My favorite Allen play from last week doesn't show up on the stat sheet..The Aaron Rodgers Special

So probably my favorite play from the Jet game is when Allen forced the DE Offside , had the awareness the flag was thrown and just chucked one up to I believe Zay Jones, resulting in a pass interference and a 30-40 yard gain! Aka the Aaron Rodgers special.

This is super heady for a rookie and something Rodgers has made a living doing on a consistent basis in Green Bay. The next thing that crossed my mind after being super super impressed by this heady, veteran like play was how I remember Tyrod Taylor NEVER taking advantage of offside penalties. I was on BBMB at that time but we definitely had a few discussions about Tyrod just not having the awareness to take advantage of the offside . Just another example that this kid has tons of potential and another example of a great, veteran play that wont show up on the stat sheet and eventually resulted in a Bills TD.

Haven't seen this particular play discussed on here, as I'm sure many posters felt very refreshed seeing Allen make that throw , especially after 3 years of Taylor failing to ever come close to making that type of play.

You’re right, Aaron Rodgers is the only one. Ever.

Lol. It's just that Rodgers seems to make a living off that, it feels like he's doing that every time i see the Pack play . He was the player that came to mind when Allen threw the deep ball knowing the D was Offside, Rodgers consistently will chuck it deep when the D is Offside. Not many QBs do . I just thought it was a very heady play for a rookie , and again, our previous QB would never make a throw like that, as he seemed to be stuck in his head, nervous in the pocket and didn't trust his throwing ability, so Taylor was thinking, while Allen just reacted and made a veteran throw there.

It was, Jersey.  Don't know why mr. fixit is being douchy about it.  It's a heady play, that you WANT your QB to make.  But especially heady for a rook.  And I was as big a Tyrod Taylor fan as there was, but he didn't do it often (if ever).  I'm wondering if it's b/c he couldn't see over his line to see it happening! LOL!

Too many sensitive people around here. It’s a common play QB’s make. Has been forever.

It’s not something that anyone refers to as the Aaron Rodgers special.

Hence why I said it.

So pull up your pants and act like a human.

There's no need to bash Tyrod for this. I see it time and time again week after week from vet QB's to rookies. There are obviously far fewer opportunities than in the past because they blow most of them dead.

Nice to see that JA has that alterness about himself.

Since 2007, Rodgers has twelve touchdowns on free plays, no one else has more than 4. It is not nearly as common place as you make it out to be and requires poise and situational awareness that many QBs don’t have. Be happy our guy showed a bit of that

Nothing I said had anything to do with Josh Allen.

Utilizing a free play is common practice.

However statistics bear that to be false, with Aaron Rodgers significantly better at causing and then utilizing those plays.. it is not at all common, many QB stop to avoid a potential hit and take the flag

Did Josh Allen throw a TD on the play this thread is about?

Or did he just do something QB’s always do?

Cause if he threw a TD, then we can call it an Aaron Rodgers special. Just to make you happy. Seeing as that’s the only stat that you’ve seen to bring up.

But he didn’t.

Really appreciate the stats..I was second guessing myself for a minute, because i didn't think it was as common as some people are saying , just from watching a fair amount of games a year I don't see QBs take advantage of a free play and go deep like Allen did and see Rodgers consistently do it. I'm not in no way comparing the two, as i stated , Rodgers was the first guy i thought of when he made the throw and these stats pretty much confirm what my eyes have seen. Regardless of what anyone says, it was very impressive and encouraging to ME .

Correct, it’s the stat that was easiest to find, and it’s reliable because nobody throws curl routes on a free play. It’s a 3 outcome play, TD, incomplete or DPI. I watch a lot of games and it just plain doesn’t happen often, it’s not an easy stat to research however. Also and nobody has mentioned this yet, most free play opportunities are brought about by changing cadence by the QB, an intelligent play. You’re out here lumping every QB together as if there is no skill involved

I’m only lumping QB’s together because it’s practiced and common place for a QB to look deep when a flag is thrown on a free play.

Because it is.

I'm not sure why you're even responding to that poster. I'd just ignore them

Dude, I guess he feels it was impressive for a rookie to take advantage of an Offside like that and go deep. It wasn't a TD but we gained a huge amount of yards. And I guess we are watching different games because I don't see QB go deep like that as often as you are making it out to be. I'm not saying QBs don't do it, but I'm saying it's in no way a play that every qb makes on a consistent basis. Again, our previous veteran starter of 3 years never made that type of throw, literally.

It sounds like you have a biased against Allen. All we are saying is that it was great situational awareness by our rookie qb , and you seem to not like the fact we are showing him some love for this.

It's coached and preached to do so, but we must be watching different games because i just don't see it happen that much.

Apparently not, according to the statistics??????

But if you just want to win the argument, I'll call it: You win, now we can all move on. Thank You.
