To put this in context, the Alpha variant, which originated out of the UK, was about 50% more infectious and transmissible. The Delta variant is 60% more infectious than that." And in Los Angeles County, which was recently a part of the California reopening which allowed fully vaccinated individuals to ditch masks indoors, their Department of Health is now asking all residents, vaccinated or not, to keep their masks on inside (from The Los Angeles Times). And we know that mask wearing does decrease the spread of Covid-19, which, then lowers the rate of hospitalizations and death. American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten is keeping an eye on the global response to the delta variant of COVID-19 and noting that the nation, as well as workers, need to be prepared to adapt. The nation has adapted & done their jobs for the last 1.5 yrs while unions pushed back at the slightest suggestion that they should adapt or assume any risk. It's not necessary just looking at the data to force vaccinations at this point in the US. Im not ignoring the US. New cases in the US are only 20% this variant so far. In the Uk it’s most of them. We’re just behind. I don’t think we are in disagreement but maybe I’m wrong. I’m saying that it appears this variant is breaking through the vax especially for older people and thus by choosing not to get the shot, people are not just hurting themselves and others who chose not to be vaccinated.
