I recall seeing "fire Beane" all over the boards. Would you rather have the 5th round pick in this year's draft or AJ McCarron? JimKellyTryouts Posted April 22, 2019 Share Posted April 22, 2019 Signing him for only $5M compared to $15-20M for guys like Bradford or Glennon was a huge win, as was getting a 5th for a guy that seems to struggle with being a decent backup in this league. The concerns were justified, though. This coaching staff saw and practiced with Peterman all offseason to determine that he could start, and that only he and our rookie were enough to roster. Props to Beane for being honest and saying that this was a mistake and that a veteran like DA should have been added earlier (which was what most of us were saying). 3 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I can’t speak for everyone but for me it was 1,000% about Peterman. They believed he was an option. MANY people here didn’t and didn’t think Allen was ready. They were right about that. The Bills did well to get a 5th for McCarron. The Bills screwed up by allowing Peterman to start the 1st game. Both of those things are true now and were true at that point. Anything done by the Bills brass in reference to the QB situation last season (after drafting Allen) was pretty much a disaster. Even with a 2019 5th rounder to show for it ? Punching Bag Posted April 22, 2019 Share Posted April 22, 2019 That P5t5rman looked acceptable as potential starter is due to NFLPA rules regarding contact - when contact is limited as much as it is it can be hard to tell how a player will react with real bullets flying. Unfortunately vanilla defenses in preseason do not help with this evaluation. He worked hard, studied hard and looked better than McCarron in camp (McCarron had been injured in Browns game further limiting his ability to show what he could do).
