This was trending on Twitter, and it seems many people, on both sides of the aisle, agree.

Of course, this will never happen, but in the era of Trump and Pandemic Politics, I think we’ve entered a stage where our differences are no longer tenable.

I couldn’t imagine how people on the left could hate Trump so much.  Some of it is still over the top… but now I kind of get it, because the hatred I have for Biden is something I constantly have to check myself on - because I truly don’t feel like it’s healthy to hold contempt like that.

We no longer have “policy differences”…. Our differences are should kids be forced to wear masks all day, should unvaxxed people be allowed jobs, air travel and healthcare….  It’s free society vs restrictive society, and those two ideals are not compatible.

Im all for this.  I moved down south a few years ago, and now realize that I could never move back to NY.

Half this country can be for higher taxes, more government programs, anytime abortion, progressive education, mask mandates, vax mandates, looser borders and gun control.

The other half will, of course, have the opposite views.

And we can be allies.

No,the inner cities would be the poor and lazy. Looking for free handouts without working. Yeah, that’s gonna work out real well. Lol

Most Red States could never survive on their own - they barely do now without federal funding.

Given the migration of corporations to Florida, Texas, Georgia and South Carolina for lower taxes, I’m not so sure about that.

Small businesses would most assuredly flourish in a red country.

Performing arts talent and the tech industry would definitely reside in blue country.

Lots of blue cities in red/purple states seem to be doing ok as they’re held in check by red governors or legislature - but the blue cities in blue states are not exactly flourishing at the moment.

Id expect much of blue country would begin looking like NYC, Portland, Seattle, San Fran, LA etc… maybe that’s your thing.

How much money would the red states save not having to pay for all of the deadbeats the blue states have?

They would lose since red states don’t contribute any money to the pie. They would basically just have to wing it with tourism. There’s no industry.

Its more like, what would blue states “save” by not having to support red states?

Both would have their fair share of issues,  but you’re just flat out ignoring the migration of people and business to red states over the past few years.

Blue country would basically be California unchecked.  What do you do with your southern border?   What do you do about crime?  What will be your tax code to pay for government programs, especially given the mass foreign migration your people would want?   What would be the acceptable role of law enforcement?

I know how red country would legislate on these issues, and it’s sustainable.   I don’t know how blue country settles these issues, given the whims of what would be its residents.

I know exactly what would happen with the border. Red states would let them pile in and go back to slavery. They would have no choice.

SC wouldn’t last 10 years if that actually happened. What are they supposed to do? They don’t contribute anything. BMW would pack up and leave. It would be a total mess.

Why would BMW pack up and leave?

South Carolina also has a Michelin HQ as well as Boeing.   And, yes, the tourism industry as previously mentioned.

South Carolina currently has two of the fastest growing areas in the country… Greenville and Charleston.

In your scenario, businesses would be forced to pick sides or they wouldn’t be able to do business with the north.

Other than Bob Jones University, Greenville would be empty in 5 years.

You're in a plane crash in the wilderness.  With no chance of being rescued for 10 to 12 months.  You can get on one of two planes.

The first plane is full of red state people.  People with hard life skills, farmers, hunters, military vets, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and construction people, and other people with basic skills and more conservative views.

The second plane is full of blue state people.  Bankers, entertainers and artists, sociologists, women, race, and gender studies majors, web app designers, people on welfare and social assistance.

You want to maximize your chances of survival.  Which plane do you get on?

See, the problem with Silvermans's idea is the majority Blue state people she represents generally have no life or basic survival skills or the knowledge or ability to keep the fundamental elements of civilization working.  Most of them would die in the first 3 months.  The rest might start to figure it out.  Keeping things working like the water supply, electricity, the communications systems, roads and bridges, garbage pick up.  All that stuff they take for granted that are performed by the deplorables.   When your power goes out in the middle of the night I suspect its not a crew of hard core Biden supporters rolling out to get it back on.

The scenario put forth assumes USA 1 and USA 2 as allies, so it would be an EU of sorts.   No reason why one side would stop doing business with the other side.

Even if we went with your scenario… why does it only go one way?  Would Salesforce be Salesforce if they lose half their customers and are forced to solely reside in a high crime/high tax area… they moved into Texas and Georgia for a reason.

Lots of corps also play the social justice game for self preservation.  Non-tech companies wouldn’t care about this stuff in a red country that prioritizes performance over diversity quotas and shallow messaging.

Nevermind the tax advantages and loosening of red tape they’d receive in a red country.

Plenty of corps would choose red.  They aren’t as progressive as you hope … Most are progressive insofar it relates to the bottom line.

Basically, every item/product all the way down the line comes from a blue state. People in rural areas would absolutely starve. Their feed, tractor, supplies, tools, etc. all comes from blue states.

How would they get these items? Through the port of Wilmington, NC? Lol.

Which is why it would be a union, as the inverse goes for blue country when all the farmers (who give you food) and truckers (who transport you food) leave blue country for red country.

Masks, agreed… thats quite petty to ever even joke about dividing the country in two.

Vax mandates, and the way Dem voters/politicians speak about it… never seen anything like it in my life.

I sure would like to give it a try! It still wouldn’t work because red states are the welfare/poorest states and they wouldn’t get federal dollars from blue states.

Lol. Who do you think built everything in the south? It sure as hell wasn’t southerners! The trades were always far superior in the north and always will be.

To answer your question, I would look for the group carrying around a bunch of little suitcases and wearing neat watches. Ok, these are your Jewish bankers, clock/watch makers, gem dealers, etc.

I would get on that plane with them. That’s my people.

Why do you keep harping on mask mandates?   I’ve already said that’s petty.

Telling me, an unvaccinated person who works out 5x a week, takes care of myself and had covid already, that I must get vaccinated or be subjected to various levels of punitive action ranging from:  Forced resignation from a job, to air travel bans, to (in many prominent lib circles) denial of healthcare and now, plausibility of eviction, is where I begin to think we’re just better off not being forced to cohabitate.

100%- I’ll go on the side that supports capitalism, business especially small businesses and wants to grow the economy, discourages lazy deadbeats and refuses to subsidize people who don’t want to work their fair share

as for social issues.

love who you want to love, be who you want to be, live how you want to live.

And no to paying princely elite salaries to elites to control me

i really love this idea. The sad irony is the socialist elite think they don’t need the producers and workers to make their utopia happen.

Germany is a fantastic case study on this topic.
