The Trump Shutdown

i was just busting..but Trump did promise us Mexico would pay right? I mean your anger should either be pointed at Trump or Mexico..not the folks who are not caving.

btw, I am fine with a wall.. I don't know if it will work or not...but we are not exactly talking any kind of real money here. I know folks who like Trump want us who don't to ignore his words and tweets, but unfortunately, that is not reality. And I am talking about the words he uses when talking about immigration, not silly Mexico thing

I'm not angry. I am fascinated. The Trump presidency is the most interesting I have seen in my lifetime. I can't wait to see if the Ds make the same mistakes the Rs made with Clinton (those that fail to learn from history...). I watch daily as he exposes the "deep state" (unelected bureaucracy) and MSM (for the partisan hacks that they are). I admire his strength and courage in the face of so many that only want him to fail - to the detriment of the United States. I know I would not have the resolve to stand up to all that he has on behalf of the American people.

As far as Mexico would pay... there are many ways to "pay" for something. A direct hand-off of money. Tariffs. Less purchasing of goods, etc., etc. Many people take the word "pay" as a literal "I'm handing over $25B in cash."  And, maybe that is the way Trump originally meant it. Myself? I think he meant "pay" in other ways and not as a direct cash payment, but reasonable people can certainly disagree with that take.

Cmon @Buffalo_Gal , that sounds suspiciously like "alternative facts" no. You blast the previous government(maybe rightly so) for being duplicitous and not being upfront with the American people, yet find an interpretive reason for every falsehood this guy utters. Please tell me the difference outside ya like ya guy and despise the other?

If this government gets shut down, it will rightly be called the Trump shutdown....it will be him pouting over losing a silly political battle, while his party controls all 3 branches mind you, and it really comes down to the words he used. If he had not been so boastful about Mexico paying, not using such offensive terms like breeding, the idea of a wall would not be toxic at all..we are talking $5B...even his $30B with the way these drunken sailors of both parties like to spend is nothing.

that would be like me walking away from a $1M deal cause someone wanted 31 day payment terms instead of 30.

btw heading to DC to see the fellas play..I enjoy the conversation and hope to continue..but offline prolly till late tonight!

Trump Shutdown.  Does he even know how shutdowns work?  What a Deplorable Snowflake.

What's the point if essential employees are still working through?  Services interruption to the public aren't happening.

Shutdowns are a joke and big waste of money.  I have been working with the Fed for almost 30 years and was never sent home.

If they want a real shutdown, send everybody home.

Shutdowns are for pencil-pushers, desk jockeys that can be sent home.  Funny thing is, they get sent home for a paid vacation.  After the last shutdown, they came back and got paid anyway.

So yes, I am hoping for a Trump shutdown that everybody goes home.  Let's see if it lasts more than 15 minutes.

Disco Donny needs to be a real man and nut up.  Shut the whole freaking machine down.  How can he attach his name to a shutdown, call it a "Trump Shutdown" when it's clearly such a wussy effort.

No pain, No gain.  What a sh *t stain of a name: Trump Shutdown.

Heck, I think we should be operating in “shutdown” mode all the time. A shutdown only effects non-essential activities, and if it’s not essential, it should be outside the purview of the federal government.

Yeah... But people still get paid!

Last shutdown, the Republican Congress still paid the non-essential activities back pay!

Go figure.

A "silly political battle"? If you consider the sovereignty of our nation (and that is what strong borders do - protects from "invasions") a silly battle, I'm afraid we will not come to any sort of an agreement on this issue.  I consider a non-porous border to be of paramount importance.  And the United States has needed a "wall" for eons. If it takes a Trump shutdown of the government, so be it. I will be cheering him on.

I am fairly certain you are being extreme to prove some sort of a point, and not to be duplicitous.  As you know, a full "shutdown" of the government cannot happen as we need the military,  courts, etc.  While non-essential government employees have been paid in the past (and will probably continue to do so as neither party has a spine), I wish the time was taken to comb through the "non-essentials" to see how many could be eliminated - and then do it!! But, as I said, neither party has a spine and they all want to get re-elected, so it will not happen. Which sucks.

The press put another Pulitzer-worthy effort this week into blowing the President Trump White House down. His chief of staff is leaving! His turncoat lawyer was sentenced! Mueller is looking into into the inauguration spending!

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy.

Trump is going to be frog-marched and perp-walked and impeached and Trump Tower will be razed and Ivanka will be pimped.

But then the reality set in. President Trump summoned Pelosi and Schumer to the White House, and President Trump shamed them in front of a national audience.

181211121922-02-trump-pelosi-schumer-121

Go ahead and shut down government, he said. I will build the wall anyway.

His actual words were priceless: "I'll tell you what, I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck. So, I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I'm not going to blame you for it."

Schumer could only hang his head.

Liberals see what has happened to them. There is no Russian collusion to impeach him on. Stormy Daniels won't bring him down. Bungling Bob Mueller increasingly is desperate, casting his net wider and wider in a desperate attempt to grab something -- anything -- that will bring President Trump down.

The media that is at Mueller's beck and call continues to show its willingness to walk over its grandmother to get Donald John Trump dis-elected. But it is to no avail.

Friday morning you had Michael Cohen being interviewed by George Stephanopoulos about Mueller's premise that paying off hookers somehow violates campaign laws and voids the 2016 election.

Stephanopoulos built his career by getting the press to overlook Bill Clinton's bimbo eruptions.

But this is not 1992. We are 26 years down the road and three broadcast networks and one cable outlet no longer control the news.

The Washington Post gamely flails away. "Trump's latest rage-tweets expose the depth of his own corruption!"

"After Trump's meltdown over his wall, Democrats cannot give any ground!"

"The campaign finance threat to Trump just got more severe!"

"7 quotes that show how blatant the Trump hush money coverup was!"

"Trump's claim that he didn't violate campaign finance law is weak — and dangerous!"

All that hyperventilating all the time is exhausting. Liberals keep getting their hopes up, and keep getting their hopes crushed.

The last time Nancy and Chuck met with The Donald at the White House, back in September 2017, they claimed he caved on the wall and was going to sign immigration reform.

This week, he made sure the negotiations were very public and very humiliating. Tails are tucked between legs because the Big Dog needs space.

Retiring Republican Senator Orrin Hatch told CNN, "I don't care, all I can say is he's doing a good job as president."

What?

Hatch said, "The Democrats will do anything to hurt this president. What happened before he was elected president is one thing, but since he’s been elected the economy’s done well, our country is moving ahead. We’re in better shape than when we were before he became president. And I think we ought to judge him on that basis."

Liberals know this.

TRUMP SPRANG THREE TRAPS ON PELOSI AND SCHUMER ON WEDNESDAY:

Never forget that Trump was the most successful producer of reality television in the history of the medium.  He understands drama and a story arc.  Chuck Schumer leading a Senate filibuster right before Christmas to stymie border protection is exactly the story Trump wants the nation’s TV-viewers to absorb.

Read the whole thing.

Difference between "may" and "can."

Yes it "can" happen, but it "may" not.

Just don't pay anyone.  It's happened in the past. Force the essentials to work "for the good of the country."

A few skipped paychecks will send the message, especially overseas.  Those Direct Deposits don't hit back Stateside, people will figure out who to blame.

I am not quite 100% sure of your position here. Is it that Trump should get 100% of want he wants..no questions asked..or he shuts down the government?

On any issue? No.

On this issue? Yes. It's worth the fight. It's why he got elected. To build a wall. Not to mention, everyone knows shutting down the government means nothing. My hope would be that Trump would at least not be such a monstrous douche as to kick vets out of national monuments because that's very, very petty and you need to be a huge douche to do something that stupid to make a point.

for you and @Buffalo_Gal , why is it THIS issue to you is worth the shutdown? Why not deficit reduction? Why not entitlement reform? Why not better outcomes for our veterans?

What is it specifically that makes the wall, not immigration reform..so important. Remember, Trump is only threatening the Trump shutdown over funding for a wall..not meaningful immigration reform

The wall, DACA, chain migration and the lottery are all connected. Trump has offered a DACA  fix for 1.8 million people when the left was asking for that fix for 700k. Amnesty was given to a ton of illegals way back in Reagan's time with the promise of securing the border. The same bs was attempted during 43's time with the Gang of Eight and the right said no f'n way are you gonna fool us again. The issue here is that the left doesn't want to solve the problem, they want the issue for political reasons. The wall would be a large feather in Trump's cap and the left just can't allow him to fulfill a promise.

That’s exactly right in terms of a large feather in Trumps cap..so in other words for silly political reasons @Buffalo_Gal

teue inmigration redorm and the walk have very little to do with each other.. Trump wants a win for a win sake and to say I told ya so,, Dems want to say no so he has a loss.

Neither believe the wall has any appreciable effect on the problem either way, especially @ $ 5B.

I would have have more respect if he was not using this as a political stunt and stuck to his guns and tied a fully funded wall and immigration reform to this silly posturing, but all he wants and cares about is the win.. as do the dems

The wall is about human trafficking (and smuggling in general) much more than it's about immigration reform. That's an argument the media won't let people make, because it requires understanding that people in DC against the wall have been profiting from keeping the border porous (profiting in terms of campaign support/donations, and protection from the establishment media).

A wall on the southern border would cut trafficking lanes down immensely. Why is the military on the border now? It's not to deter the caravan, it's to provide logistical support to ICE/BP/DHS as they work to shut down trafficking routes. But again, that won't be reported... yet if you talk to the people stationed there and look at the actual work being done, you'd find it to be the truth.

Trump won the election because of his call for building a wall. He wants the wall because it is an effective way to nearly eliminate illegal crossings. People on the left who have always been for a wall are now fighting it because they view wall funding as a win for Trump. I view it as a win for America. Trump has offered an immigration fix and the left has fought it because they don't want to lose the issue.

You must have some very fat fingers.

This is most likely true, and it is a great reason for tight border security.  However, the conversation was about Trump's use of illegal immigration and the impact that undocumented individuals have on our resources as THE reason for a wall.  He campaigned on that premise, not human trafficking.  He could, and should, make both arguments.
