Clearly I made the post a little over the top to get discussion going. But if you want to contribute in a constructive way versus being a pretentious post critic, please do. I don't expect everyone to agree. I will call people out for acting mightier then others for legitimate discussions. Which is what I did. We have all off-season with nothing better to do than argue about this. Right now, we need them both. Edmunds needs to step up and Milano needs to get back healthy. The presence of linebacker Matt Milano sure helped. After a two-week absence, the Bills welcomed Milano back on a pitch count against the Jets. He wasn’t an every-down starter just yet, but there was a clear plan of attack from the coaching staff for Milano to make the Bills a better defense. Milano took only 15 snaps, all coming on third downs, on fourth downs and at the end of each half. He provided excellent run support, and his read on fourth-and-1 helped force the running back wide to get the Jets off the field. He was also solid in coverage, and when asked to, threatened the Jets as a blitzer. The statistics backed up how much better the Bills were when Milano was on the field. The Jets gained 190 yards total. They gained only 16 of those yards when Milano was playing. The Jets tallied, on average, only 1.1 yards per play when the Bills used Milano. While that’s very likely an unsustainable figure, it simply reinforces the point about Milano’s wide-ranging importance to the Bills’ defensive operation. Without him, the Bills are a different team. But picking the Jets and the Chiefs game to assess Edmunds...I kind of feel like in the latter game, Skarkrow is kind of skating over Edmunds role in some of the problems we had I'm sure his point is well taken that AJ Klein being out of position or late to the party was part of the problems because I've seen it and it's been called out elsewhere. In August, Milano said he “wouldn’t want to be anywhere else” other than Buffalo but also said he wasn’t focused on a new deal. He figured the business side of football would take care of itself as long as he continued his strong play. ... “Matt knows everybody around the league knows what type of player he is and what caliber player he is,” White said. “He doesn’t have to come in and try to press or do things uncharacteristic to try to prove that he’s this type of player because he’s in a contract year. It’s not an either or, and they are both playing hurt. I’m just hopeful the four we need all play Sunday (Edmunds, White, Milano, and Smoke Brown). Kudos to you that you played, I too played - I seriously think that people who have played versus people who haven't have a better perspective. We can agree to disagree - I personally think there is more upside to Edmunds and while I certainly will not dispute Milano is an excellent player and a huge bargain for the Bills it would seem that when the Bills are pushed up against the cap both will not be able to be signed. Personally I would trust the Bills current brain trust to settle this situation more amicably than you and I sitting in front of a screen. Would be sweet to see both retained. IMO, fixing the DL would also help keep Milano on the field. It all starts in the trenches and our trenches always seem to start with the LBs. I cannot stand that the commentators call Edmunds a tackling machine. He is but it is 5 -10 yards down the field . He cannot shed blocks.
