldn't seem likely they can accomplish more, but sure, some have done so, and what matters most for us is getting hot at the right time like we did in 2021.
