What's the point of making all this money as a QB if your team is going to suck. It just means that you have a better chance of getting injured if you can't put an OL around you to protect you. As long as the player is good. This is actually one reason to extend Allen now because next year you can do the same thing. He gets the same $ in a contract shift, and given KC has three o lineman gone with the center released, they have the $ to get FA’s that will be more affordable than in years past.
