No, but taking a handoff is kinda the easiest part of the job.  Get your head right and come back to it.  

By that logic Josh fumbling the snap last week should have resulted in benching. It too is the easiest part of the job.

Seems like a gross overreaction by McD. Another poster wondered if there was more to the story such as meeting or practice issues. That would make more sense to send a message.

Fumbling the snap at the goalline would maybe not get allen benched but id chew him the hell out.  Can't happen at the 1 yard line.  Can NOT happen there.  You're giving the other team points.

But Moss has a unique skillset among our backs and is the only guy we have that can drop his pad level to get tough extra yards.

Whether it's goal to go or short yardage downs, Moss has become an integral part of this team that does a job that nobody else can do. There were multiple instances throughout that game where we could have really used him out there and McDermott gluing him to the bench for virtually the entire game accomplished nothing more than to hurt the rest of the team.

 

Yeah they really missed him for the rest of the game as they scored on six straight possessions.  Good take.

Moss looks like his 40 time at the combine,  which was  4.72 and 4.65.   Haven't been real impressed with him.

Good point.  After Moss' fumble, they scored on every subsequent drive until the last real drive, where they had to punt, and Moss had gotten back into the game by then.  Maybe on the FG drive after the Hyde INT down to the SF 5 he might have helped punch it into the endzone instead of them settling for the FG, but no way to know now.

The same logic doesn’t apply to your mvp worthy starting QB.  You know this Ethan.  Not sure why you would even write this post.  
 

A rookie rb that is in a time share with the starting rb just gave the opposition 7 points a play after the D had an exhausting 13 play drive that ended with a triumphant goal line stand. It’s not the same thing in the least bit.  When the rookie RB is actually an mvp worthy qb, then you can apply the same logic

An rb just can't have a 4.72 under any circumstances.

Yeah.  Josh gets the BOTD.  Moss doesn't.  And he was benched for what, 1/2 a game?  Again it sent a message and they didn't need him.

I think it’s fair to revisit this take that I thought was bad at the time, and has aged even more poorly.  Clearly McD and Daboll know what they are doing and Moss is probably a more focused player for it.
