New York Jets safety Marcus Maye had harsh words for defensive coordinator Gregg Williams after Sunday's 31-28 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, after the Raiders exploited Williams' all-out blitz for the 46-yard game-winning touchdown with five seconds remaining.

Maye said multiple times that the defense "should have been in a better call" on the game's deciding play, which began with the Raiders facing third-and-10 with 13 seconds left near midfield and the winless Jets leading 28-24.

Williams brought seven rushers, with an eighth coming in late, against Las Vegas' seven-man protection, leaving undrafted rookie cornerback Lamar Jackson one-on-one with Raiders first-round rookie Henry Ruggs III down the left sideline.

“We have to execute, but you have to help us out at the same time," Maye said, adding he wasn't "criticizing" anyone but that "different situations could have played out better."

It wasn't the right defensive call, but Carr had just missed similar type of throw under duress to Agholor. The CB bit on the under route. Why? We'll never know. Then Ruggs with those 4.33 wheels just runs right by him with Carr dropping in the perfect ball. I'm sure those players are tired of losing as well as hearing about how bad their team is. I'm sure they were trying their hardest to finally get that monkey off of their backs of being a winless team. It didn't happen.

Williams has done this before, many times. What i question is why was an undrafted rookie on Ruggs?

Honestly they rushed what 6? 7?  they also had a spy... this was just a terrible play call.

I don't mind bringing a little extra pressure... a sack ends it.  But 6 or 7 or whatever guys?  Are you insane?

You really should also play zone, and you should play deep.  20 yards over the middle? even 25... that leaves them with a quick spike and one shot at the end zone.

This is a lot like the situation buffalo faced with Murray - but Carr isn't nearly as athletic.

To be honest i might be in the minority of Jets fans. I would like to trade out of the top pick and gather some more picks. We have too many holes to fill and lack talent at many positions.

What is the plan at QB?  Stick with Darnold?

I think what our coaching staff did to him cannot be fixed. I think he will flourish with another team that has a stable front office and coaching staff. I would say draft Trask and get a vet to be a bridge so that he can learn. I do not want to drop out of the top 10. We need to get another mauler for the o-line and set the line up for the next QB. That strategy worked well when we had Ferguson and Mangold. Quinnen Williams, Mims, Crowder, Becton and Hall are the pieces we need to build around.

On the WFAN this morning Boomer Esiason hinted the Bill Cowher thinks the Jets job is the most interesting one out there that could be available. Usually when talk about Bill possibly getting back into coaching comes up Boomer says no way. He says Bill is happy at CBS . It should be noted that Bill lives in NYC and his wife is a huge Jets fan. Maybe something comes of it maybe not. For Boomer to suggest that Bill is intrigued could mean something.

Boomer seems to be hinting that Bill Cowher seems interested in coaching again...he also seems to be saying that Cowher thinks the Jets job is the best job out there...interesting

I think Becton will be a good LT.. And I liked Mims coming out.. I think the Jets will likely take Lawrence.. See if you can get a 2nd plus some other picks for Darnold.. Probably add another WR and some OL help in RD2.. Regardless, this is going to be an uphill battle for the Jets.. Both Miami and Buffalo look like they’ll be continuous playoff contenders for the next 5-6 years and New England is a team that will always be tough to beat with Belichick there.. Doesn’t look good for the Jets..

It doesnt look good at all for us. As far as a coach goes, i want a new up and coming person that has a different coaching style.

No thank you, he hasnt been in the league in years and is old school. This would be a very Jetsy thing to do, hiring someone based on past coaching. For instance, look what happened when we got Bell, i knew he wasnt going to be the back he was with Pitt, we didnt have the o-line they had.

Well.. I think you’re better off adding an offensive minded coach.. I think if Lawrence does come out, that could potentially attract a great coach to marry to Lawrence.. If I were a Jets fan I’d probably be pushing for Jim Harbough.. It’s a tough sell though.. the AFC East is a pretty tough division these days.. Very very very tough division.. but once again, the prospect of drafting Trevor Lawrence may attract a quality HC..

LOL!  There are 3 other jobs with franchise QBs (if you think Matt Stafford is one, that is).  The saliva has jammed-up Cowher's brain.

I like Lawrence, but he plays on a stacked team, how will he fair when put in a position that takes him out of his comfort zone. I do know that we have to hit on this draft and coaching hire.

I agree with you but pointing out that Boomer made mention of it this morning on WFAN. From Cowher's standpoint he has a great job. He gets paid millions to watch and talk football without the stress and long hours that coaches put in.

Look at those teams and tell me what their cap space is like. I dont want Cowher, but with the draft picks and cap space any coach would be able to form the team to their liking.

I wouldnt leave his job for any coaching job, unless he still has the fire to coach.
